Chapter - 24– Sri Ramacharitha Manas –
Lanka Kanda – Angadha advises Ravana to leave animosity against Lord of Raghu
Angadha spoke “Oh! Ravana, you may blame
the Vanara who set fire to Lanka without the order of his Master, and he did
not meet Sugrivah with the fear of death, etc. I do not get angry on any of
these, because there is none would be prepared to fight against you if they
have any amount of grace in them, Oh! Ravana, you do not have the basic
knowledge of how to choose enemies and friends, remember that make friends and
enemies with the people who have the same strength as you. No one would praise
a lion if it killed a frog, in the same manner, if Rama kills you, everyone would
blame him, hence leave your animosity with Lord Sri Ramachandra, the valorous
Kshatriyas are unpredictable and definitely, you can’t withstand before him.”
Ravana laughed out and spoke ironically “One Vanara shot spears like harsh
words against the mighty King who has ten heads, and twenty powerful arms, now the
hero of demons extracting the arrows like harsh words from his limbs. Finally,
I have understood one thing clearly, Vanara possesses great virtue, they are
selfless and serve their Master in all possible ways.”
Ravana spoke sarcastically “Congratulations
Vanara! You are well capable to dance to the tune of your Master at any time
and anywhere, your race is well known for their dance to the tune of their
Master who protects them and performs various amusements to entertain the
people that show your dedication. Oh!
Angadha, the race of Vanaras is famous for their devotion to their Masters, I
respect their nature, that’s why I am listening to your gibberish talks with
great generosity.” Angadha spoke “Oh! Ravana, the son of Lord Vayu, Hanuman
has portrayed your qualities very well, he destroyed your pleasure gardens,
killed your son, destroyed your mighty army, set fire to Lanka, yet you feel he
didn’t do anything wrong to you. I have witnessed your magnanimity that was
already described by the son of Lord Vayu, you are shameless, you have no
resentment, you are the destroyer of your clan.” Ravana spoke contemptuously “Oh!
Vanara, do you call me the death of my father, I would have taken your life for
your nonsense, but leaving you knowing that you are the only son of mighty Vali.”
Angadha spoke “Oh! Ravana, listen to me that I have heard about you, one Ravana who went to Pathaloka to battle against Bali was conquered and tied up in the
stable by his children and thrashed to death was saved by Bali, and released. There was another Ravana who was captured by Sahasrabhahu, thinking about
him as a strange creature with ten heads and twenty arms, and brought to his
home for amusement was released by Sage Pulasthya.”
