The clouds protected the Lord from the scorching heat of the Sun, the deities showered flowers on Rama, Lakshman and Devi Sita, and admiringly watched Lord Rama walking on the Earth, showering compassionate grace at the mountains, hills, birds, animals, etc. Whenever they cross the village, the villagers assemble in large numbers including the elderly people leaving their household duties, and earnestly behold the beauty of Rama, Lakshman and Devi Sita achieved the fruitfulness of their lives, felt relieved from all grief and pain of worldly existence/Bhavadhukha/Samsaradukha. They were stood motionless, mesmerized in a state of ecstasy, tears overflowing, which is difficult to describe, like the pauper stumbled upon the pile of Chinthamani/precious jewel. Moreover, they have invited their friends and relatives to achieve the reward of their eyes, some of them could not take away their eyes from the couple, hence they followed them to a fair distance, and others perceived the marvelous image of Rama Devi Sita and Lakshman, through the doors of their eyes, safely installed the image in their hearts and locked it, they were won over by word, mind, and deed.

The travelers offered help to Lord Rama who is the ocean of mercy, with the tears in their eyes requested the Lord to allow them to follow to the woods, out of intense love and devotion were refused gracefully by the Lord with the pleasing words. The deities and Naga envied at the villages and the villagers who have achieved the fortune to witness Rama, Lakshman and Devi Sita. The presiding deities of the villages spoke to one another “The village and the villagers are highly fortunate to witness the supreme Bhramam personified as Rama.” The lands were Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita walked on the Earth achieved great splendor than the celestial abode Amaravathi of deities, the land that held the footprints of Rama remains beyond description. The villagers and virtuous souls abundantly praised the attractive dark cloud complexioned blue limbs of Lord Sri Ramachandra, and his consort Devi Sita who is the epitome of beauty, virtue, and fortune, and their younger brother Lakshman. The lakes, rivers, and streams in the celestial abode envied on the ponds, rivers where Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita took a holy dip. The trees where Lord Rama, along with Devi Sita and Lakshman has taken shelter was envied by the celestial trees/Kalpatharu and Parijatha. The mother Earth who has achieved the fortune to hold the footprints of Rama considered herself as the most fortunate in the Universe.

The Lord of Raghu praised Guha for his pure love and devotion and advised him to leave to his village Shringaberipura, thus Guha returned to his village at the command of the Lord. Rama, Devi Sita, and Lakshman prostrated before Devi Yamuna who is the daughter of Lord Surya, further accompanied by Devi Sita and Lakshman, proceeded to the dense wood. On their way, they met a few travelers who were beholding the beauty of Rama and Lakshman, exclaimed “Oh! Noble souls, we feel terribly ill watching the three of you walking on the rough pathways of the woods, we could perceive the divine symbols which you hold, watching the footprints that holds the divine symbols we could envisage your own celestial vehicles, it is causing trouble to our mind. The pathways are unapproachable, difficult to cross, moreover, you have a beautiful young and delicate woman accompanies you. The forest is inhabited by wild animals and dreadful creatures. We are happy to follow you if you allow us to do so, we will happily follow you as long as you allow us and we will return bowing our heads before you.”

Chapter – 111– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– A young hermit arrives to meet Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita on the riverbank of Yamuna

 

As soon as the young ascetic saw the supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra, his beloved Lord, a sudden rush of joy ran through his limbs, eyes overflown with tears, threw his body at the lotus feet of the Lord, and prostrated, the state of his mind and body was beyond description. The young sage was raptured in a state of ecstasy like the pauper achieved the treasure, Rama raised him from the ground and embraced him tightly, then he has fallen at the feet of Lakshman, who raised the young sage from the ground and embraced him with extreme love. He prostrated before Devi Sita reverentially, and took a handful of dust from the footsteps of Devi Sita and adorned it on his forehead, Devi Sita realized him as her own child and blessed him. The Nishadharaja Guha prostrated at the feet of the young Sage, realizing him as beloved of Lord Rama. The hermit embraced Guha knowing him as a sincere servant of Rama. The hermit beholds the beauty of his beloved Lord, devours his beauty with the eyes, like a hungry soul achieved a sumptuous meal after a long period of time. The men and women assembled before Lord Rama behold the beauty of the three and wept over the grief of the King and the queen mothers who have left their dear children to woods.

Rama followed by the disciples of Sage Bharadhwaja arrived on the riverbank of Yamuna, he reverentially sends off the disciple who has achieved the fruitfulness of their lives. He crossed river Yamuna and took a bath in the dark waters of the Yamuna that has a close resemblance to his limbs. The people living close to the riverbank heard the news of the arrival of handsome princes of Ayodhya, soon they left their work, and family and rushed to meet the Lord, they behold the beauty of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita, and praised their fortune. Their hearts were brimming with love and devotion, but they were shy to enquire the name and details of the visitors. The wise ones recognized the supreme Bhramam personified as Rama the son of Dasaratha, further they described the virtues of Lord Sri Ramachandra who sincerely followed the command of his father and abandoned all the stately pleasures and proceeded to the woods. The people who listened to the legend of Rama were grieved and lamented “The decision of the King and the Queen are not a fair one to their children.” In the meantime, there arrived a saint who has a great effulgence, young and charming appearance. His actions were difficult to describe for the poet, he was attired in a saffron robe, lived a life of a hermit, and was a great devotee of Rama by words, actions, and thoughts.

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Mune, that day Rama halted in the hermitage of Sage Bharadhwaja, at the early hours of daybreak, he took ablutions in Theertharaj Prayaga on the auspicious confluence of Ganga and Yamuna offered humble salutation to the Sage, and spoke in a soft tone “Oh! Mahathma, kindly advise me which route should I proceed my journey?’ The Sage smiled at heart and replied “Oh! Prabho, all routes are familiar to you, and everything is accessible to you.” Soon Sage Bharadhwaja called for his disciple and instructed them to lead Rama to the woods, a fifty of them gathered before Rama, each one was thrilled to follow Rama to the woods, everyone replied in chorus their willingness to join with Rama. Finally, Sage Bharadhwaja has chosen four virtuous disciples who has practiced several austerities and achieved immense piousness in their several births to follow Rama to the woods. Rama prostrated before the Sage, after receiving his permission proceeded journey with great pleasure along with Devi Sita, Lakshman, and Guha to the woods. While they were crossing villages, the men, women, children, and elderly people of the village gazed at them in deep admiration, thus, they have achieved the fruitfulness of their birth, and returned to their homes unwillingly.

Sage Bharadhwaja spoke fervently “Oh! Prabho, Jeeva cannot experience happiness or dream of it until and unless they are devoted to you by words, mind, and deeds. Oh! Prabho, any deeds or Kriya without pure love and devotion at your lotus feet is unfruitful." Rama felt shy listening to the praise of Sage Bharadhwaja, felt immensely happy at the devotion of the Sage. The chief of Raghu spoke amiably “Oh! Highly revered sage, he is the essence of virtues, he is the reservoir of auspiciousness and happiness.” In great joy, they put a pause to the praise of the supreme Bhramam personified as Rama. Soon the whole of Prayagaraja spread the news of the arrival of two charming princes of King Dhasharatha, shortly the people of Prayaga, ascetics, elderly people, children, men, and women gathered to meet the princes of Ayodhya in the hermitage of Sage Bharadhwaja. Lord Rama greeted the crowd with a pleasing smile, and the crowd assembled were achieved the fruitfulness of their eyes. The ascetics, noble souls have blessed the princes with great joy, and devour the beauty of the two princes with their fortunate eyes.
