Chapter – 6– Sri Ramacharitha Manas –
Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Vashishta begins the preparation for the coronation
ceremony of Rama
King Dhasharatha spoke amiably to all those
ministers assembled “I have already met our royal priest and preceptor Sage
Vashishta, and informed about my wish to perform the coronation of Rama, hence
whatever instructions receive from the Sage should be carried out sincerely
without any delay.” Shortly, Sage Vashishta began the preparation for the ceremony,
instructed the ministers to arrange for sacred waters from all the holy lands, further
ordered to collect auspicious items required for the rite, such as sacred
grass, herbs, roots, flowers, fruits, leaves, chowries, deerskin, and draperies
of silk, jewels, gems, etc. and countless items which are considered highly
auspicious required for the coronation ceremony was collected in large
quantities. Sage Vashishta detailed the prescribed rite from the Veda to the King
and Ministers “Kindly erect grand Hall and canopies in large numbers decorated
with gems and ornaments, plantain trees
with bananas, mango tree leaves, and flowers, so that we can accommodate Kings
of neighboring countries and subjects those who arrive to witness the ceremony, draw colorful
Rangolis on the floor with the precious gems, decorate the palace, pathways,
fortresses, homes in the cities, market places, and streets with flowers,
rangoli, plantain, mango leaves, flags, and banners, etc. Begin the worship of
Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, preceptor of the royal family, and the
presiding deities, worship Bhusura/Bhoodevatha, the twice-born/Bhramins/ the
deities on the Earth and offer an abundance of charities.”
