Manathara spoke vehemently “You would be like the unfortunate Vinatha who was persecuted by Kadhru, the mother of serpent race, in the same manner, Devi Kausalya would dictate you, treat you as her servant after the coronation ceremony of Rama as the King of Ayodhya. Finally, Bharatha would be thrown into prison and tortured for no reason, and Lakshman would serve the newly crowned King Rama.” Devi Kaikeyi, daughter of Kaikeya shriveled listening to the most horrific predictions of Manthara after coronation of Rama, she could not utter a word out of anxiousness, her body quivered like the plantain tree, drenched in perspiration and agony. The wicked hunch-back, bit her tongue looking at the pathetic state of the queen, understood her traitorous act worked very well on Devi Kaikeyi, the way she has portrayed Bharatha and the queen had shaken the world before the queen. Manthara continued to fill the ears of Devi Kaikeyi with the miserable stories of the queens in the royal families and comforted the queen to be courageous and fight for her right. At last, Manthara succeeded in her plan to change the mind of Devi Kaikeyi completely, the queen has mistaken the heron as a swan, considered Manthara as a loyal servant, and praised her intelligence “Oh! Manthara, whatever told are absolutely right, I have been witnessing the bad omens for the last few days, my right part of the limb is trembling, I have been troubled by nightmares for the past few days, but I didn’t mention it to you. Oh! Manthara, I did not dream of anyone devious against me, I am innocent by nature, I cannot distinguish a friend and foe.”

The wicked hunch-back Manthara who is skilled in creating trouble discreetly influenced the queen Devi Kaikeyi with several mischievous stories related to the wives of Kings who were victimized in the families,  and the stories of jealousy and crookedness among the women in the royal families. It was unfortunate, Devi Kaikeyi kept great trust in sinful Manthra who continued aggressively “Oh! Devi, it is strange that you are not aware of the upcoming coronation ceremony of Rama as the King of Ayodhya. What do you know about the happenings in the Kingdom? Even the dull people know what’s happening around them, and know what’s good or bad, the preparation for the ceremony has been begun from the last fortnight, alas! you came to know about the ceremony from me today. Oh! Devi, I get my food and clothing from serving you, so I have spoken the truth to you, and you can’t blame me for that. If I speak lie to you, that would be awful, Almighty God will punish me. Anyways, it was God’s willing, the ceremony of coronation of Rama as the King of Ayodhya was disposed of, and He has sown the seeds of your misfortune. Oh! Devi, I swear to God and affirm you that you have been discarded from the royal family, like the fly from the milk. Oh! Lady, the coronation ceremony of Rama would change the status of you and your son Bharatha, both would remain as a servant in the family, sometimes you may be allowed to live in the fortress, otherwise not.”

Manthara spoke “Oh! Devi Kaikeyi, you are innocent, you were living a happy and comfortable life under the wrong impression that your husband is favorable to you, but your King has possessed a sweet tongue and a malicious mind. Rama’s mother Devi Kausalya is clever, taken the advantage of King’s love, and turned the opportunity most favorable to her. Who knows, it must be the mischievous plan of Devi Kausalya to send Bharatha to his maternal uncle’s Kingdom, she must be jealous of your closeness to the King, the rest of the queens are ready to serve Devi Kausalya, you are the proud one, have more influence on the King. Oh! Mother, Devi Kausalya must have conceived the plan beforehand, she is too secretive and smart. The King is particularly fond of you, that might have annoyed Devi Kausalya and is quite natural in the royal families. Devi Kausalya must have persuaded the King to perform the coronation of Rama as the King of Ayodhya, and to follow all the rites according to family custom, so that it would bring fame to herself and her son. I however refrain from thinking the consequences of it, whoever planted the mischievous deeds would suffer from it.”

Devi Kaikeyi who was susceptible by the influence of Maya, listening to the words of deceitful yet affectionate of Manthara, began to repose her trust on the hunch back, like an enemy is mistaken as the friend. Devi Kaikeyi repeatedly questioned Manthara to reveal the truth, she was already hypnotized by the wicked hunch back with her gullible words, like the doe fascinated by the charming music of Bhila.  Manthara was pleased to see her plans to overthrow the fate of the people of Ayodhya and their happiness is getting accomplished, found that Devi Kaikeyi is weak, her reasoning capacity has gone forever, she was terribly confused to understand what’s happening before her at this moment. Manthara pretend to be naïve and spoke “Oh! Devi, I am afraid to speak anything now, you are compelling me so I shall continue to speak, any way you have given me the name of a traitor in the royal family.” Manthara ensured she had completely manipulated the queen’s mind, and began to speak in a pleasing manner so that the queen does not get a clue of upcoming disaster, in the meantime, Manthara who resembled the evil effect of the planet Saturn for seven and half years on Ayodhya, began to speak in a most loyal spirit to the queen “Oh! Devi, just now you have uttered Rama and Sita are dear as life to you, and you have completely surrendered yourself to Rama, that’s true to my knowledge. Oh! Devi, all that happened was in the past, everything has changed, a friend can be a foe in no time. The sunlight is essential to bloom lotus flowers, as the water, otherwise, would wither quickly. Devi Kausalya may cause mishap to you, she may strike you from the root of your very existence in the royal family if you are not protected well by yourself.”

Devi Kaikeyi spoke passionately “Oh! Manthara, I urge you to promise on Bharatha, leave all your cunningness and tell me the truth, why are you so upset about the whole happening while the subjects of the Kingdom are rejoicing at the coronation of Rama as the King of Ayodhya? What is the reason for your grief at the moment of celebration in the Kingdom?” Manthara began to speak fervently “Oh! Devi Kaikeyi, I have fulfilled all my desires though I have uttered once, I shall continue to speak, my ill-fated head is deserved to be smashed if you have offended with my sharp words. Oh! Devi Kaikeyi, you have grown a favorite of people who speak sweet words, not the ones who have the courage to speak right is right, and wrong is wrong, hence I am disagreeable to you. I have decided from this day onwards, I will speak only words which are favorable for my Master and mistress, otherwise, I will keep silent for twenty-four hours. God has given me a hunch on back, an ugly appearance, and made me dependent on others, it is true that one has to reap the fruit sown, whatever is given has to come back. Oh! Devi, whoever may be the ruler of Ayodhya, my status as a maidservant will not change, can’t be queen overnight. I have nothing to lose, it was my pitiable nature, I could not stand watching your ill fortune, I can’t be kept quiet when you get offended, I can’t bear watching you in trouble, that was the reason I have brought the topic of the coronation of Rama and shed tears before you. Oh! Devi, kindly forgive me, it was my foolishness to speak ill about Rama and the family.”

Devi Kaikeyi spoke purposefully “Oh! Manthara, the crooked-eyed, lame and hunch-back people are willful, and malicious by nature, if it was woman folks who have attained all these features, the damage will be high, that too if they are born in the lower class.” Devi Kaikeyi began to speak softly “Oh! Priyabadhani/sweet-tongued, I have uttered all those to keep you cautious, it was advice, I cannot even dream of getting angry at you.  Oh! Manthara, if your words are true, then the day of the coronation of Rama as the King of Ayodhya would be the most auspicious, and it would bring all the happiness and welfare to the Universe. The blessed custom of the solar race is that the eldest would adorn the throne and the younger ones serve the eldest. If the coronation ceremony of Rama takes place tomorrow, I would be the happiest in the Universe, and I would grant whatever you desire because Rama loves all his mothers equally, he has no difference between his mother Devi Kausalaya and his stepmothers, he has innate virtues, all three mothers are dear as his life. He is particularly fond of me, I have had several such occasions experienced his love for me, I have put him on several tests and he has proved successful. I would be the most fortunate if God has promised me to offer Rama as my son and Sita as my daughter-in-law. Oh! Manthara listen to me carefully, Rama is dear as life to me, why did you get perturbed at the news of the coronation ceremony of Rama as the King of Ayodhya?”

Devi Kaikeyi who was not aware of her misfortune spoke innocently “Oh! Manthara, why are you not uttering a word? I hope Rama and his father, Lakshman, Bharatha, and Ripudhamana are doing well? Have you heard about them?” The hunch back was pained at heart to watch the innocence of Devi Kaikeyi.  Manthara shrieked out of anger “Why should I turn to be mischievous? And for whom? Today no one is happier than Rama who is going to be the future King of Ayodhya and will be invested with the regime followed by the performance of coronation ceremony tomorrow morning, and one more person, Devi Kausalya who is the mother of Rama, attained the highest of the fortune, must be proud to expose herself as the Queen Mother. Why do not you go and watch them all? I have got agitated watching all these, because your son is away from the Kingdom, and you are the one taking pleasure under the rich quilt on the luxurious bed all the time, under the notion that your King is under your control, will obey all your orders. You are too involved in your luxuries and sleep; hence you are unable to detect the cunningness of your King.” Devi Kaikeyi spoke irritably, after listening to the malicious yet affectionate words favoring her “Oh! Hunch-back, how could you become so jealous, keep quiet do not an utter a word against the royal family, if you do so, sowing seedings of mistrust and jealousy in the family in which you are skilled at, I may pull out your tongue.”
