Bharatha spoke fervently “Oh! Deva Deva,  Oh! Prabho, after discussing with our preceptors, I have brought all the ingredients, waters from the sacred rivers, for the coronation ceremony of you as the King of Ayodhya, kindly fulfill our desire to witness the same. Oh! Prabho, I have a longing in my heart, but I couldn’t disclose it due to fear and anxiousness.” Rama abruptly rose from the seat and spoke “Oh! Dear brother, do not hesitate, what is that you are yearning for” after receiving permission from his elder brother, Bharatha began to spoke in a soft tone full of love “Oh! Prabho, kindly allow me to visit the sacred Mount Chithrakoot, forests, hills, lakes, streams, and mountains that hold your footprints.” Rama spoke affectionately “Oh! Bharatha, certainly visit those beautiful places which is the result of austerities and penance of Sage Athri, you can visit all those stunningly beautiful places with Sage Athri, and deposit that holy water you have brought from various sacred rivers in the streams and ponds wherever the Sage advise you to deposit, it would make the entire land furthermore auspicious and beautiful, remember to sprinkle the holy water on the places wherever Sage Athri directs you.” Bharatha rejoiced at heart and rushed to Sage Athri with great enthusiasm, and prostrated before the lotus feet of the Sage.

Rama spoke “Oh! Bharatha, a servant should sincerely follow the command of his master, hence servant resembles hands, legs, and eyes, and the Master resembles the Mouth, it is the ideal relationship of a Master and servant.” The whole assembly was transported to a state of ecstasy listening to the most compassionate and kind words of Rama of Lord of Raghu, those were nectar churned out from the milky ocean of love. Devi Sarada was astounded watching the state of people assembled. Finally, Bharatha achieved the supreme state of serenity, realized that his Master is highly propitious to him, all the anguish and fear flew away from him. Soon, Bharatha regained cheerfulness, and the heaviness of his heart was disappeared once for all as if the dumb person achieved excellence in the speech with the grace of Goddess Sarada. Bharatha prostrated at the lotus feet of Rama and began to speak with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, I have achieved the joy of accompanying to the dense wood, I feel like I was born again. Oh! Gracious Lord, kindly pronounce your command, whatever may be your order I shall follow it with great reverence and truthfulness. Oh! Prabho, kindly shower your auspicious grace on us and provide something that I could feel the presence of you during your term of exile, which would provide courage and perpetual grace so that I can carry out your orders sincerely.”

Chapter – 300– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama advises Bharatha to follow his duties and responsibilities

Rama spoke “Oh! Thatha, our preceptors saved not only the Kingdom of Ayodhya, and the state of affairs, they also protected our dignity, integrity, fame, virtues, righteousness, possessions, richness, etc. and it would remain protected with the grace of our preceptors for several thousands of years. Oh! Bharatha, the grace of our preceptors will continue to protect us in the woods as well as in the Kingdom. The Dharma/righteousness is strictly following the orders of one’s own parents, preceptors, and Veda and Shastras, Lord Adishesha holds the entire Universe on its hood. Oh! Dear brother, kindly obey the orders of our parents, and preceptors, and allow me to do the same for the welfare of all, in this way we can be the savior of the solar race. This is one of the disciplines that would bestow success and sacred as the Triveni/confluence Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswathi, which would bring fame, prosperity, and salvation from repeated births. Oh! Dear brother, kindly consider the hardships of the people of Ayodhya, and our own people, make all efforts to relieve their troubles and grief. Oh! Bharatha, my difficulties had been shared by all of you, I fear the fourteen years of exile of mine would put you in a lot of anguish. Oh! Brother, you are too emotional, soft-hearted, yet I have to speak the truth which is harsh, in difficult times the virtuous brothers stand together.”

Rama spoke passionately “Oh! Dear Bharatha, you are devoted by mind, words, and deed to me, there is no brother like you in this Universe, how can I keep silent without praising your virtues in the assembly of sages, Rishis, and noble souls? How can I recount the virtuous of my younger brother? You are incomparable and eloquent, Oh! Dear Bharatha, the illustrious clan of Surya, known for truthfulness and virtues, and our father’s fame are well known in the three worlds, you have elevated yourself to the noble status of our clan, you have thoroughly understood the seriousness of the situation, and respect for elders, preceptors, and noble souls, you have considered your foes and companions as neutral, you are well aware of the duties and responsibilities of us, and what’s advisable for you and me, and what we have to do at this critical moment. Oh! Thatha, I have utmost faith in you, still, I would like to quote something appropriate to the situation. Oh! Dear brother, we have not assigned the duties and responsibilities towards our preceptors, and subjects of our Kingdom in the absence of our father. If the sun sets before the hours of dusk, who would not suffer? In the same manner, the demise of our father the illustrious King Dhasharatha brought extreme agony and hardship to the Kingdom and its people. Fortunately, King Janaka and Sage Vashishta protected the Kingdom of Ayodhya and its people from further calamities.”

Chapter – 298– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The plight of the people in the assembly – The merit of singing in praise of devotion of Bharatha

Bharatha’s faultless glories resembled the unblemished moon, and the creative mind of the brilliant poets was like the Chakora birds devotedly looking at the moon without blinking their eyes, waiting to consume the droplets from the Swathi star. The Vedas and scriptures were incompetent to sing in praise of Bharatha’s nobility, not to speak about the minds of the poets, hence mere singing in praise of Bharatha’s devotion and love, who wouldn’t achieve pure love, devotion, and faith at the lotus feet of Rama and Devi Sita? Is there any vile Jeeva free from devotion to Rama, even after listening to the pure love of Bharatha? The Supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra perceived the mind and plight of the people, and Bharatha. The Lord of Raghu who is an ocean of mercy, love, truth, bliss, and virtue, after observing the time, place, and the situation, began to speak nectar-like compassionate words “Oh! Dear Bharatha, you are an upholder of virtues, righteousness, and you have in-depth knowledge of scriptures and Veda.”

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Mune, except Bharatha, the preceptors, King Janaka, Sages, and Rishis, rest of the people of Mithila and Ayodhya were engulfed in anxiousness. The Supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra who is Kripasindhu/ocean of mercy perceived the people are extremely distressed, they were suffering from the pain of separation, love, and devotion for Rama, and on the other hand, the trick played by Lord Indra. In the huge assembly, Bharatha’s pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama won over the ministers, preceptors, Rishis, and Sages, and King Janaka. Bharatha’s affection, nobility, amiability, virtues, were beyond words, watching the minuscule part of his love and devotion, the Rishis and Sages assembled were drenched in supreme bliss, the devotion and nobility of Bharatha have inspired the sublime thoughts in the mind of poets, how can this Tulsi describe the glory of Bharatha? even the excellent poets found it helpless to describe them all were came out as an infant’s speeches.”

Chapter – 296– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Lord Indra plays a trick on the mind of the people of Ayodhya and Mithila

Lord of Raghu, the assemblage of sages, Rishis, preceptors, King Janaka, and the people of Mithila and Ayodhya highly praised the virtues and love of Bharatha in their heart, the deities showered flowers watching the boundless love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Ramachandra. Sage Tulsidas says the deities must have withered witnessing the love and affection of Bharatha as if the cluster of lotus flowers at the hours of dusk. Lord Indra who always looks for his own benefits, played a trick on the mind of the people of Mithila and Ayodhya, who were grieving over the separation from Rama. The Lord of deities, Lord Indra, who always loves to win over the loss of others, expresses joy over the grief of others was always been the evil example among the deities, his nature was always been malicious, doubtful, and crafty. As usual, he had conceived the plan and put the people of Mithila and Ayodhya in deep distress, they turned out doubtful and miserable about the propitiousness of the deities, but their affection for Rama did not push them into gloominess completely, soon the people were engulfed by anxiousness and fear, now all of them wanted to be in the comfort of their own homes, leaving their liking for woods. The people of Mithila and Ayodhya were equally tormented by the uncertainties of life in the forests, their minds has become vacillating like the brimming water in the pond, they did not find peace in the company of each other, or did not disclose their grief to one and another. The compassionate Lord Sri Ramachandra perceived the trick played by Indra on the mind of the people and smiled at heart.

Chapter – 295– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha promises to serve the command of Rama in the assembly of ministers, Sages, Rishis, and preceptors

Bharatha spoke “Oh! Prabho, it is not wise to give long lectures before my gracious Master, kindly be pleased with us, and command us, we all are prepared to follow your orders sincerely. I shall promise on the dust particles from the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra, which is the essence of virtue, truthfulness, and bliss, I shall disclose the earnest desire that I have cherished in my heart in all four states of life/sleep, dream, walk and Thureeya, it is my duty to serve my Master Lord Sri Ramachandra with honesty and affection, forgetting my own interest to achieve the Purusharththa/Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha which is the ultimate object of the worldly existence. My noble Master Lord Sri Ramachandra would not neglect the desire of his servant, in order to achieve the fruitfulness of my life.” Bharatha was overwhelmed with various emotions, tears overflowing down the cheeks, his whole limbs were quivering in excitement, in deep distress, he has fallen at the lotus feet of Lord Rama and clasped his feet, the affection of the two brothers was beyond words. Rama raised Bharatha from the ground, pacified him with kind and compassionate words, and made him seated next to him. The whole assembly of Rishis, Sages, preceptors, ministers, and the people of Ayodhya and Mithila were overpowered by love watching the noble disposition and devotion of Bharatha at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra.

Bharatha spoke fervently “Oh! Prabho, you are well capable to transform your devotees, treating them with love and honor, and make them known as the jewel adorned on the crown of ascetics. Oh! Prabho, is there any deity known for kindness and compassion as you? You have firmly protected the promises made to your sincere devotees. Oh! Prabho, I have been distressed, and miserable, overlooked your commands and traveled to woods with the people of Ayodhya, yet you have accepted all of us with graciousness and removed our grief and agony. I have achieved the fortune to take shelter at your lotus feet, which is highly propitious to all. Oh! Prabho, I had the fortune to experience your affection and kindness in abundance, even after various faults of mine. My gracious Lord Sri Ramachandra overlooked all my faults and sins and showered an abundance of kindness and affection on me, which I do not deserve.  Oh! Prabho, you are the symbol of virtue, amiability, and noble disposition, I have overlooked your disposition, and spoken words of politeness and impoliteness as it was pleasing to me, kindly forgive me for all those mistakes, consider that I am a distressed Jeeva, and I am certain that my Lord Sri Ramachandra would pardon me.”

Prabho, you are eulogized by Veda and scriptures, your noble disposition and greatness are known to the whole Universe. Oh! Prabho, you are the ocean of mercy, and you ensure the protection of the Jeeva who have taken shelter at your lotus feet, be it cruel, deceitful, dull-witted, evil-minded, unscrupulous, or Jeeva who have no belief in you or uttered your sacred name ‘Rama’ or bow before you for once. Oh! Prabho, you do not notice the fault of the Jeeva who have taken shelter in you, instead, you don’t leave even a single opportunity to praise the virtues of them in the great assembly of the Sages and Rishis. Oh! Prabho, there is no Master gracious as you to your servants, you are the source of auspiciousness, happiness, and welfare to the Jeeva, even after all these. Chapter – 292– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha praising the splendor of Rama

Bharatha who is soaked in love and devotion for Rama watched the whole assembly enamored with love. Bharatha prostrated before the assembly, contemplating upon Lord Rama and Devi Sita, began to speak “Oh! Prabhu, Lord of Raghu you are my father, mother, companion, preceptor, Master, and the object of worship as well. You are my benefactor and controller of mind, deed, and intellect. Oh! Prabhu, you are the essence of virtues, amiability, kindness, and compassion, you are all-pervasive, you are the knower of all, you are the protector of the Universe and its living and non-living things. You are the protector of the souls who have taken refuge in you, you are omnipotent, you are the source of auspiciousness and welfare to Jeeva, you are the destroyer of sins and grief of worldly existence as well. Oh! Prabho, you are supreme Lord and protector of Jeeva, I am that unique and deceitful Jeeva to my Master. Oh! Prabho, it was my foolishness to bring the entire people of Ayodhya, there are goodness and evil, people of high and low ranks, but I haven’t heard anyone have the courage to overthrow your command even in their dreams. Yet you have considered all my deeds, words, thoughts are part of my love and devotion for you.”

Chapter – 291– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The members of the assembly gets troubled to arrive at a conclusion

The whole assembly comprises the illustrious Rishis, Sage Vashishta, Vamadeva, King Janaka, ministers, and members of the assembly became nervous listening to the humble promise of Rama, everyone’s eyes were fixed on Bharatha who was bashfully fixed his eyes staring on the ground. Bharatha realized that the whole assembly is confused, not in a position to decide, the virtuous and self-restraint brother of Rama took the reins, like the illustrious Sage Agasthya who was born out of the vessel, seized the growth of Mount Vindhyachala. The demon Hiranyaksha resemble the grief of worldly existence, captured Mother Earth which is the source of living and non-living things resemble the virtues of Bharatha, and put the whole world in utter bewilderment, the wild boar /Varaha, the savior of Earth like Bharatha’s discretion was delivered to the people assembled. Bharatha bowed before Rama, Janaka, preceptors, Rishis, Sages, and illustrious members of the assembly, and began to speak with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, kindly forgive me for my courage to speak among the illustrious members, kindly forgive me for my childish opinion.” Bharatha invoked Goddess Sarada who is the excellence in speech, entered into the Manasarovar like the mind of Bharatha, and flew out through the lotus-like mouth of Bharatha, shortly, the members assembled could hear the words full of wisdom, prudence, and piety from Bharatha.

Chapter – 290– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Vashishta describes the conversation that took place between King Janaka and Bharatha

The deities who are self-centered by nature employed a plot against the people of Ayodhya, soon they have tormented with the fear and anxiousness in their hearts. The deities impatiently observed Bharatha knowing that their success and failure lies in the hands of him. King Janaka visited the hermitage of Rama; Lord of Raghu was received with great honor. The priest of Raghu’s clan Sage Vashishta spoke words full of wisdom, and righteousness appropriate for the situation, he also detailed the conversation that took place between King Janaka and Bharatha and repeatedly described the beautiful speech of Bharatha “Dear Rama, we shall obey your orders sincerely, and it is my final decision.” Lord Rama with folded hands spoke innocent words after listening to the pleasing conversation of Bharatha. “Oh! Mune, it is disrespectful to speak anything before you and King Janaka/Lord of Mithila, hence kindly order us, I promise you that we shall obey your commands with all our heart.”

Chapter – 289– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The deities’ prayer to Devi Sarada to influence the mind of Bharatha

Lord Indra spoke in utter grief “Prabhu Sri Rama is benevolent to his fervent devotees, Oh! Deities, construct a plan so that we don’t get doomed into darkness.” Soon the deities invoked Devi Sarada, the Goddess of speech, and worshiped her. The deities eulogized Devi Sarada “Oh! Devi, we have taken shelter at your lotus feet, kindly protect us. Oh! Devi, kindly persuades Bharatha utilizing your powerful Maya and protect the deities from the ruin, kindly protect us by influencing the mind of Bharatha.” The supreme Goddess Devi Sarada shocked hearing the selfish request, understood that the mind of deities has taken over by self-centeredness, and has lost good senses. Devi Sarada spoke to Indra “Oh! Indra, you want me to influence the mind of Bharatha? It is pity that you did not understand the splendor of Mount Meru even though you have possessed thousands of eyes. The Maya of Lord Bhrama, Lord Hari, and Lord Hara are unconquerable, but Bharatha’s wisdom, intelligence, and reasoning ability are higher than that all of the illusionary powers of trinities, yet you are asking me to persuade Bharatha? Oh! Indhra, will it be possible for the moonlight to overshadow the brightness of the sun? Bharatha’s heart is the abode of Lord Rama and Devi Sita, will it be possible for the darkness to penetrate the place of sunshine?” Devi Sarada infuriatingly returned to the abode of Lord Bhrama, leaving the deities in distress like the Chakravaha in the night hours.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The deities get perturbed watching the pure love and devotion of the people in the woods

Chapter – 288– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The deities get perturbed watching the pure love and devotion of the people in the woods

Bharatha spoke amiably “Oh! Prabho, I am dependent on Rama, and it is my duty to do not create obstacles to the vows, righteousness, austerities, and promises of my Master. Hence kindly do good and whatever approved by all to protect the vows of my Lord Rama, kindly take notice of the affection of all us for Rama and Devi Sita.” King Janaka and his attendants, ministers were highly pleased with the kind words of Bharatha and congratulated him. The words spoken by Bharatha were wise yet unconceivable, sweet though harsh, vast but precise, everyone overwhelmed with anxiousness after listening to the nectar-like speeches of Bharatha, like the fish dived in the first showers of Monsoon. The deities enthusiastically observed the reaction of the preceptor Sage Vashishta, and the affection of King Vidheha, and behold Bharatha who is the very incarnation of pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama. The deities who were impatiently waiting to get rid of their troubles, once again pushed into gloominess watching the love and affection for Rama of the people assembled in the woods.

Chapter – 287– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka meets Bharatha to know about his further plans

King Janaka spoke fervently “Rama is Sathyavratha/truthful/strict follower of promises and Dharmaratha/he is the essence of righteousness, he respects the feelings of all. Rama is unhappy with watching all of us surviving in the woods, our inconvenience in the forest makes him disheartened. Oh! Dear son, let me know your final decision so that we can discuss it with Rama.” Bharatha’s eyes overflown with tears, a sudden rush of thrill ran through his limbs, began to speak amiably “Oh! Prabho, you are dear and respectful as my beloved father. My family preceptors Sage Vashishta, Sage Vamadeva, and all my mothers are most benevolent to me. Oh! Prabho, you are an ocean of wisdom, there are Sage Vishwamithra and many illustrious Sages are assembled here, kindly consider me as your child, an obedient servant of you. Oh! Prabho, kindly instruct me, I shall obey your order with all my hearts. Kindly do not ask my opinion in the midst of the illustrious Rishis and Sages and noble people, and that too in the sacred land of Chitrakoot, If I keep silent, it won’t be considered as auspicious, I should not speak in the midst of discussion between the wise and learned. Nevertheless, I may take this opportunity to speak, Oh! Dear Father, kindly forgive me knowing that my fate is against me. The scriptures and Veda highly emphasize that the duty of a servant is extremely hard, my duty to the service of my Lord should be selfless, it should not harm the righteousness and principles of my Lord.”

Chapter – 286– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka promises not to hinder the purpose of Rama’s exile to the woods

Sage Vashishta spoke “Oh! Rajan, you are the storehouse of virtues, righteousness, wisdom, prudence, and piousness, you are well capable to take an apt decision at this vulnerable moment.” King Janaka was overwhelmed with various emotions listening to the compassionate speech of Sage Vashishta, even his wisdom, dispassion, and intelligence became submissive to the King.  Shortly, King Janaka spoke in a soft tone “Oh! Prabho, I have made a wrong choice to visit Rama in the woods, King Dhasharatha ordered his son to proceed to the woods, immediately after that he left his mortal coil and proved his love for his son. We shall make it viable for Rama to move from the woods to achieve the triumph over our wisdom.” All the saints, ascetics, noble souls, Bhramins, hermits, preceptors were highly pleased listening to the wise words of King Janaka, were transported to a state of ecstasy.  King Janaka with his attendants moved to meet Bharatha, on their way Bharatha rushed to receive the King and offered a comfortable seat. King Janaka spoke passionately “Oh! Dear Bharatha, you know the disposition of Raghuveera.”

Chapter – 285– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Vashishta instructs King Janaka to take a decision good for the people of Mithila and Ayodhya

Sage Vashishta spoke fervently “Oh! Rama, you are Prana/soul in the Jeeva, you are the source of happiness and auspiciousness, Oh! Dear child, whoever afar from you is unfortunate, it was their bad luck. Oh! Rama, performance of rites without pure love or devotion at your lotus feet is worthless. The Yogic practices, knowledge in scriptures and Veda, austerities, vows, etc. without devotion at your lotus feet is unfruitful, you are the source of happiness to Jeeva, hence whoever devoted at your lotus feet with the knowledge of self/Athma is Paramatha, lives in bliss, on the other hand, whoever drenched in ignorance, soaked in worldly matters and chasing pleasures are destined to be unhappy. Oh! Rama, you are the knower of all, you reside as a soul in the Jeeva, you are that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam, the wise and learned are Bhramajjani, like the well brimming with the water, hence they immerse in the supreme bliss always. You may return to your hermitage now.” Sage Vashishta was overpowered with various emotions and paused for a while, Rama prostrated before the sage and left. Sage Vashishta summoned King Janaka, and both of them engaged in pleasant conversations, Sage Vashishta spoke “Oh! Maharaj, do whatever good for the people of Ayodhya and Mithila according to the Dharma.”

Chapter – 284– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama finds it difficult to watch the troubles of two families surviving in the forest

King Janaka spoke “ Oh! Devi, Bharatha cannot even dream of overthrow the command of Rama, Oh! Devi, we need not be anxious at all.” King paused for a while searching for words, his voice broken due to affection for Bharatha. Thus, King Janaka and Devi Sunayana spoke about the virtues, amiability, and love of Rama and Bharatha for long hours did not notice the passing of time. At the daybreak, the people of Ayodhya and Mithila proceeded to perform ablutions and worship of the deities. Rama performed the morning rite and met his preceptors Sage Vashishta and Vamadeva, prostrated before them, and began to speak after receiving permission “Oh! Prabho, Bharatha, my mothers, and the people of Ayodhya are grief-stricken, spending days in the woods in limited comfort. The King of Mithila, his family, preceptors, and his people are surviving in the woods for the past few days, are tired of a long journey. Therefore, kindly do whatever feasible to reduce their mental and physical afflictions, the welfare of all lies in your hands.” Rama stood before the preceptors amiably. Sage Vashishta and Vamadeva were highly impressed with the kind disposition of Rama, began to speak “Oh! Rama, without your presence the amenities in the royal palaces are hell for both the families.”

Chapter – 283– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka praises the pure love and devotion of Bharatha

King Janaka spoke thoughtfully “Oh! Devi, Bharatha is incomparable, his virtues, nobleness, amiability, are beyond comparison. Is it possible to compare the intellect of a poet with Mount Sumeru? Oh! Devi, whoever makes an attempt to describe the virtues would get baffled, like the fish that cannot dive on the dry land. Oh! Rani, Bharatha’s enormous glories are known to Rama, although he could not describe them in words.” King Janaka spoke lovingly watching the Queen “If Lakshman returns to Ayodhya, it would be appropriate for Bharatha to follow Rama to the woods, it would be good for all and that is what everyone desires. Oh! Devi, the mutual affection and confidence shared between Bharatha and Rama is beyond perception, even though Rama is the essence of calmness, Bharatha is the essence of pure love and devotion. Oh! Devi, Bharatha is guileless, what I have understood that Bharatha is free from spiritual, material, or worldly desires, he believes pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama is the one and only ultimate object of life.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – King Janaka describes the splendor of Bharatha to Devi Sunayana

Chapter – 282– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka describes the splendor of Bharatha to Devi Sunayana

Devi Sita remained in the embrace of her parents for some time and bade farewell to them. Devi Sunayana found it is the appropriate moment to have a word with the King about the state of Bharatha which was earlier discussed by Devi Kausalya. King Janaka heard the amiable and virtuous disposition of Bharatha, and his pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama from Devi Sunayana which made his eyes overflow with tears, transported to a state of ecstasy, King Janaka began to speak passionately “Oh! Sumukhi, Oh! Sulochani, listen to me carefully, the legend of Bharatha and his commendable virtues, devotion, and love are capable to release the Jeeva from the grief of worldly existence. Even though I have acquired in-depth knowledge in political science, knowledge of self/Bhramam and scriptures, alas! none of my knowledge would be able to touch the shadow of Bharatha’s glory, hence I could not describe the splendor of Bharatha. The glory of Bharatha surpasses the purity and nectar-like the sweetness of celestial river Ganga, it is highly revered and considered as meritorious by Lord Bhrama, Lord Shesha, Goddess Sharadha, Lord Ganesha, Lord Shambhu, learned, wise, Bhramajjanis, ascetics, and noble souls.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – King Janaka praising the virtues of Devi Sita

Chapter – 281– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka praising the virtues of Devi Sita

Devi Sita was deeply moved to watch her parents in anxiousness, soon the mother of the Earth has regained her normal self and remembered her noble duties to her consort and in-laws. King Janaka behold his dearest daughter in a saffron robe, overwhelmed with anxiousness and love, spoke affectionate words “Oh! Puthri/daughter, you have brought sanctity to both the families, everyone highly praises your virtues and amiability, your fame has outshone the celestial river Ganga, penetrated through the clan of Raghu’s and spreading light to the millions of Universes, while the celestial river Ganga exalted her glories in three worlds, the stream of your fame has added glories to the several ascetics, and noble souls.” King Janaka abundantly praised the virtues of Devi Sita that made her drown in the sea of bashfulness. King Janaka and Devi Sunayana embraced Devi Sita, advised her duties and responsibilities as the consort of Rama and her mother’s-in-law once again, and showered an abundance of blessings. Devi Sita did not speak a word.  Devi Sita felt it not advisable to stay with them leaving her consort and mothers-in-law at these inauspicious hours of mourning, she became uncomfortable to stay in the hermitage of her parents that night. Devi Sunayana read the mind of her daughter, and discussed the same with King Janaka, both of them admired the generosity and noble disposition of Devi Sita.

Chapter – 280– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka meets Devi Janaki attired in saffron robe in his hermitage

Devi Sunayana repeatedly prostrated at the feet of Devi Kausalya and asked permission to take Devi Sita with her that night, thus Devi Sunayana and Devi Sita returned to their hermitage of Janaka after obtaining permission from Devi Kausalya. Devi Sita greeted all her family members, friends, and attendants with great affection, everyone was heartbroken watching Devi Janaki attired in a saffron robe, and adorned in prayer beads. In the meantime, King Janaka obtained permission from Sage Vashishta and returned to his hermitage where he found his beloved daughter Janaki, his eyes welled up in tears, with the heart full of love, resembled the sacred Prayaga. Janaka’s affection for Janaki grown like a huge banyan tree, with lots of branches like love for Rama. The immortal Sage Markandeya like the wisdom of Janaka was bewildered, going to drown in the ocean of love for Janaki, was fortunately protected by the love for Rama, thus the affection for Rama and Devi Sita won over the wisdom of the King.

Chapter – 279– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Sunayana recollects the predictions of Sage Yajjavalkya

Devi Kausalya spoke in a soft voice “Oh! Devi Sunayana, kindly return to your hermitage, the Almighty Lord is the shelter to us, and Lord of Mithila is most promising to us.” Devi Sunayana prostrated at the feet of Devi Kausalya, listening to her kind and affectionate speech, she clasped the feet of Devi Kausalya and spoke “Oh! Venerable queen, you are kind and compassionate as the wife of great King Dhasharatha and the mother of Rama. The virtuous people treat the servants with kindness and respect like fire always followed with the smoke, huge mountains bear the grass on their bosom. Oh! Devi, King Janaka is your sincere attendant by word, mind, and deed, while the supreme Lord Shambhu and his consort Bhavani is your eternal savior. Who is on this Earth worthy to serve your clan? An ordinary lamp may spread light, but cannot compete with the Sunlight. Oh! Devi, Rama, and Devi Sita will successfully complete the exile period of fourteen years in the forest, thereby accomplish the tasks of the deities, after that, they will return to the Ayodhya safely. Oh! Devi, Sage Yajjavalkya has already prophesied about Rama’s exile, after proving the strength of his arms to the deities, Nagas, and humans, Rama will take up the regime as the King of Ayodhya, and peacefully live in his abode. The predictions of the illustrious Sage Yajjavalkya never go untrue.”

Chapter – 278– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Kausalya seeks the opinion of King Janaka to send back Lakshman to Ayodhya

Devi Kausalya regained her courage and spoke “Oh! Venerable queen of Mithila, you are the consort of the illustrious Rajarishi King Janaka, who is the ocean of wisdom, hence who is competent to advise you? Oh! Devi, kindly have a word with King Janaka during the leisure hours and ask the King to persuade Lakshman to return to Ayodhya, and let Bharatha follow Rama to the woods, only if the King is happy and satisfied with the proposal of mine. Oh! Devi, I am very much concerned about Bharatha, his love and devotion for Rama and Devi Sita is immeasurable, he has grown so devoted and affectionate to Rama, if he stays back in Ayodhya, I fear something untoward may happen to him.” All the queens were overwhelmed with anxiousness listening to the affectionate and guileless speech of Devi Kausalya, the deities showered flowers upon Devi Kausalya and praised her virtue. The hermits, Sages, Yogis were overpowered with various emotions by listening to the innocent, yet wise words of Devi Kausalya. All the women assembled kept silent, Devi Sumithra noticed everyone in grief, began to speak “Oh! Devi, it is almost an hour of the night have passed.” Devi Kausalya immediately rose from her seat listening to the reminder of Devi Sumithra.
