Chapter – 179 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha assigned the duty  to safeguard the treasures  of the palace to the loyal attendants

The people assembled were voiced “Perish that family, children, parents, elderly, father, mother, brother, companion who does not cultivate devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra.” Soon all the homes were lit up with joy and preparation for the journey, several colorful vehicles were kept ready to travel, and the people anxiously waited for the sunrise. Bharatha after returning to his fortress immersed in serious thoughts “The city, treasures, army, horses, palace, elephants, valuables, etc. everything belongs to Rama, if I leave it unprotected it will not do good for him, I may incur the grave sin of dishonesty to my Master, Lord of Raghus. A sincere servant should serve the master with utmost honesty for the welfare of the Master, hence no matter if anyone speaks ill about me.” Soon Bharatha summoned the sincere servants of the palace who never dreamt of flinch from duty, and discussed the most important details of the treasures and possessions of the Kingdom, and taught them how to protect them without causing any harm to it. Bharatha entrusted all the duties to the loyal servants of the Kingdom and went to meet mother Kausalya.

The preceptors replied “Oh! Dear son, you have brought out a good idea, we shall proceed to the woods at the earliest to meet Rama. Oh! Bharatha, in fact, you have stretched out your hands to protect us from the grief of the ocean while we were drowning in it due to the separation from Rama.” The whole people in the assembly were drenched in joy and peace, like the Chathaka, Chakora, Chakravaha, and peacock get rejoiced watching the rain clouds. The very idea to leave to the woods in the early hours of dawn was very much appreciated and welcomed by all, and everyone praised Bharatha for his devotion and pure love to Rama. The members of the assembly bowed their heads before the preceptors, congratulated Bharatha, and left to their homes happily, on their way they exclaimed “Bharatha’s life is truly fortunate. We have accomplished a great task with his pure love and devotion to Rama” they continued to praise the amiability and wise deeds of Bharatha. The people returned home from the assembly made preparations for their journey, instructed the elderly to take care of homes in their absence, and some people advised no one should be left behind in the city from traveling to woods, everyone has to attain the fruitless in their live by mere witnessing Lord Rama along with Devi Sita and Lakshman.

Chapter – 177 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The entire assembly praises Bharatha for his devotion at the lotus feet of Rama

Bharatha spoke “Oh! Mahatma, although I have been born to a wicked mother, and consider myself as evil and deceitful as my mother responsible for all the troubles, I am confident that the Lord of Raghu Rama will not abandon me.” All those ministers, preceptors, prominent members in the Kingdom assembled in the huge Hall were overwhelmed with various emotions at the pure love and devotion of Bharatha. The people who had been burning with the pain of separation from Rama assumed the innocent and wise words of Bharatha as Beejamanthra/sacred syllables.  The members of the assembly, mothers, and preceptors praised Bharatha for his pure love and sincere devotion to Rama “Oh! Beloved son, you are the embodiment of devotion and pure love at the lotus feet of Rama/Bhakti, you are dear as life to Rama, hence it is not surprising that you have spoken such a marvelous word revealing your devotion to Rama. Oh! Dear son, the ignorant may suspect you because of your mother’s crookedness. Oh! Son, whoever blame you for the adversities that taken place in the Kingdom of Ayodhya would reap the hellish torture for hundreds of Kalpa, with their several generations. The gem on the forehead of a snake is not impure as it was carried by the venomous serpent, in fact, the gem is capable to remove the poison and destroy the burns into ashes.”

Chapter – 176 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha requests the preceptors and members of the assembly to grant permission to leave to woods

Bharatha spoke in tears “ Oh! Mahathma, I shall bow my head before your lotus feet, I have poured out my distress in words before you, therefore until and unless I behold the feet of Lord Rama, I won’t get relieved from the distress. I have found no other way to get relieved from my grief, the Chief of Raghu Lord Rama knows the state of my mind, hence no one could provide peace to me other than him. At the daybreak, I shall proceed to the woods to meet my Lord Rama. Even though I have born to a wicked mother, and the root cause of all the troubles, I am certain that the compassionate Lord Rama would forgive all my fault and shower an abundance of grace. The Lord of Raghu is the essence of kindness, compassion, love, amiability, and innocence, he does not hurt even his enemies, I am merely a child of Rama and a sincere servant of him. Therefore, kindly allow me to proceed to the woods, and shower your blessings upon me, knowing that all that going to be good for all. Oh! Mahathma, kindly recognize me as a sincere servant of Rama, I assure you I shall return with him to the capital city.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Bharatha feels guilty of his birth as a son to Devi Kaikeyi

Chapter – 175 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha feels guilty of his birth as a son to Devi Kaikeyi

Bharatha spoke gravely “ Oh! Mahathma, Devi Kausalya is most guileless, pure, and affectionate to me, she has showered an abundance of affection under the impulse of natural love for me watching me in extreme distress. My preceptor the illustrious Sage Vashishta who is the ocean of wisdom, and Sarbagya/knower of all, he too prepared to crown me as the King of Ayodhya, when the fate is adverse eventually everyone turns hostile too. No one would admit that I have no involvement in plotting against my brother, except Rama and Devi Sita. I have to listen to it and survive, where there is water, you can expect the mud too. I do not get anxious about what others may say, and have little anxiety about the afterlife. All that worries me about the troubles and hardships that Rama and Devi Sita have to undergo in the woods, it ripping off my heart into pieces. My beloved brother Lakshman has achieved the fruitfulness of his life by serving Rama and Devi Sita. He had abandoned the stately pleasures and followed Rama and Devi Sita. I was born to cause affliction on Rama, exiled him to the woods, hence my birth is vain.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Bharatha convince everyone that he is not qualified to rule the Kingdom of Ayodhya

Chapter – 174 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha convince everyone that he is not qualified to rule the Kingdom of Ayodhya

Bharatha spoke grimly “Oh! Mahatma, is there any use to serve a person who is under the evil influence of the planet, distressed, confused, has been stung by the scorpion was served with a cup of wine? Would it help the person to recover? The Almighty Lord has ordained me to be born as the son of Devi Kaikeyi, fortunately, I have achieved the honor to become the son of the righteous King Dhasharatha and brother to virtuous Rama, Lakshman, and Shathrughna. How could you wish me to accept the Kingdom which was ordained by the King? How shall I convince you individually that I have been born to a wicked woman? How shall I qualify as the King of Ayodhya? Who is hostile to Lord Rama and Devi Sita in the whole Universe, except me? It is unfortunate that all of you feel appropriate to crown me as the King of Ayodhya, and no one to blame for it, because all of you are too innocent, amiable, kind, and compassionate.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Bharatha expresses his grief and reveals himself as impure as he was born from the womb of Devi Kaikeyi

Chapter – 173 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha expresses his grief and reveals himself as impure as he was born from the womb of Devi Kaikeyi

Bharatha spoke grimly “ Oh! Mahathma, the effect is severer than the cause, like the thunderbolt is harder than the weapon made out of bones, and iron is harder than the rock. I am unfortunate to hold on to this body which was given by Devi Kaikeyi, even after the separation from my beloved brother Rama, still I am holding on to my Prana dearer than my elder brother. Devi Kaikeyi exiled Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita to the woods, and delivered her husband to the abode of deities, she has brought widowhood to herself and brought disaster to the family, and to the entire Kingdom, in this way, she has afflicted everyone and brought unhappiness to the thriving Kingdom, she has served everyone at her will. I cannot expect any goodness in this, on top of this, all of you want to perform my crowning  as the King of Ayodhya. Since I have born from the womb of Devi Kaikeyi, I have no goodness in life, the destiny has played its role and shoved me to distress, why do you want to add up my burden?”
