Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Rama continues to describe the characteristics of an asectic - Phalashruthi:

Chapter – 45– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda–Rama continues to describe the characteristics of an ascetic - Phalashruthi:

Rama continues to describe the characteristics of an ascetics to Maharishi Narada “Oh! Mahathma, 1) the ascetics are the abode of virtues, moralities, disciplines, truthfulness, free from the Dhvandhabhava/dualities of sorrow and happiness, grief and joy, pain and pleasure, gain and loss, good and evil, etc. These ascetics are my ardent devotees, undertake Shamadhamadhi, austerities, Japa and Thapa, etc. lack body consciousness, abandon their body, worldly matters, attachment to possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives as Thrina/grass. 2) They would love to hear the praise of others, but gets bashful if anyone praises their virtues 3) They are serene and blissful, always follow righteousness 4) They are innocent, kind, and compassionate by nature 5) They undertake strict austerities, Japa, Thapa to achieve complete control over senses 6) They are devoted at the lotus feet of preceptors/Guru, Govind, and Bipra/Brahmins.  7) They are forgiving nature, extremely kind and compassionate, blissful at all circumstances, and a true devotee of mine. Oh! Maharishi 8) These ascetics are the repository of virtues, modesty, deep knowledge in Veda, Shastra and Purana, and Paramarththa Thaththva. 9) They are free from the impurities of mind such as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, do not set their foot in immoral deed not even by mistake. 10) They are free from the interest in worldly matters, singing and listening to my glorious myth, and perform charities without expecting any personal gain. Oh! Maharishi, the virtues of ascetics are endless, which cannot be eulogized even by Goddess Sarada or Vedas.”

Maharishi Narada fallen at the lotus feet of the Lord and clasped his feet, listening to the conclusion of his speech ‘even Goddess Sarada and Veda are incompetent to praise the splendor of ascetics’.  In this way, the most compassionate Lord described the virtues of his ardent devotees with his own lips. Maharishi Narada repeatedly prostrated at the lotus feet of Lord Raghu and returned to Bhramaloka. Sage Tulsidas says ‘The fortunate are the ones who take complete shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Rama.”

Whoever sings or listens to the glorious legend of the enmity of Ravana, would be rewarded with steadfast devotion at the lotus feet of Rama, without undertaking the Bairagya/dispassion, Japa, Thapa, austerities, etc. The lust for physical pleasure with the woman brings the fate of butterfly died in the burning flame, the women represent the blazing fire and the lust for women brings the fate of moth died in the flame. Oh! Mortals, abandon the lust, desire, and pride, and meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Rama describes the characteristics of an ascetic

Chapter – 44– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Rama describes the characteristics of an ascetic

Rama spoke “Oh! Maharishi, I have stopped you getting married because the yearning for woman are the root causes of all the evils, always remember that, they are the source of torment and grief.” Maharishi Narada’s eyes were overflown with tears while listening to the pleasing words of Lord Raghu, experienced a sudden rush of thrill ran through his body, thought “Is there any Master /Lord, compassionate and kind as Lord Rama to his sincere devotees? Whoever refuses to worship Lord Rama gets drenched to the worldly matters, and take several births like the snake shed its skin, they are unfortunate, ignorant, lack wisdom, miserable and dull-witted.” Maharishi Narada spoke reverentially “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Ramachandra, Oh! Bigyanabisarada/learned one, Oh! Raghuvira, kindly describe the characteristics of a noble soul, Mahathma, saints who are well versed in scriptures? Oh! Bhavabanjjana/who dispel the sufferings of worldly existence and repeated births, I would like to hear from you.” Rama spoke “Oh! Mune, I shall describe the characteristics of a saint/ascetic. 1) The saints are those who have won over the six impurities such as lust, greed, desire, anger, jealousy, and pride, 2) They are sinless and dispassionate 3) They are steadfast, have no interest in worldly matters or material possession 4) They are free from Dhvandhabhava/dualities, sorrows and happiness, grief and joy, pain and pleasure, gain and loss, etc.5) The learned remain in supreme bliss always 6) They are strictly disciplined, eat less, 7) They are truthful, desireless, and repository of virtues and supreme knowledge  8) They are firm minded, inspirational, free from impurities of the mind, and a strict follower of Dharmic rites.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The fierce form of delusion/ignorance/Maya is the lust for a woman

Chapter – 43– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The fierce form of delusion/ignorance/Maya is the lust for a woman

Rama speaks “Oh! Maharishi, Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Madha, Moha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara are the powerful warriors of ignorance, but the fierce some amongst all is the Maya, that is lust for a woman. Oh! Mune, the Sages, Rishis, scriptures, and Veda describe the woman as the vernal season in the forest of ignorance. It gets shrunken in the hot season, like the austerities, Shama, Dhama, Sathyam, Shaucham, Astheyam, Bhramacharya, Arjjavam, Ahimsa, Dhanam, Dhaya, austerities, Japa and Thapa, etc. causes the vernal season gets dried up. The rainy season causes to flourishes the vernal seasons, the jealousy, pride, ego, anger, lust, desire, arrogance enhances the growth of vernal season like the lust for woman, the desires are like the bed of lilies, bed of lotuses, which is the source of sensual pleasures like the lust for a woman. The overgrowth of the Yavasa plant resembles the Ahamkara/ego, pride, as soon as the woman like winter appears in life, it causes to accumulate the owls like sins, in the pleasure of woman that resembles darkness of the night. Oh! Mune, the reasoning ability, virtues, moralities, disciplines, truthfulness are the fishes, that easily get hooked before the lust for a woman.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – whoever worships Lord Rama with intense devotion and faith, he would take care of them, as a mother guards her child against all the evils

Chapter – 42– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– whoever worships Lord Rama with intense devotion and faith, he would take care of them, as a mother guards her child against all the evils

Maharishi Narada speaks “May the sacred syllable “Ra Ma” shine as the autumn moon, and the rest of the syllable as the stars in the cloudless sky, in the hearts of your devotees that resemble full moon of devotion!” Rama uttered ‘So be it!/Yevamasthu!” Maharishi Narada was highly pleased and prostrated before Rama. Maharishi Narada continued to speak watching the pleasing nature of the Lord “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Rama, you are Mayapathi, you are the consort of unconquerable Maya, that persuaded me. Oh! Lord of Raghu, as a result of the influence of your powerful Maya, my heart desired to get married, you did not let it happen for my goodness.” Rama spoke “Oh! Mahathma, whoever worships me with intense devotion and faith, I would take care of them, as a mother guards her child against all the evils. If the infant rushes towards fire or snake, getting attracted to it, the mother won’t let it hurt the child. When the child grows into an adult the intensity of anxiousness about the safety of the child gets reduced, the wise and learned are my grown-up children, while the humble devotees are my infants. Oh! Mahathma, the intelligent, learned, scholars believe in their strength, but an ardent devotee entirely depends on me, both of them are liable to face the evilness of lust and anger. Hence, the intelligent ones worship me and surrender to me, even after achieving the supreme knowledge of Paramarththa.”

Chapter – 41– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Maharishi Narada seeks boon on the sacred syllable ‘Ra Ma’ as the most propitious among the infinite names of the Lord

Maharishi Narada eulogized Prabhu Sri Rama, realized that Lord Raghu is pleased, began to speak with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, Lord of Raghu's, you are benevolent, you are the provider of several boons to your worshiper, Oh! Prabho, kindly provide a boon, although you know about my desire, you are that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva.” Rama spoke amiably “Oh! Maharishi, you know my disposition, do I hide anything from my devotees, Oh! Maharishi, kindly do not ask the boon which is dear to my heart, you know very well which is dearer to my heart, I do not hold on to anything from my devotees, you do not give up belief in me.” Maharishi Narada spoke cheerfully “Oh! Prabho, I was presuming to ask a specific boon, even though you have infinite sacred names, let the auspicious name ‘Ra Ma’ surpass it all in destroying hosts of sins like the hunter kills the flock of birds.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Maharishi Narada visits Lord Rama in Pampa Lake

Chapter – 40– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Maharishi Narada visits Lord Rama in Pampa Lake

The trees were loaded with flowers and fruits, hence its branches were hung down touching the ground like the noble souls grow humble and modest even after achieving huge fortune in the form of Paramarththa Thaththva. Rama took a bath in the holy river Pampa, and got freshened up, he took a seat under the shade of a huge tree with his brother Lakshman. The deities arrived on the site and eulogized the matchless glories of Rama and returned to their respective abodes. The compassionate Lord gave lectures on various subjects of Dharma, Arththa, Kama, and Moksha, to Lakshman. Sage Narada saw Lord Rama soaked in the grief of separation from his beloved consort Devi Sita, his heart was perturbed and thought, “all that happened to Lord Raghu because of my curse, that compassionate Lord has to undergo various hardships in the woods, I should visit that Lord and I may not get an opportunity like this again.” Thus, Maharishi Narada arrived in the Pampa Lake, holding Veena in one hand, singing in praise of Lord Hari, he prostrated before Lord Rama was raised from the ground and remained in the embrace of Rama for a long time. Lord Rama enquired the welfare of the Sage, and both of them were seated together, while Lakshman prostrated before the Sage.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The magnificence of Pampa Lake

Chapter – 39– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The magnificence of Pampa Lake

Lord Mahadeva speaks “Oh! Devi, The bottomless crystal-clear water in Pampa Lake is packed with lotus flowers, is the shelter home for all the aquatic animals like the noble souls who live in utmost serenity, even the attributeless Bhramam gets lured with its beauty. The lake was full of different colors of fully bloomed lotus flowers surrounded by the buzzing of honey bees, the Swans beautifully floating on the water with soft sounds, the beauty of Chakravaha and herons were beyond description, the loveliness of Pampa Lake and its surrounding places was beyond description. The sounds of different species of birds invite the attention of passersby, there were several hermitages situated on the riverside of Pampa, surrounded by the dense wood of Champaka, Bakula, Kadamba, Thamala, Patala, Panasa, Palasha, mango, and varieties of trees bearing fruits and flowers, there was cool breeze carrying rich fragrance all the time, the sweet sounds of Cuckoos were taken away all the attentions of the hermits who were immersed meditation.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The supreme Bhramam incarnated as Rama exposed the pitiable state of humans drenched in the impurities of the mind, and spoke highly on the dispassionate nature of the noble souls who are the repository of virtues

Chapter – 38– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda–The supreme Bhramam incarnated as Rama exposed the pitiable state of humans drenched in the impurities of the mind, and spoke highly on the dispassionate nature of the noble souls who are the repository of virtues

Rama spoke sadly “Oh! Brother, there are three most powerful evils are lust, greed, and anger, it would defeat even the hermits who are repositories of wisdom. The Sages affirms that the subservient of greed is desire and deceitfulness, lust is nothing but sensual pleasure, and the anger results in sword-like harsh speech.” Lord Mahadeva speaks “Oh! Uma, Lord Rama is beyond Triguna,/Sathvik, Rajasik, and Thamasik, he is the Lord of animate and inanimate things in the Universe, he is the Sacchidhanandaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva which is the source of the functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa, Prana, Ahamkara, Karma, and Gnanendhriyas, etc. Rama exposed the pitiable state of humans drenched in the impurities of the mind, and spoke highly on the dispassionate nature of the noble souls who are the repository of virtues. Oh! Devi, the impurities of mind such as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Madha, Moha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, etc. can be eliminated only with the grace of the Supreme Lord Rama. Whoever achieves the grace of that supreme Lord of the Universe, never get drenched in illusion/Maya, Oh! Devi Uma, I shall describe my own experience, Rama is the absolute truth/Purusha, the Universe is his Maya/delusion. Rama along with Lakshman proceeded to the beautiful land where the deep lake Pampa is situated, it has divine look, brimming with waters like the hearts of the Sages and Rishis overflown with love and devotion, it has beautiful stairs to get into the water from all the four sides. It was the place packed with wild animals which quietly approach the watercourse for quenching thirst, like the beggars surrounded by the house of wealthy.”

Chapter – 37– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Kamadeva take good control over women hence they are the dearest companion of him

Lord Rama continues lamenting over the separation from Devi Sita “Lord Manmatha did not stop torturing me even after knowing that I am suffering from the pain of separation from my beloved consort, the swarm of honey bees, herds of elephants, and deer, the beautiful spring season, and the cool breeze carrying the rich fragrance of flowers, did not stop meddling with me. Lord Kamadeva chasing me with his warriors, knowing that I am with my brother Lakshman, grieving over the separation from my beloved consort. The beautiful creepers are coiled in the huge tree as if taking shelter in it and give out a marvelous appearance. The plantain and palm trees standing straight out watching the vast sky are fascinating sight, trees are loaded with beautiful alluring flowers or rich fragrance, like the warriors of Kamadeva are all prepared for the battle against me, the chirping of birds of various species, trumpeting of elephants, the sounds of cuckoos, Swan, peacock, Chakora, herons, mules, camels, pigeons, swans, quails, etc. represents the soldiers of Kamadeva. The mountains are the chariots of the Manmatha, the sounds of the animals, trumpets of elephants are his kettledrums, the cool breeze are his ministers, the chirping of birds are the Vandhigana/singing in praise of him, these give out the appearance of Chathurangasena/four-fold army of Manmatha. Oh! Lakshman, the Jeeva who is won over the cupid of Manmatha are praised highly, the Jeeva who remain calm at the sight of the cupid arrows are men with strict vows and austerities, the cupid arrows take full control on women, hence the women are his strongest companion.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The interest in worldly matters and material things hurls the Jeeva into the cycles of repeated births – Rama describes his pain of separation to Lakshman

Chapter – 36– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The interest in worldly matters and material things hurls the Jeeva into the cycles of repeated births– Rama describes his pain of separation to Lakshman

Sabari described her story to Lord Rama, she gazed at the marvelous form of Lord Raghu, contemplating upon the lotus feet of Prabhu, left her mortal coil with the power of Yoga, and attained the supreme abode which is the safest asylum for the Jeeva. Sage Tulsidas says, “Oh! Humans, abandon your interest in worldly matters, attachment to material things of impermanent nature, such as possession, fame, wealth, richness, children, wife, companion and relatives, interest in infinite Nama, Roopa, Rasa, Sparsha and Gandha, which can cause continuous sufferings of grief and sorrows, and ultimately hurl into the wheel of repeated births, hence surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra and get rid of impurities of the mind. The compassionate Lord Rama provided liberation to Sabari who was born in the lowly clan, does not conduct the practice of Thapa and austerities, achieved the supreme abode with her pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama. My foolish mind drenched in the material matters of infinite Nama, Roopa, Rasa, Gandha, and Sparsha, thereby accumulated sins in several births, forgetting the ocean of mercy Lord Sri Ramachandra.”

Rama left the hermitage of Shabari, the two brothers resemble lions among men, possessed immense valor and courage wandered through the forest, Lord Rama lamented over the separation from his beloved consort Devi Sita like an ordinary human, and described his pain to Lakshman “Oh! Lakshman, see the beauty of the forest, whose heart does not get stirred at the sight of the loveliness of it? The swarm of honey bees, the herds of deer are enjoying their pleasurable time with their companions. The male deer that got scared of my sight might have been pacified by its female companion, saying that I have come in search of the golden deer. The elephants are walking in herds as if they are teaching me a lesson not to leave a beloved companion at any cost, the greatest lesson that a man should not leave his wife under any circumstances. There are several scriptures to enlighten the human with an abundance of knowledge, a King should not depend on a woman, however she served him in her all life, can cherish in heart, but he can’t thoroughly understand a woman. Oh! Brother, the spring in the wood is so attractive, yet it is painful for me without my beloved consort.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Sabari advises Rama to proceed to Pampa Lake

Chapter – 35– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Sabari advises Rama to proceed to Pampa Lake

Lord Rama speaks “Oh! Noble soul, the third form of devotion is selfless service at the lotus feet of one’s own preceptor, and the devotees of the Lord. The fourth form of devotion is singing in praise of the Lord, and worship of the Lord without expecting a personal gain. The fifth form of devotion is highly eulogized by Veda, is the constant meditation and contemplation, pronouncing my name ‘Rama’, the sixth form of devotion is undertaking austerities to achieve self-control, getting rid of impurities of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara and Mamakara, which is prescribed for the ascetics, Rishis and Sages. The seventh form of devotion is the superior one, perceiving the all-pervasive nature of mine, Oneness-in-all, and whoever practices this type of devotion is beloved to me, they perceive me in all animate and inanimate things in the Universe. The eighth form of devotion is the ‘contentment’, absence of impurities, never find fault in others. The ninth form of devotion is ‘Truthfulness’, practicing straightforwardness in all dealings, with the intense faith and devotion in me. Oh! Virtuous lady, whoever practices the nine types of devotion, whether it is human or animals, or any other creatures, they are dear to me always. Oh! Devi, you have grown far beyond the nine types of devotion, I am highly pleased with your devotion, which is difficult to achieve for Yogis and Rishis who undertake extreme penance and austerities, you have achieved the fruitfulness of your devotion effortlessly, you have achieved the incomparable fruit of achievement by witnessing me. Oh! Bhamini, do you know anything about Devi Janaki? If you came to know about her, kindly tell me.” Sabari replied fervently “Oh! Prabho kindly proceeds to Pampa Lake, and meets Sugreevah, he will assist you to find Devi Janaki. Oh! Lord of Raghu, you are the knower of all, you are omniscient, yet you are asking me?” Shabari repeatedly prostrated at the lotus feet of Rama, and narrated all that she was heard from Sage Mathanga, and eagerly waited all her life to meet her beloved Lord Rama.

Chapter – 34– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Rama describes Navadhabhakthi/nine types of devotion to Sabari

Sabari brought baskets full of succulent fruits and offered to Rama was partaken graciously, repeatedly praising the taste of it. She stood before Rama with palm folded, and gazed at the wonderful appearance of Rama, her love and devotion for Rama grown intensely “Oh! Prabho, how can I praise your virtues and loveliness? I am a dull-woman born in the lowly clan, Oh! Prabho, you are the destroyer of the sins of the Jeeva, I am an ignorant Jeeva.” Rama replied affectionately “Oh! Bhamini, Oh! Virtuous one, I do not look for the rank or class of the Jeeva, I always look for pure love and devotion only. Oh! Noble soul, the Jeeva born in a higher clan, possess immense wealth and material comforts, observe Dharmic rites, has achieved deep knowledge in Veda Shastra Purana, and good physical strength, even after all these if he has no love or devotion at my lotus feet that would be considered as a rainless cloud. Oh! Saintly lady, I shall describe the nine types of devotion to you, listen to them carefully. The first in order is the association with the Santh, Mahathma, and noble souls, which would remove the impurities of mind such as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathscharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and inspires the Jeeva to take up austerities, Shamadhamadhis, and it keeps away from the interest in worldly matters and attachment to wealth, possession, fame, richness, children, wife, companion, and relatives, etc. The second one is listening to the glorious myths from the scriptures would enhance the pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of me.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The significance of ‘Bhramins’ considered as deities on the Earth/Boodevatha – Rama’s arrival at the hermitage of Sabari

Chapter – 33– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The significance of ‘Bhramins’ considered as deities on the Earth/Boodevatha– Rama’s arrival at the hermitage of Sabari

Lord Rama spoke “Oh! Gandharva, whoever serves the Bhramins considered as Lord on the Earth, with the mind, deed, and words would win over the trinities Lord Bhrama, Vishnu, and Lord Shiva. Oh! Gandharva, the Rishis, and Sages highly speak even if the Bhramana behave impolitely, and unpleasingly he is worthy to adore, hence every single Bhramin is worthy of adoration, even though he lacks modesty and virtues. Likewise, a Sudra does not worthy of adoration, even if he has possessed virtues and rich knowledge.” Rama was pleased with the devotion of Kabandha, soon the demon regained the original form of Gandharva, he bowed at the lotus feet of Rama, and ascended to heaven. Thus, the compassionate Lord Rama liberated the curse on Gandharva and proceeded to the hermitage of Sabari. As soon as Sabari noticed the arrival of the Lord Sri Ramachandra, she remembered the promise of her preceptor Sage Mathanga, shrieked in delight “Oh! Sarasija Lochana/lotus-eyed, Oh! Bahuvishala/powerful arms, Oh! Jatamakutadhari/adorned in matted hair locks, Oh! Banamaladhari/adorned in Vanamala, Oh! Shyamagauravarnna/Rama and Lakshman who has the complexion of dark clouds and golden complexion respectively.” Sabari fell at the lotus feet of Rama and clasped his feet. She was in a state of ecstasy, she could not utter a word that stuck in her throat, she repeatedly prostrated at the lotus feet of Rama. Sabari searched for water in her hermitage, and washed the feet of Rama and Lakshman, and offered them a seat.

Chapter – 32– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Rama performs the final rites of Jatayu - Kabandha Moksha

The King of Birds, Jatayu achieved intense devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari as a boon and proceed to the abode of Lord Hari. Rama performed the final rites of Jatayu, thus the compassionate Lord Rama proved his impartial nature to his devotees, ultimately Jatayu who was born in the lowly clan of vultures, carnivores by nature attained Paramamgathi which is difficult to achieve even for the Yogis. Lord Mahadeva speaks to Devi Uma “Oh! Devi, listen to me carefully, the unfortunate Jeeva move afar from the pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and get attached to the material matters of worldly existence such as wealth, richness, money, fame, family, children, wife, relatives and companions, etc…and the infinite Nama, Rasa, Roopa, Gandha, and Sparsha. The two brothers proceeded to the dense forest in search of Devi Sita, conducted a demanding exploration, on their way they met the demon Kabandha who got killed at the hands of Rama, while leaving the mortal coil Kabandha explained the curse of Sage Durvassa, and praised Lord Rama for showering mercy upon him. The compassionate Lord Rama pacified “Oh! Kabandha, Oh! Gandharva, I can’t bear the merciless act on Bhramins.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Jatayu eulogizes the splendor of Lord Rama

Chapter – 31 (2)– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Jatayu eulogizes the splendor of Lord Rama

Rama spoke in tears “Oh! Noble soul, do not let my father know about the abduction of Devi Seetha by the ten-headed Ravan, If I was not that Paramathma, the whole clan of Ravana would have perished by now.” Soon Jayatu left his mortal coil and assumed a divine form of Lord Sri Hari, attired in magnificent clothes, adorned in marvelous jewels and Vanamala, four arms, beautiful limbs of dark cloud complexioned, his eyes were overflowing with tears and eulogized Rama.

“ Hail Rama!  Hail Rama who is Nirguna and Sagunaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam ! Oh! Prabho, you are absolute consciousness, free from impurities, unblemished, pure, has neither birth nor death, you are Mayapathi who is inseparable from Maya, but free from delusion. You are the essence of Triguna/Sathvik, Rajasik, and Thamasik, Oh! Prabho, your ferocious bow, and arrows are capable to tore off the dreadful demon Ravana into pieces, I shall repeatedly prostrate before the supreme Lord Rama who is the ornament of the Raghu clan, protector of the Earth and noble souls, he has an attractive dark cloud complexion, he has beautiful lustrous face resemble the autumn moon, he has lovely eyes resemble the red lotus flower petals, he has long powerful arms, he is the source of liberation from the repeated births. Oh! Prabho, you are self-restraint, unfathomable, you are that supreme Bhramam which has no dualities/Dhvandhabhava, grief, and agony, happiness, and sorrow, gain, and loss, good and evil, etc. you are eternal, you are not perceivable, you are perceivable through the austerities, Shamadhamadhi, pure love and devotion, meditation and contemplation, etc. you are the dispeller of darkness of ignorance, dualities of birth and death, pleasure and pain, etc. Oh! Prabho, you are the protector of the Universe, you are the preserver of the Earth, you are the delight of noble souls, ascetics, Rishis, and Sages, who constantly pronounce your sacred name ‘Rama’. I shall worship Lord Sri Ramachandra who is dispassionate and removes the impurities of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara of the Jeeva. The Veda highly eulogizes the glories of that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam as blameless, pure, dispassionate, free from impurities, which is attainable after the several austerities and extreme penance by the Rishis and Sages, undertaking the path of Bhakti, Gnana, and Vairagya. Oh! Prabho, you are an ocean of mercy, the supreme bliss personified on the Earth, entices all the animate and inanimate things. He represents a honey bee that takes pleasure in the lotus-like heart of devotees, he has great effulgence, excels in the loveliness of several thousands of Kamadeva. Oh! Prabho, you are perceivable for the noble souls, and imperceivable for the wicked, you are impartial, the Yogis perceive your eternal presence with their austerities and penance, Oh! Rama, Oh! Lakshmipathi, have you ever been ignored the cries of your devotees? May that Supreme Lord Rama whose remembrance would eradicate the repeated births reside in my heart permanently.”

Chapter – 31 (1)– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– King of birds Jatayu prepares to leave mortal coil on the lap of Rama

Rama took Jatayu who was badly wounded, lost wings, lying helpless on his lap, and caressed his body with his lotus-like hands. As soon as Jatayu witnessed the compassionate Lord, all his pain were disappeared. Jatayu regained consciousness and spoke in grief “Oh! Prabho, you are the destroyer of fear and anxiousness of worldly existence, listen to me carefully, it was the wicked Ravana the ten-headed demon that put me into this misery and abducted Devi Janaki. He took her in his celestial vehicle and moved to the south, while Devi Sita was shrieking for help. I have held my breath to convey this message to you, Oh! Prabho, Kripasagara, I am leaving my Prana.” Rama pleaded “Oh! Dear, hold on for a while” Jatayu smiled at Lord and spoke “Oh! Prabho, Do I need to hold on my Prana after witnessing the glorious form of that supreme Lord Sri Hari, who is beyond perception and description, appeared before me, even the Vedas are incompetent to eulogize your glories, affirms as ‘Na: Ithi Na;Ithi’, the pious and noble souls utter your very name ‘Rama’ while departing this world is present before me, what else I need to make my life fruitful? should I hold on to my Prana any longer?” Lord of Raghu replied in tears “Oh! Dear father, you have attained an enviable state with your noble deeds, nothing is impossible for the Jeeva who has a good heart and desire for the welfare of all. Oh! Dear father, you can leave this mortal coil, and proceed to my supreme abode. What shall I give you as a boon, when you have already fulfilled all your desires?”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Rama returns from the wood and found Devi Sita has gone missing

Chapter – 30– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda–Rama returns from the wood and found Devi Sita has gone missing

Ravana made all efforts to persuade Devi Sita was failed miserably, finally, he kept her under the guardian of the dreadful female demons on the Ashoka Vatika. Devi Sita immersed in contemplation and meditation upon Lord Sri Hari whose charming appearance running after the golden deer, constantly chanting the sacred name ‘Rama’, she spends her life in extreme grief of pain of separation from her beloved Lord. Lord Rama noticed Lakshman approaching the wood, he was shocked and enquired worriedly “Oh! Lakshman, you have left Devi Sita alone in the hermitage, you did not follow my instruction, there are several demons are wandering in disguise all over the wood, I have started to feel that Devi Sita is not safe in the hermitage.” Lakshman fallen at the feet of Lord Raghu and shed tears and spoke with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, it was not my fault, I had to leave Devi Sita all alone in the hermitage.” Lord Rama accompanied by his brother Lakshman arrived at the hermitage located on the riverbank of Godavari. As soon as he reached the hermitage, he found the place is empty, he felt perturbed, could not control his grief, spoke in tears “Alas! Devi Janaki, the beloved daughter of King Janaka, who symbolizes beauty, virtues, amiability, modesty, and devotion has gone missing.” Rama became inconsolable, Lakshman comforted him many ways, Rama could not control the grief and pain of separation from Devi Sita, he wandered all over the forest enquiring the creepers, trees, and birds “Oh! Birds and deer, Oh! Buzzing honey bees, have you seen the beautiful-eyed/Mriganayani Devi Sita? Oh! Lakshman, the animals, birds, creepers, and the entire forest are gloomy in the absence of Devi Sita, due to their love for my beloved consort, in the meantime the Bilva fruit and banana rejoicing at heart, as if there is no one to excel their beauty. Oh! Devi, where are you? Why don’t you appear before me?” in this way, Lord of Raghu anxiously conducted a search for his beloved consort all over the woods, lamenting like an ordinary Jeeva at the pain of separation. The Saguna and Nirgunaswaroopa Paramathma Param Bhramam, have no birth or death, are changeless, free from afflictions, pure, unblemished, personified as Rama who is the essence of bliss, wept bitterly like any other human beings. Further, Rama and Lakshman met the King of birds Jatayu lying on the ground, miserably wounded contemplating upon Rama.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The abduction of Devi Sita – Jatayu’s fury

Chapter – 29– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The abduction of Devi Sita Jatayu’s

fury

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, Devi Sita was seized in hand and drawn to the flower chariot by Ravana and drove off at a great speed, he could hardly manage the vehicle due to fear.” Devi Vaidhehi cried out in extreme agony “Oh! Lord of Raghu, Oh! Aarathiharana/dispeller of grief, Oh! Raghunayaka/Lord of Raghu, Oh! Jagadhekaveera/mighty Lord, Oh! The delight of Raghu’s clan, what was my fault you have abandoned me and forgot to show mercy on me? Oh! Lakshman, I have reaped the fruit of my anger, you are blameless as always. Oh! Prabho, you are the ocean of mercy, my beloved Lord is away, who will protect my Lord from the troubles? Oh! Prabho, in your absence the sanctified oblation for fire sacrifice is getting impure by the touch of a donkey.” The heart-breaking cries of Devi Janaki made the animate and inanimate things in the world doomed to utter desolation, suddenly the King of birds Jatayu heard the pitiful cries of a woman, and soon he recognized that it was the cries of the beloved consort of Lord Rama. Jatayu understood the situation, the dreadful demon King Ravana played mischief to the Lord of Raghu, at once Jatayu made up his mind “Oh! Devi Sita, do not get scared, I will kill the demon and protect you.” Soon he took a long flight, darted off like an arrow against the celestial vehicle of Ravana, like the lightning on the mountain “Oh! Wicked, why are you rushing? You do not know my strength.” He considered the King of birds as his death, Garuda spoke “is that mount Mainaka or King of birds powerful, Lord Vishnu knows it all.” Ravana recognized his opponent and uttered in anger “Oh! Is that elderly Jatayu, waiting to get killed by my hands.” Jatayu could not stop his fury, voraciously approached him and shrieked “Oh! Wicked Ravana, leave Devi Janaki alone and return home safely, otherwise, all your arms and heads will  get burned in the terrible flame like the fury of Lord Raghu, not only that your entire clan would get burnt into ashes in his blazing anger.” Ravana did not answer to Jatayu who turned wild, tore off his body with his sharp nails and beak, Ravana lost control of the vehicle, his body was badly wounded, he was pulled out of the chariot, keeping Devi Sita at safe distance, the fight between them continued for a half an hour, Ravana got annoyed took his powerful sword and cut off the wings of Jatayu. Soon wingless Jatayu has fallen on the ground with a large thud, contemplating upon Lord Rama. Ravana drove off his vehicle after safely placing Devi Sita in his chariot. Devi Sita was frightened like the dove caught on the net of the hunter, she wept bitterly. Devi Sita noticed a large number of monkeys hovering over the mountain, she dropped some pieces of her clothes uttering the name of Lord Hari. In this way, Devi Sita was discreetly abducted by the demon King and lodged on the Ashoka Vatika in the city of Lanka.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The moment a person attempts to commit an unpleasant deed, his courage and good sense will disappear

Chapter – 28– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The moment a person attempts to commit an unpleasant deed, his courage and good sense will disappear

The deities showered flowers on Rama and eulogized his mercy “Lord of Raghu is Dheenabandhu, benevolent to his ardent devotees as well to his enemies. The demon Mareecha who shot dead with the arrows of Prabhu Sri Ramachandra attained liberation from worldly existence.” While Rama began to return to the hermitage, Devi Sita heard a loud cry of Rama calling for Lakshman, she was horrified and ordered Lakshman “Go quickly, your brother is in trouble.” Lakshman spoke calmly “Oh! Mother, the whole creation and destruction of the Universe takes place at the will of the Lord, mere movements of his brows create and destroys the animate and inanimate in the Universe, how could he get into trouble?” Later the bitter words heard from Devi Sita made him rush to the place where Rama called for help, leaving Devi Sita behind, in the protection of the deities of ten quarters. It was Lord Hari’s will Lakshman was forced to leave Devi Sita all alone, in the meantime, the ten-headed Ravana waiting for his opportunity to abduct Devi Sita like the Rahu causes affliction to the moon. Ravana who causes terror among the deities and demons, whose name ceases them to sleep or eat during night and day, disguised as a Jogi/Yogi/Thapasvi and approached Devi Sita looking around like a thief. Sage Kakabusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, the moment a person attempts for the vile and deceitful act, his good sense and courage will leave him. Ravana described various attractive stories to Devi Sita, and his knowledge of political wisdom finally made an attempt to threaten her to love him. Devi Sita retorted “Oh! Holy man, you are talking like a villain.” Ravana quickly assumed his real form and introduced her, Devi Sita was terrified, she managed to gather some courage and shrieked “Oh! King of demons, stay away from me, my Lord will be here at any moment, you have invited your own destruction by falling for me like the hare desired to get married to the lioness.” Ravana could not control his anger listening to the sharp words of Devi Sita, though he wanted to adore the lotus feet of Jagamba Paramba Bhagavathi Devi Sita”.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Mareecha attains liberation at the lotus feet of Rama

Chapter – 27– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Mareecha attains liberation at the lotus feet of Rama

Mareecha immersed in various thoughts,” my eyes would achieve the fruitfulness if I behold the marvelous appearance of my beloved Lord Rama along with Devi Sita and his younger brother Lakshman. The compassionate Lord Hari is the ocean of bliss, whose wrathful arrows provide the liberation to me from repeated births, he is the Lord of distressed Jeeva, he is Sukhasagara, and Kripanidhi, I shall achieve the liberation with the Ramabana. I shall persuade my beloved Lord wielded in powerful bow and arrow to run after me so that I can behold the beauty of him, no one is fortunate as me.” Ravana and Mareecha arrived in the vicinity of Rama’s hermitage, soon Mareecha assumed the form of a golden deer which is beyond description, it has golden limbs with diamonds spot on the body. Devi Sita caught the attention of the deer, exclaimed in joy “Oh! Lord Raghu, this deer has exceptionally beautiful limbs, Oh! Prabho, I would like to have it, kindly get it for me. You are true to your word, kindly get that beautiful golden deer for me.” Lord Rama who is the knower of all, understood the foul play of the demon Mareecha disguised as golden deer, rose from the seat with a great delight to accomplish the task of the deities. He gazed at the animal, wielded on his bow and arrow holding in one hand, aimed at the beautiful animal.  Lord Rama cautioned Lakshman “Oh! Thatha, there are several demons roaming in the woods, therefore take good care of Devi Sita, with all your valor and wisdom.” The deer took a flight watching the bow and arrow of Lord and disappeared into the woods, Rama chased the deer all the way into the woods. It’s a strange phenomenon, Lord Rama who is absolute Bhramam which is described as Na: Ithi Na; Ithi, by the Vedas, and whose marvelous appearance is unable to seize in the heart like Manasarovar of Lord Shambhu with the intense meditation and contemplation, running in pursuit of a golden deer. Thus, Rama continued to chase the deer so long, that was skillfully getting closer and the very next moment taking a long flight into the woods disappearing from his sight. In this way, the deer took Rama to a far-off place from the hermitage, in a moment Rama took a pause from the chase and aimed his powerful arrows on the deer, that hit the object and the deer fell down on the ground with a fearful cry. It shrieked in pain, called out for Lakshman, meditating at the lotus feet of Lord Rama, while leaving the mortal coil, the deer assumed its real form as Mareecha and contemplated upon the marvelous form of Lord Rama. The compassionate Lord who is the knower of all could perceive the devotion and love of Mareecha, provided him the superior state, which cannot be gained for the Rishis and Sages even after undertaking extreme austerities and penance for several thousands of years.
