Chapter – 35 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas –
Bala Kanda – The magnificence of the River Sarayu
The pious and Mahatmas take a holy dip in
the sacred river Sarayu, contemplate and meditate upon Lord Rama who has
attractive limbs resemble dark rain clouds. The Veda and scriptures highly eulogize
the sacred river Sarayu as Thribidha Thapaharini/Adhidheivik – grief caused by an epidemic,
natural calamities, droughts, famine, etc. Adhibhauthik – grief caused by the
attachment to material matters, richness, wealth, fame, money, possession,
wife, children, relatives, and companions of fleeting nature, and the distress
in the absence of them, Adhyathmik – grief caused by aging, illness, fear of
death, the grief of separation, etc. whoever take a dip in this sacred water would get
rid of impurities of the mind, sins and grief, and sufferings of Samsara. Goddess
Sarada who symbolizes wisdom and speech is incompetent to describe the devoutness of the sacred river Sarayu. The beautiful city of Ayodhya is one of
the sacred lands on the Earth, whoever leaves mortal coil on this land would
achieve liberation from the cycles of repeated birth, it is the heavenly abode
of Rama who was born as the result of piousness of King Dhasharatha and Devi
Kausalya. I shall begin to compose the glorious Sri Ramacharitha, residing on
this well-known sacred land, with the grace of supreme Lord Rama who is the
bestower of success and happiness, whoever listens or read to this Sri
Ramacharitha Manas would get rid of 1) Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha,
Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and 2) achieve serenity of mind, and get
rid of the untamed elephant-like arrogance and lust, and the scorching heat of
sufferings and grief of Samsara. The
beautiful Sri Ramacharitha Manas was conceived by Lord Shambhu is the source of delight for the Santh Mahatmas. It destroys the Thrividha Thapa/Adhideivik,
Adhibhauthik and Adhyathmik and the evilness of the Kali era. The Supreme Lord
Shambhu conceived the glorious legend Sri Ramacharitha Manas and preserved it safely
on his mind, and later, it was delivered to Goddess Bhavani at a promising
moment. Oh! Sujana/noble-souls, I shall
describe the most propitious and beautiful legend of Sri Ramacharithamans,
listen to me attentively.
