Chapter – 226– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha, and Shathrughna follows Guha to the dense forest in search of the hermitage of Rama

The deities were cheered listening to the compassionate speeches of Lord Rama and his affection towards Bharatha. The deities eulogized, “Who is gracious than the supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra? If Bharatha was not born in the illustrious clan of Raghu's, who would be virtuous on the Earth other than Lord Rama? Bharatha’s virtues, amiability, and devotion were beyond the description of the poets.” The divine voice was heard to Lakshman, Rama, and Devi Sita brought immense delight. In the meantime, Bharatha and the people of Ayodhya took a holy dip in the river Mandakini, received permission from mothers, and preceptors, and Sumanthra, further instructed the people to stay safe on the riverside. Bharatha and Shathrughna along with Guha went in search for the hermitage of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita. Bharatha and Shathrughna followed the Nishadharaja Guha into dense wood, Bharatha was embarrassed and feeling guilty thinking about the cruelty of his mother to Rama, and Devi Sita, and prayed “The Almighty Lord should not allow Rama to leave the palace, or move away from me, due to the deceitfulness of my mother.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Lord Rama praising the virtues of Bharatha

Chapter – 225– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Lord Rama praising the virtues of Bharatha

Rama spoke “Oh! Lakshman, listen to me carefully, Bharatha would never get intoxicated with the newly attained status of King of Ayodhya, even if he attains the status of Lord Bhrama, Vishnu, or Shiva. Oh! Brother, how could a few drops of a sour and savory drink spoil the entire ocean? Oh! Dear Brother, the darkness may swallow the sunlight, the heaven may get absorbed by the cloud, Sage Agasthya/Kumbaja who dried up the ocean in one gulp may get drowned in the water collected in the hooves of cows, the Mother Earth who is well known for her endurance may give up her patience, the golden mountain Meru may get puffed off in the windblown from the mouth of the mosquito, but Bharatha will not get intoxicated by the Kingly duties. Oh! Lakshman, I promise you upon our father, that no brother is virtuous and innocent as Bharatha in this world. Oh! Dear brother, the Universe is created with the goodness of milk and evilness of water, and Bharatha is the Swan who skillfully separates evilness from goodness. Bharatha is the swan born in the illustrious clan of Raghu's, he has chosen goodness of milk from the evilness of water, thus he has illuminated the Universe with his glory.” Further, Lord of Raghu transported to the state of bliss while praising the virtues, amiability, kindness, devotion of Bharatha.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Rama and Devi Sita praises the virtues of Bharatha

Chapter – 224– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama and Devi Sita praises the virtues of Bharatha

The fourteen spheres quivered listening to the promise of Lakshman, the rulers on the Earth flee in panic, the whole world doomed in extreme fear and despair, soon a voice was heard in the sky “Oh! Dear child, who is not aware of your glory and the might of your arms? Before getting into action, one must give a close observation of whether it is right or wrong, then everyone would approve it. The Veda and Sages emphasize that the ignorant Jeeva who act impulsively without giving much thought of action would grieve over it.” Lakshman was abashed to hear the divine voice, shortly Rama and Devi Sita greeted Lakshman “Oh! Dear Lakshman, what you have told is right, fame and power may take away the wisdom, and that too whoever tasted the power of fame would lose their intellect and wisdom, not the one who prefers to be in the association of ascetics.  Oh! Lakshman, I shall tell you the truth, I have not seen anyone as good as Bharatha in God’s creation in the Universe.”

Chapter – 223 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Lakshman promise to fight against Bharatha and Shathrughna, and kill them on the battlefield

Lakshman spoke fervently “Oh! Prabho, I have been born as Kshatriya in the illustrious clan of Raghus, the whole world knows that I am your servant, how can I keep quiet watching the rudeness of Bharatha? Oh! Prabho, even the dust particles cannot raise without your command.  Your might is capable to puff off your enemies into dust.” Thus Lakshman stood with folded hands before Rama as if seeking permission to encounter Bharatha, like the heroic sentiment of Lakshman woke up from the deep sleep. He tightened the matted hair on the pinnacle, fastened the quiver on his waist, wielded bow on the shoulder, and took an arrow in his hand “Oh! Prabho kindly permits me to teach a lesson to Bharatha on the battlefield, and prove myself as the servant of Rama. The two brothers will face the result of animosity against my Lord Rama, they both meet their terrible death on the battlefield. It is good that he has brought an entire army of the Kingdom, I can exhibit my fury to them in one place. I shall meet them collectively; one lion is enough to meet the herd of elephants, I shall overthrow Bharatha and his younger brother Shathrughna and their people in the battlefield, even Lord Shankara stood beside them for his help, I promise on Lord Rama, I won’t let the enemies of Rama win over in the battlefield.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Lakshman got raged and asking for permission to fight against Bharatha and Shathrughna

Chapter – 222– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Lakshman got raged asking for permission to fight against Bharatha and Shathrughna

The Veda and scriptures describe the immoral deeds of Lord Chandra against the wife of Sage Bhrihaspathi, and the arrogance of King Nahusha who was established as Lord Indra fallen for the beauty of Devi Sachi, and instructed the illustrious Rishis to carry his palanquin to meet her, ended up in the curse. The legend of wicked King Vena who met his destruction at the ‘Humkara’ of the Sages. The King Sahasrabhahu, Lord Indra, and King Thrishankhu who is the father of Harishchandra all has brought illreputation due to their fame and power. Bharatha achieved the throne of Ayodhya in a unique circumstance, hence one should not misjudge or leave the trace of enemy and debt, Bharatha made a mistake considering you as his threat, for that he will realize his mistake when he beholds your lotus feet on the battlefield.” Lakshman spoke the truthful words, forgetting his love for his brother and family, “Oh! Prabho, kindly do not mistake me, Bharatha has stirred my anger to a great extent, how shall I endure this while the grace of my Lord is with me, and I have powerful bow and arrows in my hands.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Lakshman suspects the arrival of Bharatha and Shathrughna with the four-fold army

Chapter – 221– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Lakshman suspects the arrival of Bharatha and Shathrughna with the four-fold army

Lakshman spoke “Oh! Prabho, you are truthful, wise, the storehouse of virtues, and the ocean of mercy, hence you easily love and trust everyone, get pleased with everyone, and consider them as an inseparable part of you. The dull-minded Jeeva, gets drenched in Ahamkara, Mamakara, Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha and Mathshcharya, chase after material pleasures richness, wealth, possession, fame, money, children, wife, companion and relatives, etc. forgetting the nature of ‘self’/Athma is Paramathma. Bharatha is righteous, truthful, virtuous, and the whole world knows the pure love and devotion of Bharatha at your lotus feet. Oh! Prabho, you are the legal hire to the throne, but Bharatha has attained the status of the King of Ayodhya now, that might have changed the righteousness in him, and you are alone in the forest, he might have thought of taking advantage of the situation while you are all alone in the forest, he must have structured some evil plans to harm you to confirm his status as the King of Ayodya, that was the reason the two brothers have brought a four-fold army to the forest. If not, why should they bring chariots, horses, elephants, and the army of men? Why should I blame Bharatha? it is quite natural that the people who achieve immense fame and might would turn aggressive and arrogant.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Rama was informed about the arrival of Bharatha and Shathrughna with the four folds of army

Chapter – 220– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama was informed about the arrival of Bharatha and Shathrughna with the four folds of army

Rama after performing the morning rite, worshipping Lord Tripurari, offering salutations to the hermits, he took a seat facing the north direction. The atmosphere was foggy, the birds and animals were panic-stricken rushed towards the hermitage of Lord Rama. Sage Tulsidas narrates, Rama stood up watching the large crowd of Kola, Kiratha, Bhila, he was astounded watching the sudden changes in the atmosphere, the tribal people explained all that they have witnessed to Rama which brought immense delight to his heart. A sudden rush of thrill and joy was experienced by Rama, Sage Tulsidas describes the lotus-like beautiful eyes of Rama filled with tears of love. The next moment he was pushed into extreme anxiousness “What would be the purpose of the arrival of Bharatha to the woods?” soon someone informed Rama “Bharatha has brought four folds of the army with him to the forest.” Rama was disturbed to listen to all those. Rama remembered the promise given to his father, and the love for his younger brother Bharatha put him in a state of uneasiness. Rama was well aware of the discipline, virtues, amiability, and disposition of Bharatha, which removed the little bit of anxiousness in him. Lakshman noticed the slightest change on the face of Rama, spoke the words of bravery “Oh! Lord, you are Sarbagya Shiromani/knower of all, I am your servant, I may make bold comments without asking for an opinion, I believe a servant should be vigilant at all times for the welfare and safety of Master.”
