Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – The heated arguments between Lakshman and Sage Parashurama

Chapter – 266– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– The heated arguments between Lakshman and Sage Parashurama

Lakshman continued “Oh! Mune, if I did put your bow and arrows, and ax into shame, kindly pardon me, it was not intentional.” Sage Parashurama after listening to the sharp words Lakshman, began to speak furiously “Oh! Vihwamithra, have you noticed how arrogant his speeches are, he is driving himself to the mouth of death, and bringing destruction to his entire clan? He is completely unruly and reckless as the dark spot in the moon like the Surya dynasty. If he did not stop his harsh speech, surely, he will be pushed to the mouth of death, and I shall pronounce no one should blame me for that, hence protect him and introduce my glory, fury, and prowess to him.” Lakshman spoke “Oh! Bhagavan, how long you will be speaking highly about your splendors? You have glorified yourself more than once with your own tongue, if you want to say it more loudly, I shall listen to it, so that your anger will not devour you. Oh! Mune, you have portrayed yourself as the unconquerable and incomparable hero of the age, it will not add glory to you.”

Chapter – 265– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Lakshman’s harsh speeches on Sage Parashurama

Sage Parashurama continued in extreme rage “Oh! Son, do not bring grief to your parents at this elderly state, you did not know about the history of my powerful axe which has been severed off the heads of several wicked Kshatriyas, and taken away the life of several unborn offspring’s.” Lakshman smiled defiantly and spoke “The illustrious Sage Parashurama considers himself as the most powerful warrior, he flaunts the axe, again and again, to put me off, as if the mere puff of his breath would blow away the Mountain. I am not that pumpkin to wither away from its creeper at the touch of his finger. I have been conversing with you politely, after seeing you wielded in bow and arrow, axe on hand, or I would not have initiated a speech at all. I have understood that you are the descend of illustrious Brighu clan, and adorned in sacred thread across the chest, hence it is ideal to keep away myself from your rage, and listen to you obediently. The Raghu clans never displayed their valour before the deities, twice-born/Bhramins, Mahatmas, saints, Rishis and Sages, devotees of Lord Sri Hari, cows etc. we are thoroughly aware that the misdeeds against them would bring disgrace and grave sins to us. We are prepared to bow down at your feet, even if you strike us with your axe or arrows. Oh! Mune, every single word of you resemble lightning, and it pierces our heart, hence the weapons of bow and arrow, the axe is a burden to you.”

Chapter – 264– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– – Lakshman’s mockery stirs anger in the Sage Parashurama

Sage Parashurama spoke “Oh! Young prince, you are nearing the mouth of death, therefore you have no control over your speeches, would you compare the mighty bow of Lord Shiva well known to the world for its glories, with your childhood toys?” Lakshman replied “Oh! Bhagavan, I consider all the bows are alike, I did not understand what is that huge loss or gain vested in the weather-beaten Bhavachapa? My brother mistook it as the new one, and while pulling it out from the cradle it broken into two pieces, hence you cannot blame my brother Rama for it. Oh! Bhagavan, you are becoming angry for no reason.” Sage Parashurama looked at his ax and thrown a stern look at Lakshman “Oh! Ignorant, have you heard of my temperament? I am leaving you considering as a child, do not invite trouble to you. I have spent all my life in extreme austerities and celibacy, and I have been an opponent of wicked Kshathriyas all my life, and I am unconquerable, and the Kshatriyas have very well known the might of my arms, I have eliminated the wicked ones, and kept the Earth with no Kings to rule, and employed the pious Bhramins who has achieved all the glories of the Earth. Oh! Young prince, look at this powerful ax, it has chopped off a thousand arms of Sahasrabhahu and his pride as well.”

Chapter – 263– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Rama’s pleasant conversation with the Sage Parashurama

Rama, the hero of the Jewel of Raghu clan sensed the situation became grim and the increased anxieties on the faces of King Janaka, Queen, Devi Sita, and the people assembled, he came forward calmly, he was neither happy nor sad, and introduced to Sage Parasurama “Oh! Lord, it was one of your sincere servants who has broken the Bhavachapa, kindly instruct me what to do next.” The calm and serene words of Rama were enough to ignite the fury in the Sage, shrieked in anger “Oh! Rama, a sincere servant is the one who honestly serves his Master, and pleases him with his action, words, and thought. The person who has displayed the role of an enemy should be battled against and overthrown. Oh! Rama, listen to me carefully, whoever broken the Bhavachapa is my enemy, even if it was thousand-armed Karththaveeryarjuna. Hence, the person who has broken the Bhavachapa should face my wrath separately, leaving the crowd in a safe corner. Otherwise, the entire Kingdom and its subjects would face my fury.” Lakshman smiled at the Sage and replied mockingly “I have broken several bows during my childhood days, Oh! Lord, you have never been angry at me, why are you so fond of this Bhavachapa?” The chief of Bhrigu clan burst out in anger.

Chapter – 262– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– The wrath of Sage Parashurama

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Bharadhwaja, once the Sage Parashurama received the initial obeisance, took an inspection of the huge assembly, was aware of all that had happened, he pretends as ignorant, enquired Vidheha “ Oh! Rajan, what was the reason for the huge crowd assembled here?”  his face was drenched in a rage. King Janaka amiably narrated all those incidents that took place in the Dhanush Yajja. Sage Parashurama turned around and looked at the Kings and Princes assembled, suddenly his eyes fell on the Bhavachapa lying on the floor into two halves. Sage Parashurama could not control his fury, shrieked in anger “Oh! Janaka, are you ignorant, who has broken the glorious Bhavachapa? Let me know who did this disgraceful act, otherwise, I will overthrow your Kingdom and its people.” King Janaka stood in utter silence; the wicked Kings rejoiced at the heart thinking of the terrible outcome of the anger of the Sage. Once, again, the deities, Naga, Gandharva, Kinnara, Yaksha, and the people of the Kingdom doomed in extreme anxiousness. The Queen started wailing calling it as the game of the supreme Lord, and when Devi Sita understood the wrath of Sage Parashurama, she was pushed to grief once again, every second seemed Yuga to her.
