Chapter – 278– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– The messengers were sent to the Kingdom of Ayodhya – The City of Mithila preparing for witnessing the grand wedding arrangements

Sage Vishwamithra continues “Oh! Rajan, nevertheless, you can carry out all the ceremonies and wedding rites after conversing with your elderly members of the family, sincerely following customary rites and the rites prescribed in the Veda, after discussing with the twice-born in your Kingdom, and your preceptor Sage Shathanandha. Firstly, let the King of Ayodhya Dhashratha should be duly informed about the news of the proceedings and the future plan of activities.” Kind Janaka happily responded “Oh! Bhagavan, I shall follow your instructions carefully.” Further, the message was duly sent to King Dhasharatha, invited the prominent members of the Kingdom and King Janaka invited them reverentially and spoke in wise words “Oh! Dear members, kindly prepare the city of Mithila for the grand wedding of Devi Sita with Lord Rama, make extravagant arrangements and decorations all over the cities, markets, streets, public places, pathways, shrines, etc.” Kind Janaka enthusiastically summoned the attendants to erect pavilion, banners, flags, tents, temporary arrangements for the participants to witness the grand celestial wedding. Thus, the grand arrangements were begun in the palace of Janaka, a huge number of workers and artisans delightfully engaged in building pavilions, refreshment areas, pleasure gardens, etc. The skilled workers offered prayers to Lord Bhrama and began the work of erecting huge pillars of gold, building structures, roofing, and decoration work, etc.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – The joy of King Janaka

Chapter – 277– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– The joy of King Janaka

The deities, celestials, Apsaras and Gandharvas, showered flowers on Rama, the sounds of divine instruments reverberated in the sky, the righteous and wise people rejoiced at heart, the wicked and unruly disappeared from the assembly. There were festivities began, the auspicious sounds of music echoed all over the city, people exchanged auspicious ingredients as a sign of upcoming wedding festivals, the stunning Apsaras beautifully danced to the tune of music of Gandharvas, the melodious music echoed resembled the sounds of Cuckoos. King Janaka’s joy was beyond description as if the beggar found the most valuable treasure. The anxiousness of Devi Sita vanished, felt extremely delighted at heart like the Chakora at the sight of the autumn moon. King Janaka prostrated before Sage Vishwamithra and spoke “Oh! Bhagavan, it was your auspicious grace on Rama that could bend the unyielding Bhavachapa. I am extremely happy to watch the lovely brothers Rama and Lakshman, Oh! Lord, kindly advise me what shall I do?” Maharishi Vishwamithra spoke “Oh! Rajan, listen to me carefully, the marriage of Devi Sita/Siya Swayamvara was taken on the condition of whoever bends the Bhavachapa would achieve her as a wedded wife, thus Rama has successfully completed the task and it was well known to the world, deities, celestials, demons, humans, and Nagas.”

Chapter – 276– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Sage Parashurama eulogizes the splendor of Rama and Lakshman

Sage Parashurama got exhilarated recognizing the might of supreme Lord Rama, his bodily hairs stood upright in extreme joy, his heart burst with various emotions, with folded hands spoke to Rama “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Raghubhamsabhanu, Victory to you! You are the delight to the lotus flowers like the clan of Raghus. Victory to the supreme Lord Rama who swallows the forest fire like the wicked demons! Victory to the benefactor of deities, Brahmins, and cows! Victory to supreme Lord Rama who destroys Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, and Mathshcharya, Ahamkara and Mamakara! Victory to supreme Lord who is the ocean of compassion, kindness, humility, amiability, benevolence, and excellence in speech! Victory to the supreme Lord who has attractive limbs of dark cloud complexion which excels the beauty of millions of Manmatha, and the delight of his devotees! Oh! Prabho, your glories are beyond description, how can I describe them all? Victory to the supreme Lord who is beloved of Lord Shambhu, you resemble the swan that resides in the Manasarovar like the heart of Shambhu! Oh! Prabho, Kindly pardon me for my ignorance, I have uttered disgraceful words on you and your brother without knowing the real nature, you are the abode of mercy, kindly forgive me. Victory to the Lord of Raghu and his clan!” Thus, Sage Parashurama, Lord of Bhrigus praising the splendor of Rama and Lakshman, returned to dense woods to conduct austerities and Tapasya. The wicked Kings and Princes assembled in the grand hall of King Janaka started to flee into different directions in extreme fear.

Chapter – 275– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– The powerful bow of Sage Parashurama readily slides on the hands of Rama

Rama spoke amiably “Oh! Bhagavan, Lord of Bhrugs, kindly listen to my truthful words, I respect you wholeheartedly as a twice-born/ Bhramin, and you are the most valiant known to the world for your heroic deeds, I was not bowing my head before you out of fear, I respect and honor twice-born, is dear to my life. Oh! Prabho, I would gladly accept the challenge from anyone who possesses might equivalent to mine or superior to mine, whether it is a demon, deity, human, King or warrior, even the Lord of Death. The Kshatriya born in illustrious lineage refrain from battle is utterly disgraceful, it will bring shame to his clan. Oh! Prabho, I have high reverence to my clan, the Raghus are not afraid to fight with even the Lord of death, you are an illustrious Bhramin, I honor you and respect you, as a born Kshatriya I gracefully accept your challenge.” Sage Parashurama disenchanted listening to the profound words of Rama, replied “Oh! Rama, get hold of this bow of Lord Sri Hari and fasten it so that all our doubts get cleared.” The powerful bow of Parashurama readily slipped to the hands of Rama after the mere utterance of his word, Sage Parashurama felt astounded watching it.

Chapter – 274– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Sage Parashurama’s heated argument with Rama

Rama amiably addressed the Sage several times, but the illustrious Sage of Bhriguvamsamani exclaimed in fury “You are extremely talented as your younger brother, let me explain to you I am not that just Bhramin, my bows are ladle used for sacrificial fire, the arrows are oblation to the fire sacrifice, and my wrath is colossal fire, and the fourfold forces chariot, horse, elephant, and warriors are fuel added to the blaze. There were several Kshatriyas had been victim to my wrath and powerful ax, with their blood I have offered homage to my ancestors. Oh! Rama, I have performed millions of the above-mentioned sacrifices, with my Tapasya, austerities, and skill in the usage of armaments. You do not know my history, that’s why you have addressed me as a revered Bhramin. You have broken the glorious Bhavachapa, in this way you have proved your arrogance to the world, you have crossed all your limits, and displayed yourself as valorous before the huge crowd.” Rama replied “Oh! Prabho, kindly take control of your words, your anger has crossed the limits, Oh! Prabho, I have no reason to be proud of my valor, the Bhavachapa was already worn out settled in the cradle while lifting it broken into two halves.”

Chapter – 273 (1) – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Rama describes the splendor of Sage Parashurama

Rama spoke politely “Oh! Bhagavan, how can I fight with my preceptor, there wouldn’t be a fight with preceptor and disciple, hence kindly give up your anger. Oh! Bipravara,/illustrious Bhramin, my younger brother after taking notice of your saffron robe, wielded in bow, arrow, and ax assumed you as a great warrior, did not perceive your real nature, therefore he cannot be held blame for it. Oh! Prabho, your mighty stature, well-built physique, armed in ax, bow, and arrow, my brother considered you as a mighty warrior and got excited, although he had heard of your prowess, and legends, he did not recognize you thoroughly, hence he spoke harsh words full of toxin that he has inherited from his lineage. Oh! Prabho, if he had perceived you as a Sage, he would have prostrated before you and adore the dust particle from your feet on his head. Oh! Prabho, you are too compassionate and kind, forgive my brother for his mistake, it was not a deliberate attempt. Oh! Prabho, how shall I explain your glories, are we different from each other? We are inseparable, my name is ‘Rama’ and yours is ‘Parashurama’. Oh! Prabho, the bow you are wielded is mine, you have nine auspicious symbols in you, those represent tranquility, restraint, penance, purity, forbearance, truthfulness, wisdom, and supreme knowledge and devotion. Oh! Prabho, I am inferior to you, cannot compare myself with you. Oh! Bhagavan, kindly pardon us.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – Parashurama’s fury and Rama’s amiable replies

Chapter – 273– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Parashurama’s fury and Rama’s amiable answer

Sage Parasurama spoke to Rama in utter fury “Oh! Rama, are you giving me a lesson after bending the glorious bow of Lord Shiva? You have conveniently explained the misdemeanor of your younger brother as children’s amusement, with your pleasant words and actions of bowing head before me. If you are Raghuvamsamani/Jewel of the clan of Raghu, Rama comes forward to have a battle with me. Oh! Shivadhrohi, do not adapt to any tricks on me, or my wrath on you and your brother would be enough to finish you both.” Thus, Sage Parashurama in extreme rage raised his ax in the air, Rama smiled at heart, bow his head before the sage, and spoke amiably “Oh! Bhagavan, you had heated arguments and wrath on my younger brother, all that turned against me. I feel the humility also can be troublesome at times, goodness gets unnoticed, the crescent moon does not do any harm to Rahu, it is the other way round that causes afflictions. Oh! Lord of Sages, kindly leave your anger, the powerful ax is in your hand, and my head bowed before you, Oh! Prabho, do whatever as you please to get freed from your anger, kindly understand that I am your sincere servant.”
