Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Thrijata’s nectar-like advice to Devi Sita

Chapter - 100– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Thrijata’s nectar-like advice to Devi Sita

Thrija speaks “Oh! Devi Janaki, Lord Sri Ramachandra resides in the heart of the worshiper who constantly remembers you, Ravana is fully absorbed in your thought, hence you are residing in his heart, and your consort Lord Sri Ramachandra is inseparable from you. If Rama struck an arrow on the heart of Ravana, it would hurt both of you, because you both dwell in Ravana’s heart. That’s why Lord Sri Ramachandra not striking his powerful arrows on the chest of Ravana, if he struck his chest that would destroy the infinite spheres on the stomach of Lord Sri Ramachandra as well.” Devi Janaki’s mind filled with great enthusiasm as well as grief listening to the marvelous explanations of Thrijata, and she continues after watching Devi Sita in utter distress “Oh! Beautiful one, listen to me, leave all your misconceptions, and anxiousness, your enemy will meet his death very soon. Each time Rama struck Ravana’s head, he would get freed from your thought, at the right moment, the Lord will pierce his heart with his powerful arrow.” Thus, Thrijata comforted Devi Sita with sweet nectar-like words and returned to her home. Devi Sita thought of the kindness and compassion of Lord Sri Ramachandra, once again it aggravated the pain of separation from him, she became inconsolable and felt the night as years, shed tears of grief, at that very moment, her left part of limbs and eyes began to throb as a sign of auspiciousness, she thought “The gracious Lord of Raghu will find a way to meet me very soon.” Ravana spend a sleepless night in the palace, he roared at his charioteer, “Oh! Fool, he has severed my heads several times, shame on you!” The charioteer clasped the feet of Ravana and comforted him in many ways. It was the early hours of dawn, Ravana mounted on his grand chariot and sallied forth to the battlefield, soon a huge army of Vanaras and bears arrived to battle against the demon, carrying huge rocks and trees on their hands, and crunching their teeth.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – The conversation between Devi Sita and Trijata

Chapter - 99– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The conversation between Devi Sita and Trijata

That very night Thrijata met Devi  Vaidhehi and informed all that was happening on the battlefield, Devi Sita felt alarmed listening to the might Ravana, and the news of Rama’s arrows sieved off the heads and arms of Ravana several times,  but the demon stood unconquerable on the battlefield, Sita’s mind filled with extreme anxiousness, she spoke in utter dismay “Oh! Mother, what is that going to happen? How could these demons get eliminated from the Universe? The several powerful arrows of Rama sieved off his heads and arms, unfortunately, they were growing relentlessly, was that because of the ill-fate of mine or the destiny, which brought me in the grief of separation from the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. The bad luck brought the illusionary golden deer before me, and it forced me to speak harsh words to Lakshman, all those visuals are piercing my heart again and again and multiplies the grief of separation from Lord Raghu who keeps me alive in these terrible situations, and he only can put an end to the wretched demon Ravana.” Devi Janaki lamented over her bad luck and contemplated upon Lord Raghu, who is kind and compassionate to his devotees. Trijata spoke “Oh! Rajakumari, princess of Vidheha, the end result will be, the enemy of deities will die, definitely, if an arrow struck on the chest of Ravana he would die, but Lord Raghu is careful, because Ravana keeps you in his heart, so the Lord Raghu does not want to hurt you, that’s the reason he is not piercing the heart of Ravana with his powerful arrows.”

The mighty Vanaras Angadha, Hanuman, Nala, and Neela, and the bears fought fearlessly on the battlefield against the demons created with the illusionary powers of Ravana, while the others cried for help “Oh! Kripasagara kindly protect us!”. The Lord of Kosala watched the malicious battle with the Vanaras and demons of illusive Ravana, smiled and stretched his bow Sharnga and shot an arrow that obliterated the host of illusive Ravana from the battlefield, like the sun remove the darkness, thus Prabhu Sri Ramachandra removed the illusive Ravanas, the deities rejoiced and showered flowers on Rama. The compassionate Lord raised his hands to the Vanaras and bears and brought back them in order, soon they darted to the battlefield with great enthusiasm. Ravana saw the deities singing in praise of Rama, he thought “Oh! Fools, do not misjudge my might, you have been my prey for long.” Ravana sprang into the air with great might, the deities began to flee to different directions with pitiful cries, soon Angadha flew to air and seized Ravana on his leg and thrashed him on the ground.

Devi Uma, Vibheeshana who is the younger brother to Ravana had never the courage to look at the face of Ravana, crumpled his elder brother with immense might at the grace of Lord Sri Ramachandra, resembled death to Ravana.” Hanuman realized Vibheeshana getting exhausted, soon rushed to the spot with a huge rock and crumpled the horses, and chariots of Ravana and gave a hard kick on his chest. Ravana lost his balance, experienced a terrible quake, in the meantime Vibheeshana retired to Lord Sri Ramachandra. The ten-headed demon hurled a powerful spear aiming on the chest of Vibheeshana, as the spear was approaching Vibheeshana like Lord of death, the compassionate Lord thought, “I have promised to protect the Jeeva who have taken shelter in me. I can’t leave Vibheeshana to die.” Soon the Lord pushed Vibheeshana behind him, the spear struck hard on Rama and lost his consciousness for a while, although it was a part of the amusement, the deities were alarmed at this sight.  Vibheeshana saw the compassionate Lord was severely injured with the spear, he took the spear and rushed to Ravana, and shrieked at him contemptuously “Oh! Fool, you pathetic creature, you have earned hostility against the deities, Nagas, humans, and sages, you have pleased Lord Shambhu and achieved several boons in return, you have offered your heads on the fire sacrifice and received immense boons that made you stay long, now your death is impending, are you seeking happiness after keeping hostility towards Lord Sri Ramachandra?” saying so Vibheeshan hit the spear on the chest of Ravana.

Chapter - 93– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Rama severed the heads of haughty demon Ravana

The heads and arms crammed on the atmosphere resembled several Rahu and Kethus, rushing through the air, blood oozing out of it, the terrible arrows of Rama shot the heads but it continued to pop on the air. The arrows released from the shaft of Lord Raghu resembled the sunrays on Rahu. The heads and arms severed from the body of Ravana with the powerful arrows of Rama regained the normal state in no time, resembled the desire of humans and interest in sensual pleasure and material well-being. Dhashanan perceived several heads and arms on the air, became haughty, and believed that he can’t meet his death on the battlefield. The ignorant demon rushed to Rama with the bows on each pair of hands and aimed at the chariot of Lord of Raghu that was disappeared from the site for more than half an hour, like the sun covered in mist. The deities raised fearful cries, Lord Rama stretched his bow in extreme fury, shot arrows on ten heads of Ravana, and it severed from the neck and flew in eight directions, the Vanaras were horror-struck, watching the severed heads of Ravana shrieked “Victory! Victory! Victory! Where is Lakshman? Sugrivah, Lord of Kapeeshwara,? Where is Lord of Raghu, King of Kosala?”

The army of demon horrified listening to the deafening resonance of Kodhanda/the powerful bow of Rama, the battle between Rama and Ravana pushed the carnivores in extreme terror, Mandodhari’s heart trembled in fear and anxiousness, the Earth quivered, the ocean became unrest, the elephants guarding the eight quarters trumpeted in terror, and the deities rejoiced to watch the fierce battle between Rama and Ravana. Rama stretched the bow up to ears and shot several arrows that resembled serpents darted on the air. These powerful arrows killed the charioteer and the horses of Ravana, and crumpled his chariot, Ravan realized that his strength is diminishing, did not give up, he roared loudly and took a flight to another chariot, crunched his teeth, released several arrows and fierce weapons aiming at Rama and the Vanaras. All those weapons of Ravana failed like the Jeeva whose mind intent to hurt the pious. Ravana hurled ten spears aiming at the horses of Rama, which was overthrown, the compassionate Lord pulled up horses with the reins and showered arrows aiming at the head of Ravana, it darted like bees and struck the head of Ravana resembled the honey bees settled on the lotus flower. The ten heads were struck with an arrow, the blood oozed out of the wound, the mighty demon did not stop chasing Rama. Soon, Lord of Raghu released thirty arrows that pierced his heads and arms and severed from the body, surprisingly the heads and arms shot down were grown immediately. In this way, each time Rama shot arrows on the heads and arms of Ravana were severed and got back to normal, it was continued for a while as an amusement of Lord. The Supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra took great pleasure in the battle with the demon, soon the entire battlefield crowded with the several heads and arms of Ravana.

Ravana gave out a boisterous laugh and spoke “Oh! Hermit, are you teaching me wisdom on the battlefield, are you not afraid of my might? Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Rama’s battle against Ravana

Chapter - 90– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Rama’s battle against Ravana

The Vanaras and bears got terrified to watch several Rama and Lakshman in place of demons, and they stood without blinking eyes, like portraits. Lord Sri Hari smiled watching the host of Rama and Lakshman on the battlefield, he shot an arrow and dispersed the illusions on the battlefield. Rama smiled at the Vanaras and bears and spoke pleasantly “Oh! Comrades, you all are tired and exhausted, take a rest for a while, and watch the battle between me and Ravana.” Thus, Rama contemplating upon the Bhramins/twice-born, and hurried on the chariot to battle against Ravana, who was already annoyed watching Rama’s might, spoke words in extreme fury “Oh! Hermit, do not misjudge my might, I am not the one like you have met on the battlefield and destroyed, I am Ravana whose might is known in the fourteen spheres, and my prison holds the deities and demi-gods of fourteen spheres, you have killed Khara, Dhooshana, Thrishirass, and the poor Vali who got killed from a hunter like you. You have wiped out the entire demon clan, and killed the mighty Kumbhakarnna and Meghnatha, and today it's my turn to retaliate with you for all your mischievousness. I will make you flee from the battlefield, or you will face death in my hands, you haven’t heard the might of Ravana yet.” Lord Rama looked at the ten-headed demon compassionately, and spoke with a smile “Oh~ Dhashanan, you are right you have great prowess, do not praise your might, show me your valor.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Ravana adopted illusionary powers on the battlefield

Chapter - 89– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Ravana adopted illusionary powers on the battlefield

The warriors of Vanaras and bears crushed the huge army of demons with the grace of Lord Sri Ramachandra, several demons were put to sleep permanently with the arrows of the Lord, the battlefield crammed with the lifeless bodies, and river of blood, headless bodies running all over the field, and the body less heads screaming “Victory! Victory!”. Ravana thought “most of my army got destroyed, I have left alone on the battlefield, but the Vanaras and bears are numerous, I have no other way to survive other than adopt the illusionary powers to keep me alive.” The deities saw the supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra stood gigantically on the battlefield, they felt troubled at heart, soon Indra delivered his grand chariot driven by the charioteer Mathali, thus the King of Kosala gladly mounted on the magnificent chariot of Lord Indra. The chariot of Indra was drawn by four highly enthusiastic horses that are youthful, stunning, imperishable and it has the speed of mind. The Vanaras and bears got extremely thrilled to watch Lord of Raghu on the magnificent chariot, they were fully charged, Ravana found the Vanaras are too annoying, began to adopt illusionary tricks on them. None of the illusionary powers struck Rama, but the Vanaras and Lakshman got influenced by it, the Varanas perceived several Ramas and Lakshmans on the battlefield and got frightened.

The most unholy river of blood / Rudhira Saritha, streamed all over on the battlefield, some of them flee from the war field, the two armies resembled bank of the stream of blood, the chariots resembled the sandbank and their wheels as the water current, it was a frightful scene indeed. The stream of the river of blood crammed with the bodies of warriors, and animals, represent the aquatic animals, the arrows, spears on the stream of blood resembled the serpents and alligators, and the bows resembled the waves, and the shields floated on the blood represented the tortoise. The lifeless bodies of the warriors resembled huge trees on the Rudhirasaritha, and the flesh and bones represented the wastage, the courageous cheered at the sight, and the cowards felt uneasy. The Bhootha, Pretha, Pishacha, Pramathaganas took the plunge into the stream of blood, the crows and crane plucked the human limbs and flew away, and shared the meat with other creatures, some said “What a pathetic sight, the fools continues to suffer even after the abundance of meat” the severely wounded warriors lay half of the body on the sand and remaining half on the pool of blood, like the practice of giving holy dip to the lifeless body in the sacred waters, the vultures took pleasure in the meat resembled the fisherman who patiently waits for the prey to get hooked on the net. The birds perched on the dead bodies floated on the Rudhriasaritha resembled the latter enjoying the ferry ride.  Yogins, the female Ganas of Devi Durga hurried to the stream of blood with the skull on their hands, to devour the blood, the Bootha Vethala and Pishacha danced all over the battlefield, the female Ganas Chamunda sang in loud voice, with the sounds of cymbals. The herd of Jackals took great pleasure in tearing off the fleshes of the dead warriors, the headless bodies ran all over the battlefield, and the body less head screamed “Victory! Victory!”.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – The deities appeal to Rama to kill Ravana

Chapter - 86– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The deities appeal to Rama to kill Ravana

Ravana did not move an inch from where he was seated, the Vanaras were agitated bit him, slapped him, and they began to attack Devi Mandodhari who was standing beside him, they pulled hair curly hair locks and dragged her out of the palace, Devi Mandodhari cried out bitterly for help, Ravana rushed to save her, he seized the Vanaras on leg and thrashed them on the ground, when he looked back the Vanaras were destroyed the entire Yagashala, he felt deeply dejected. The Vanaras and bears safely returned to Lord Rama after ruining the fire sacrifice of Ravana who stood in extreme rage and disappointment. There were several evil omens that appeared before Ravana, vultures parched above his head, he ignored all the inauspicious omens, and ordered his men to beat the drums as a part of the declaration of war against enemies, he did not pay attention to the advice of his preceptors, and noble souls, alas! he was rushing to the mouth of death. Thus, a huge Chathurangasena/men, chariot, horses, and elephants of Ravana hurried to the battlefield, resembled the moth rushing to the fire. The deities appealed to Lord Raghu “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Karunanidhi, do not play with the wretched Ravana anymore, he has caused a lot of trouble to us, and Devi Sita is becoming helpless, hence kindly put an end to the wicked demon.” Rama smiled to hear the request of the deities, the Lord of Raghu rose from the seat, tied the matted hair locks on the pinnacle of the head, fastened the quiver on the waist, hold the powerful Sharnga on the hand, his beautiful eyes resembled lotus flower petals, and attractive masculine limb of dark-complexioned partially covered in saffron robes, prepared to set out from the mount Suvela.

Chapter - 85– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Ravana performs the fire sacrifice to become immortal was disrupted by the Vanaras

Lakshman hurried to the battlefield, struck the charioteer and the chariot of Ravana with the shot of an arrow, the charioteer withered in pain, Ravana whose chest is pierced by hundreds of arrows, fell down on the ground. Soon another charioteer rushed to Ravana and carried him on his chariot, and dropped in the palace of Lanka, Lakshman returned to Rama and prostrated at his feet. Ravana regained the consciousness and began to prepare for a fire sacrifice to achieve victory on Rama, it shows the height of dullness and ignorance of Ravana to achieve glory after keeping hostility towards the Jagadhrakshaka. Vibheeshana came to know about the wicked plan of his elder brother and duly informed Rama about his fire sacrifice “Oh! Prabho, Sri Ramachandra, my elder brother has begun to perform a fire sacrifice that would keep him immortal, if he completes the fire sacrifice, he would remain unconquerable, hence kindly send the army of Vanaras to disrupt the fire sacrifice, and bring him to the battlefield.” At the daybreak, Hanuman, Angadha, and mighty Vanaras returned to Lanka, they effortlessly sprang all over the palace of Lanka and arrived at the spot where Ravana was performing the fire sacrifice. The Vanaras were extremely infuriated darted at him shrieking “You wicked, ran out of the battlefield in fear and performing fire sacrifice and meditation for the victory against Lord Sri Ramachandra. What an irony?” saying so Angadha gave a hard punch on Ravana, but he did not move an inch from his seat, he was fully absorbed to achieve the goal of fire sacrifice.

Ravana was known very little about the might of Lakshman, soon Vayuputhra rushed to Lakshman was hit by the strong fist of Ravana, he did not fall on the ground, managed to stand on knees, rushed to Ravana and gave a hard punch resembled the mountain struck by lightning, pushed him unconscious, after a while, Ravana regained consciousness and praised the might of Vayuputhra who shrieked at Ravana “Shame on my warriors, shame on my might, you are still alive.”, while Ravana was watching in amazement, Hanuman carried Lakshman safely on his shoulder and rushed to Rama. Lord of Raghu showered compassionate grace on Lakshman and spoke “Oh! Dear brother, remember that you are the savior of deities, capable to devour death.” Immediately Lakshman rose from the seat and the arrows on the chest vanished in the air, soon Lakshman wielded on bow and arrow hurried to the battlefield.

Ravana wielded on ten bows on each pair of hands, showered arrows that flew like serpents on the air, soon the arrows crammed on the Earth, and the eight quarters leaving no space to run for the Vanaras and bears who were cried in panic “Oh ! Prabho, Sri Ramachandra, Oh! Karunasindhu, Oh! Raghuveera, Oh! Arththabandhu, Oh! Janarakshaka, Oh! Hare,” listening to the pathetic cries of Vanaras and bears, Lakshman wielded on bow and arrow bowed his head to Lord Rama, and hurried in extreme fury to the battlefield. Lakshman shrieked at Ravana “Oh! Wicked demon, you are aiming at the Vanaras and bears, look at me I am your death standing before your eyes.” Ravana yelled back “Oh! Hermit, I was looking for you all days, slayer of my son, today I will pacify my heart by killing you.” Thus, Ravana showered arrows on Lakshman was cut into several pieces with the powerful arrows. Soon Ravana hurled several thousands of vicious weapons on Lakshman was torn into pieces exactly the size of sesame seeds. Lakshman aimed at the Ravana’s charioteer and the chariot and crushed them into pieces, and each of the ten heads of Ravana was transfixed with hundreds of arrows, resembled the serpents darting to their way back to mountains. Lakshman shot hundreds of arrows on the chest of Ravana, which toppled him on the ground with a large thud and lost consciousness. Soon, Ravana regained consciousness and hurled the Asthra bestowed by Lord Bhrama.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Ravana’s battle against the mighty Vanaras

Chapter - 82– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Ravana’s battle against the mighty Vanaras

The Vanaras resembled death on the battlefield, covered their huge bodies in the blood, roared like thunder clouds, crushed the demons under their feet and limbs, slapped and tore off their bodies with their sharp nails and teeth, adopted all the techniques to eliminate the enemies. The Vanaras and bears produced shrill cries seized the demons, ripped off their bellies, and hung their intestine as a garland around their neck, resembled several Nrisimha, Lord of Prahladha on the battlefield, the whole atmosphere reverberated with the cries of “Seize him! Kill him! Cut him into pieces! Knockdown!”, added glories to Lord Sri Ramachandra who transforms the blade of grass into Asthra and vice versa.

Ravana witnessed the sharp decline of the army of demons, he mounted on the chariot in extreme rage and wielded bow on the pair of ten hands and instructed the demons on the battlefield to keep themselves away, his twenty eyes were reddened in fury, his chariot darted to the troop of Vanaras and bears. At that moment, the Vanaras hurled huge trees and rocks upon Ravana whose mighty stature stood firm on the chariot, the rocks hurled on him turned into pieces. He drove the chariot amidst the Vanaras and bears aimlessly, crushing them under the chariot, the Vanaras and bears shrieked for help “Oh! Angadha, Oh! Vayuputhra, help us, Oh! Lord of Raghu, Kosaladheesha, Oh! Raghuveera kindly protects us from the mouth of death.” Ravana saw the Vanaras and bears started to flee from the battlefield, immediately he fitted arrows on the ten bows.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – The description of the battle between Vanaras and demons

Chapter - 81– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The description of the battle between Vanaras and demons

Rama spoke pleasantly “Oh! Dear friend, Vibheeshana, whoever possesses the chariot of vows, pieties, and austerities can conquer the mighty and invisible foe known as an attachment to worldly matters and bondage.” Vibheeshana clasped the feet of Raghunandhan in extreme joy “Oh! Prabho, you have utilized this opportunity to impart the highest of wisdom, Oh! Prabho, you are an embodiment of bliss and knowledge.” On the battlefield, Ravana shrieked at Vanaras to meet their fate in the hands of dreadful demons, while Angadha, Hanuman like mighty warriors were all prepared to battle against them, soon a fierce battle broke out between Vanaras and demons. The deities, Siddhas, Lord Bhrama, celestials arrived to witness the battle between Rama and Ravana. Lord Mahadeva spoke “Oh! Devi Uma, I was also among the deities to witness the glorious war between Rama and Ravana.” The deities eulogized the valor and virtues of Rama, both the demons and Vanaras were maddened with the passion to battle against each other, the Vanaras and bears led the war field with the grace of Lord Sri Ramachandra. They tore each other in vengeance, caught the enemies on leg and thrashed on the ground, showered rocks and trees on each other, they caught the enemies and ripped off their limbs, the bears and Vanaras killed several demons and buried under the sand. The Vanaras and bears resembled the death who desperately fought against the demons.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – The conversation between Vibheeshana and Rama

Chapter - 80– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The conversation between Vibheeshana and Rama

The mighty Vanaras and bears in multitudes who resembled mountains without wings rushed to the demons, carrying huge trees and rocks on their hands, with the sharp nails and teeth as a weapon, fearless by nature cheered in excitement “Hail Rama! Hail Seethapathi Sri Ramachandra who resemble lion to the untamed elephant-like Ravana!” and they sang in praise of Lord Sri Ramachandra. The demons praising the might of the demon king Ravana, and the Vanaras and bears praising the glories of Sri Ramachandra, engaged in a fierce battle, the war field echoed the sounds of ‘Victory!  Victory!”. Vibheeshana who has grown too fond of Rama noticed his elder brother Ravan mounted on the magnificent chariot and Rama, the Lord of Raghu, without a chariot on the battlefield, it pushed him in utter dismay, he prostrated at the feet of Lord Rama, and spoke in tears “Oh! Prabho, you have no chariot or shield to protect your body, or you have no pair of feet cover, how could you fight against that mighty demon?” The merciful Lord Sri Ramachandra spoke “Oh! Vibheeshana, Oh! Dear Friend, listen to me carefully, I shall explain the real nature of a chariot, its four wheels represent valor and fortitude, the banner and standard of the chariot represent truthfulness and good conduct, the four horses of the chariot represent, strength, self-control, discretion, and benevolence, the reins on the horses represent forgiveness, compassion, and steadfastness. The faith and devotion are the charioteers, the dispassion is the shield, and the contentment is the sword, charity is the axe, the spear represents wisdom/supreme knowledge, the bow represents determination, the quiver represents pure and firm mind, and the Yama and Niyamas/austerities, penance, vows, are the powerful arrows. The selfless service to Bhramin and preceptors are the supreme Kavacha/shield, that brings fruitfulness to the task. Oh! Dear friend, whoever owns the chariot of piety, austerities, vows, shall have no enemies.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – The description of the army of Ravana

Chapter - 79– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The description of the army of Ravana

Ravana and his army of demons witnessed various inauspicious omens, the weapons slipped out of his hands, the warriors were thrown out of the chariot, horses and elephants were produced loud cries and unwilling to move on the pathways, jackals, vultures, dogs, and donkeys gave out a shrill cry, the owls uttered alarming sounds like the messengers of death. The Jeeva who is sinful, soaked in impurities of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and completely drenched in illusion, physical and sensual pleasures, afar from the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra, could ever dream of happiness? The huge army of demons overlooked all the ill omens and sallied forth to the battlefield followed by Chathurangasena/chariot, elephants, horses, and men, mounted on various vehicles, decorated with the banners of different colors, dutifully marched to the battlefield. The disorderly elephants and horses marched to the battlefield were resembled the rainy clouds scattered by the heavy wind. The multitudes of demons attired in magnificent clothes, wielded in several vicious weapons, skilled in war tactics and illusionary powers moved to the battleground. The army of demons was beyond description, the elephants that were guarding the eight directions staggered, the earth quivered, the ocean became agitated, the mountains trembled, the dust-covered the atmosphere concealed the sunlight, and the air stood standstill. The sounds of kettledrums resembled the deafening noise of thunder at the time of deluge, the pipe instruments gladdened the heart of the warriors, the heroes roared like lions and revealed their might. Ravana cheered “Oh! Warriors, eliminate the mass of  Vanaras and bears from the battlefield, while I slay the two hermits.” He ordered his men to proceed to the battlefield, the Vanaras who perceived the mighty demons on the war field, rushed towards them in millions and millions contemplating upon the supreme Lord Rama.
