Kanda– Rama performs the final rites of Jatayu - Kabandha Moksha
The King of Birds, Jatayu achieved intense
devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari as a boon and proceed to the abode
of Lord Hari. Rama performed the final rites of Jatayu, thus the compassionate Lord
Rama proved his impartial nature to his devotees, ultimately Jatayu who was
born in the lowly clan of vultures, carnivores by nature attained Paramamgathi
which is difficult to achieve even for the Yogis. Lord Mahadeva speaks to Devi
Uma “Oh! Devi, listen to me carefully, the unfortunate Jeeva move afar from the
pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and get attached to
the material matters of worldly existence such as wealth, richness, money,
fame, family, children, wife, relatives and companions, etc…and the infinite
Nama, Rasa, Roopa, Gandha, and Sparsha. The two brothers proceeded to the dense
forest in search of Devi Sita, conducted a demanding exploration, on their way
they met the demon Kabandha who got killed at the hands of Rama, while leaving the mortal coil Kabandha explained the curse of Sage Durvassa, and praised Lord Rama
for showering mercy upon him. The compassionate Lord Rama pacified “Oh!
Kabandha, Oh! Gandharva, I can’t bear the merciless act on Bhramins.”
