Chapter - 89– Sri Ramacharitha Manas –
Lanka Kanda – Ravana adopted illusionary powers on the battlefield
The warriors of Vanaras and bears crushed
the huge army of demons with the grace of Lord Sri Ramachandra, several demons
were put to sleep permanently with the arrows of the Lord, the battlefield
crammed with the lifeless bodies, and river of blood, headless bodies running
all over the field, and the body less heads screaming “Victory! Victory!”.
Ravana thought “most of my army got destroyed, I have left alone on the
battlefield, but the Vanaras and bears are numerous, I have no other way to
survive other than adopt the illusionary powers to keep me alive.” The deities
saw the supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra stood gigantically on the battlefield,
they felt troubled at heart, soon Indra delivered his grand chariot driven by
the charioteer Mathali, thus the King of Kosala gladly mounted on the magnificent
chariot of Lord Indra. The chariot of Indra was drawn by four highly
enthusiastic horses that are youthful, stunning, imperishable and it has the
speed of mind. The Vanaras and bears got extremely thrilled to watch Lord of
Raghu on the magnificent chariot, they were fully charged, Ravana found the
Vanaras are too annoying, began to adopt illusionary tricks on them. None of
the illusionary powers struck Rama, but the Vanaras and Lakshman got influenced
by it, the Varanas perceived several Ramas and Lakshmans on the battlefield and
got frightened.
