Chapter
– 23– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Kishkindha Kanda– Sugrivah orders Hanuman,
Angadha, Nala, and Jambavan to proceed to southern direction – Rama offers the
ring that has the Ramanama imprinted on it to Hanuman
The innumerable monkey warriors assembled
before Lord Rama were dispersed into different directions after listening to the
command of their King Sugrivah, reverentially bowed before Rama and their
chief. Further Sugrivah called for
Angadha, Nala, and Hanuman and spoke amiably “Oh! Wise ones, Angadha, Nala,
Hanuman, and Jambavan, you all are steadfast and intelligent warriors, you have
to proceed to the southern directions to conduct the search for Devi Sita, and
do not leave a single person you meet without enquiring the whereabouts of Devi
Sita. Oh! Intelligent ones, clarity of mind, thoughtful speech, and dexterity in
actions would bring successful accomplishment of the task of Rama. The leader
should serve his companions with thought, deed, and speech, we should strive
hard to achieve the fruitfulness of our birth and life after death as well. The
knowledge of the impermanent nature of material matters and pleasures would inspire
Jeeva to abandon the interest in worldly matters, thereby eradicating the sufferings
of the repeated births. The rarest birth as humans achieved to strive hard to attain
Bhakti, Gnana, Vairagya and practice pure love and devotion at the lotus feet
of Lord Rama. The Jeeva who have achieved intense faith and devotion at the
lotus feet of Lord Rama is fortunate, his life is fruitful.” Thus, the monkey
warriors Angadha, Nala, Jambhavan, Hanuman prostrated before Sugrivah and Rama,
conducted their journey contemplating at the lotus feet of Rama. Hanuman approached
Lord Rama before leaving, Rama called Hanuman to come closer, the supreme Lord
Hari has already perceived that the Hanuman is the one who is going to
accomplish the task of Rama. Rama affectionately stroked the head of Hanuman,
and offered his ring that carries the name ‘Rama’ imprinted on it, and spoke “Oh!
Hanuman, pacify Devi Sita in many ways, and return quickly, also convey my pain
of separation and agonies to her.” Hanuman felt he has reaped the fruit of his
birth, repeatedly prostrated before Lord Rama, and retired to woods
contemplating upon the Lord. The Supreme Lord Rama, who is the protector of deities,
omniscient, well respected the statecraft, appointed spies to locate the whereabouts
of Devi Sita.
