Chapter
– 121 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Maharishi Narada’s pride over the
victory on Kamadeva
Sage
Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Mune, Lord Kamadeva accepted his defeat in great
despair, and repeatedly prostrated before Maharishi Narada, and begged for
forgiveness. But Maharishi Narada was serene, showed no sign of fury, conversed
with him pleasantly. Lord Kamadeva repeatedly prostrated before the lotus feet of
Sage Narada, and felt utterly disgraceful of his act, requested permission to
leave. Thus, Lord Kamadeva returned to the abode of Lord Indra and explained his
failure in creating an impediment to the Tapasya of the Sage and regretted acting
on behalf of Indra. All the deities highly praised the austerities of Maharishi
Narada and eulogized Lord Hari for his compassion upon his devotees. Maharishi
Narada was swollen with pride for his success over Kamadeva with his mere
silence because Lord Kamari crushed the pride of Kamadeva by burning him into
ashes, the mere thought of his victory over Kamadeva without creating any confusion
in the Universe made Narada overproud of his success, wanted to share the very
important piece of information with Lord Shiva. The compassionate Lord Mahadeva
patiently listened to the description of Maharishi Narada and spoke in a pleasant
tone “Oh! Maharishi, I request you not to reveal this success story to Lord
Hari, even if he asks to narrate it, kindly cover it up with something else.”
