Chapter – 10– Sri Ramacharitha Manas –
Ayodhya Kanda– Rama listen to Sage Vashishta about the coronation ceremony and
feels unfair to his brothers
Sage Vashishta felt immensely happy
listening to the pleasing words of Lord of Raghu, he praised Rama and spoke “Oh!
Rama, you are the ornament of the Raghu clan, the illustrious clan of wise and
intellectuals.” Sage continued to praise the virtues, amiability, kindness,
compassion, and noble disposition of Rama; at a certain point his voice broke
out of a sudden rush of emotions “Oh! Rama, King Dhasharatha made a decision to perform
your coronation ceremony, so that you would achieve the regime of the country.
Oh! Son, you should strictly observe austerities, so that the deities get
highly pleased and provide an abundance of auspiciousness and welfare to you
and your Kingdom and its people.” Sage
Vashishta returned to the palace to meet the King, while Rama felt uneasy and murmured “My
beloved brothers Bharatha, Lakshman, and Shathrughna was born and raised
together, we have dined and slept together, we have performed childhood amusements,
and some of the sixteen ceremonies prescribed in the Veda such as ear piercing,
Mundan/tonsuring, sacred thread ceremony, and wedding ceremonies together, I
feel unfair to perform the coronation ceremony all alone without my beloved
brothers, as I was born as heir to the throne.” May the kindness, truthfulness,
and compassion of the Lord Sri Ramachandra drive away the deceitfulness in his
devotees.
