Chapter - 92– Sri Ramacharitha Manas –
Lanka Kanda – The description of the war between Ram and Ravana
The army of demon horrified listening to
the deafening resonance of Kodhanda/the powerful bow of Rama, the battle
between Rama and Ravana pushed the carnivores in extreme terror, Mandodhari’s
heart trembled in fear and anxiousness, the Earth quivered, the ocean became
unrest, the elephants guarding the eight quarters trumpeted in terror, and the
deities rejoiced to watch the fierce battle between Rama and Ravana. Rama stretched
the bow up to ears and shot several arrows that resembled serpents darted on the
air. These powerful arrows killed the charioteer and the horses of Ravana, and
crumpled his chariot, Ravan realized that his strength is diminishing, did not
give up, he roared loudly and took a flight to another chariot, crunched his
teeth, released several arrows and fierce weapons aiming at Rama and the Vanaras.
All those weapons of Ravana failed like the Jeeva whose mind intent to hurt the pious.
Ravana hurled ten spears aiming at the horses of Rama, which was overthrown, the
compassionate Lord pulled up horses with the reins and showered arrows aiming
at the head of Ravana, it darted like bees and struck the head of Ravana
resembled the honey bees settled on the lotus flower. The ten heads were struck
with an arrow, the blood oozed out of the wound, the mighty demon did not stop
chasing Rama. Soon, Lord of Raghu released thirty arrows that pierced his heads
and arms and severed from the body, surprisingly the heads and arms shot down
were grown immediately. In this way, each time Rama shot arrows on the heads
and arms of Ravana were severed and got back to normal, it was continued for a
while as an amusement of Lord. The Supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra took great
pleasure in the battle with the demon, soon the entire battlefield crowded with
the several heads and arms of Ravana.
