Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – The splendor of Lord Kamadeva – The turmoil caused by the presence of Lord Kamadeva, the excessive lust, desire and passion broke all the norms in the world

Chapter – 84– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – The splendor of Lord Kamadeva - The turmoil caused by the presence of Lord Kamadeva, the excessive lust, desire, and passion broken all the norms in the world

Rishi Yajjavalkya speaks “ Oh! Mune, Lord Kamadeva wielded in the magnificent bow and flower arrows of white lotus, Ashoka flower, Mango flowers, Jasmine and blue lotus, arrived with his celestial associates at the spot where Lord Mahadeva was immersed in deep trance, soon his warriors flee into different directions with fear and took shelter in the scriptures hidden in the mountain caves. The arrival of Lord Kamadeva created huge chaos in the world, righteousness and moralities disappeared, Jeeva drenched in lust and desires forgot the knowledge of ‘self, the noble-souls wondered what will happen if it continued for a longer period of time? Who will protect the Jeeva from falling out of moralities and righteousness? Who will protect the Jeeva from the unconquerable Lord Kamadeva who is the consort of Devi Rathi? The living creatures in the Universe gone out of control due to their excessive lust and desire on the opposite gender, males, and females persuaded by the lust approached crazily abandoning all the norms in the society, even the trees and creepers wrapped in attraction towards each other, trees bend down their branches to approach the creepers, not to mention about the living beings. The water-course, rivers gushed towards to meet their consort King of the ocean that created sudden flood and damages, the ponds rivers, lakes and ponds merged together and took great pleasure in it, that caused huge destruction. All the creatures on the Earth, including the demons, birds, animals lost their sense and drenched in lust, finally, the whole world became under the seize of Lord Kamadeva, drenched in lust and desire forgot to keep up the norms. The Chakravaha birds famous for decorum forgot to see day or night, the deities, humans, Kinnara, demons, serpents, spirits, etc. became the slaves of passion, lust, and desire. The Siddhas, Yogis, Munigans who have abandoned the interest in worldly matters, gave up their austerities and penances, drenched in passion and lust. Thus, Lord Kamadeva created huge turmoil on the Earth.”

Chapter – 83– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – The deities appeal to Lord Kamadeva to create an obstacle in the Tapasya of Lord Shambhu – The overinfluence of Kamadeva caused to flee the righteousness from the Earth

The deities collectively appealed to Lord Kamadeva to create an impediment on the Tapasya of Lord Mahadeva undertaken for several thousands of years, Lord Kamadeva smiled at the request of the deities and spoke “Oh! Deities, I do not think the task you have handed to me would bring auspiciousness to me. I don’t see any progress from the hostility against the mighty Lord Shambu. Anyway, I shall carry out the work assigned to me for the welfare of the world, deities, and Sages who are the guardian of the welfare on the Earth, abandoning their own welfare and happiness were always sung in praise by the Veda and Puranas.” Lord Kamadeva was reverentially prostrated before them and left with his celestial companions, all his way he was thinking about the upcoming inauspiciousness involved in the task, and the end results of hostility towards Lord Mahadeva which could bring definite destruction. Soon, Kamadeva remembered the promise to deities, forgot all the virtues, the whole world became under the seize of Kamadeva, the army of wisdom and intellect disappeared from the Earth, the religious vows, self-control, spiritual wisdom, piety, kindness, morality, recitation of Veda, Yoga, meditation everything vanished from the Earth under the powerful influence Lord Kamadeva. The Jeeva’s were excessively affected by passion, lust, and desire, hence, forgot righteousness, moralities, and disciplines, thereby created huge havoc on the Earth.

Chapter – 82– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Lord Bhrama advises the deities to approach Lord Kamadeva– The deities invoke Lord Kamadeva with prayers

Lord Bhrama listened to the miserable cries of the deities who were under constant threat of the demon Tharaka and replied “Oh! Deities, the powerful Demon Tharaka have already got a peculiar boon to die in the hands of the son of Lord Shambhu in a vicious battle, hence Lord Shambhu alone can protect us from the atrocities of Tharakasura. I have heard Devi Sati who underwent self-mortification in the Yogagni of Dhakshaprajapathi was born as Shailarajakumari and undertaking extreme penance and won over the heart of Lord Mahadeva. The supreme Lord Mahadeva who has abandoned the worldly matters at the pain of grief of separation from Devi Sati immersed in Tapasya for several thousands of years. Oh! Deities, approach Kamadeva and request him to create an obstacle to the Tapasya of Lord Mahadeva so that we can approach that mighty Lord with a request to marry Devi Parvathi Girirajakanya, and put an end to the troubles caused by the demon Tharaka, in this way we can restore peace among the deities.” All the deities assembled rejoiced at the opinion of Lord Virinchi, further, they prayed to Lord Kamadeva who is unconquerable, wielded in the bow, and beautiful five flower arrows mounted on the celestial vehicle Fish, appeared before the deities were received with great reverence.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – Devi Parvathi returns to the abode of Mount Himavan after the penance – The atrocities of demon Tharaka

Chapter – 81– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Devi Parvathi returns to the abode of Mount Himavan after the penance – The atrocities of demon Tharaka

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “The Saptharishis reverentially prostrated before Jagadambika Bhavani Devi Parvathi and spoke “Oh! Jagathjanani you are that inseparable Maya/female force of Lord Mahadeva who is Jagathpitha, Jagathmatha, and whose lotus feet are worshiped and sung in praise by the illustrious Yogis and Munis repeatedly.” The Saptharishis left the Himalayas and brought Mount Himavan with his King’s men to take Devi Parvathi to his abode with due respect. The Saptharishis met Lord Shiva and described the staunch devotion of Devi Parvathi, after listening to her steadfastness, pure love, and devotion, Lord Mahadeva felt extremely pleased, raptured in the love of Devi Parvathi. The supreme Lord Mahadeva who is unconquerable, wise, and learned, immersed in meditation and contemplation of Lord of Raghus. During this period, there was a powerful demon Tharaka underwent severe austerities and Tapasya, achieved several boons, became haughty began to harass the deities and Rishis, eventually, he conquered all the spheres on the three worlds. The deities lost glories and flee from their abode, helplessly fought against the dreadful demon was failed miserably.  The deities approached Lord Bhrama and appealed to put an end to the demon Tharaka and his atrocities.”

Chapter – 80– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Devi Parvathi’s stern response to Saptharishis

Devi Parvati replied “Oh! Mahathma, the supreme Lord Mahadeva may lack virtues, attired in the inauspicious garment, and decorated ornaments of serpents, as you have mentioned earlier Lord Vishnu who symbolizes auspiciousness, wealth, prosperity attired in magnificent clothing may possess’ virtues and happiness, but I believe Lord Mahadeva is the source of my happiness, hence my heart is yearning to achieve that supreme Lord Mahadeva as my consort. Oh! Muneesha, If I had met you earlier, I would have taken into consideration of your opinion with great reverence, but it is already too late, I have offered my life to Lord Shambhu, hence I do not bother about auspiciousness or inauspiciousness, if you really want to see the union of two hearts, do not discourage with your very idea to find someone else other than Lord Mahadeva. If I did not get married to Lord Mahadeva, I would prefer to live alone in all my lives, I may take several births or crores of birth and I would continue to do the penance until I achieve that Lord Mahadeva as my wedded husband. I will not disregard my preceptor Maharishi Narada, I have firm faith and devotion at the lotus feet of my preceptor, hence, even if Lord Mahadeva urges me to leave the faith in my preceptor for hundreds of times, I will not follow them. Oh! Mahathma, I shall bow down at your feet with great reverence, kindly depart to your hermitage, it is already late.” The Sapthrishis cheered in extreme delight “Victory to Jagathjanani!  Victory to Goddess Bhavani ! Victory to Mother of the Universe!”

Chapter – 79– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Devi Parvathi’s conversation with the Saptharishis

The Saptharishis continued “Oh! Devi, Lord Mahadeva is a mendicant, Bhava is dispassionate, lives on alms, and sleeps wherever he feels, lives in solitude, he has no home to live, how did a woman live without a home? Or enjoy life in the open like Mahadeva? Hence, kindly listen to our advice, you may get the finest groom enriched with virtues, auspiciousness, prosperity, fame, wealth, charm, and glory. We have found an excellent match for you; he is exceptionally good-looking and Veda has sung in praise of him. The Supreme Lord Vishnu is unblemished, most charming, promising resides in the milky ocean with his consort Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi, and he has the finest abode as Vaikunda/free from grief, we feel he is the appropriate groom for you.” Devi Bhavani laughed out and spoke “Oh! Mahathma, you have rightly observed me as solid as a rock, same as the precious yellow metal another product from the mine that does not leave its preciousness in the blaze, I would prefer to give up my Prana, instead of choosing somebody in place of Mahadeva as a wedded husband. Oh! Mahathma, I have taken a vow to sincerely follow the words of my preceptor Maharishi Narada, I have immense faith in my preceptor, let my home doom in despair, I won’t get alarmed. Whoever does not follow the words of their preceptor could not achieve auspiciousness and welfare not even in their dreams.”

Chapter – 78– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – The conversation between Saptharishis and Devi Uma

The Saptharishis laughed at her and spoke “Oh! Devi, you have already put your body into extreme penance and pushed it beyond the limits, you could have chosen to live in stately pleasure, instead, you have preferred to live in the harsh climates of the Himalayas, how could you blindly follow the advice of Maharishi Narada and leave the pleasures in the palace? Do you know, Maharishi Narada advised thousands of sons of Dhaksha and made them flee to the woods for Tapasya forever.  Narada advised king Chithrakethu who was mourning the death of his only child and the King left to wood for penance, and Hiranyakshipu also had followed the advice of Maharishi Narada.  Whoever listens to the advice of Maharishi Narada would leave their homes permanently and become ascetics, he finds pleasure in watching everyone roaming like him. Oh! Devi, you have believed the predictions of Narada and left your home, chosen to live in the dense forest of the Himalayas to conduct severe austerities, and thereby put yourself into intense agony, that too for achieving a mendicant Lord Mahadeva as a husband. Oh! Devi, Lord Mahadeva attired in inauspicious clothe and decorated serpents as ornaments, have no virtues, or attributes, he is homeless, dispassionate and shamelessly wander all-around smearing ashes all over the body, wearing a garland of skulls, etc. what would you do with a husband who has no charming appearance, wealth, passion, parents or home? Oh! Devi, you have made a big mistake following the advice of Maharishi Narada, you must have heard previously Lord Mahadeva married Devi Sati, later he left her to die.”
