Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Devi Kausalya expresses her concern about Bharatha

Chapter – 277– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Kausalya expresses her concern about Bharatha

Devi Kausalya spoke with a deep sigh “If Lakshman, Rama, and Devi Sita continue to stay in the forest, everything would be good at the end, but all I am worried about Bharatha in the absence of Rama. Oh! Devi, with your grace my four sons and daughters-in-law, are pure as sacred Ganga, I have never sworn over Rama, today I have to open up my heart before you all, I shall tell you the truth, Bharatha’s virtue, amiability, uprightness, modestly, affection and love, devotion and faith, and nobility are beyond words and comparison, even Devi Sarada who is the Goddess of speech would find it difficult to describe. The ocean does not get over-burdened with oyster shells, I have always noticed Bharatha’s virtue and modesty, and I was very certain that one day he will add glory to the clan, even the King has repeatedly expressed his admiration on Bharatha’s agreeable disposition, gold is tested on rubbing the stones, likewise the virtue of a person tested in the difficult circumstances. It was unfair from me to speak all these on this occasion, but sorrow and affection deter a person from what to speak and whatnot.” All the queens were overwhelmed in great affection listening to the wise words of Devi Kausalya resembled pure like the celestial river/Surasari/Devanadhi Ganga.

Chapter – 276– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Sunayana gets highly impressed with the wise words of Devi Kausalya

The mind and intellect are unpredictable, is a mixture of goodness and evil, the crows, herons, owls can be seen everywhere but the swans can be found in the Manasarovar alone. Devi Sumithra spoke in tears “The mind and intellect is so strange that it creates, preserves and destroys, as the creation of Almighty Lord. It is nothing but silly as the infant’s play.” Devi Kausalya spoke “It was nobody’s fault, sorrows and happiness, joy and grief, loss and gain, are predetermined by our past deeds. The unpredictable ways of mind and intellect are known to Almighty alone, he disperses the fruit of the Karma of Jeeva, both good and evil. It is the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Lord who is the creator, preserver, and destroyer of the Universe and its living and non-living things. Oh! Virtuous ladies, it is no use of lamenting on the things which have no control, it is all illusion. The destiny is not under the control of an individual, if we continue mourning over the death of the King in all our lives, it would be of our loss of personal interests.” Devi Sunayana replied “Oh! Devi, your noble words are true, you are the virtuous and dedicated wife of King Dhasharatha, the world will remember your words always.”

The people of Ayodhya and Mithila in the woods could not believe their fortune, exclaimed: “We don’t deserve all this goodness.” Their devotion and love at the lotus feet of Rama were beyond words, they lived in extreme bliss. Devi Sunayana, mother of Devi Sita sends her attendants to Queen mothers to find out whether it is convenient to visit Devi Kausalya in the hermitage of Rama, thus they have decided to meet during the leisure hours, Devi Sunayana visited Devi Kausalya was received with great respect and love. Devi Kausalya offered her a comfortable seat; the conversation took place between the females of both the family was capable to melt even the rock. They conversed in great affection, overwhelmed in various emotions, shed tears of grief, and kept silent for a while. All of the females resembled the personification of love for Rama and Devi Sita. Finally, the mother of Devi Sita broke the silence with her kind words “The fate was so cruel to all of us, the intellect has ruined the milk like happiness and serenity in the family.”

Chapter – 274– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The people of Ayodhya and Mithila forgot their grief of worldly existence in the presence of Rama and Devi Sita

All the people assembled before Sage Vashishta received baskets full of fruits, rooted vegetables, etc. They have returned to their shelter homes with the baskets full of fruits and vegetables, conducted the worship of deities, preceptors, and Pithrus/ancestors, and shared the fruits among themselves. In this way, four days were passed, the people of Ayodhya and Mithila were extremely happy in the presence of Rama, none has the heart to return home without Rama and Devi Sita, they considered living in the woods with Lord Rama and Devi Sita is millions of times happier than living in the abode of Amaravathi, the abode of deities. The people who did not make it to the woods, living in their homes felt unfortunate, did not achieve the fruitfulness to live with Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita. The people of Mithila and Ayodhya in the woods have found living in the presence of Rama is the source of welfare and happiness, taking a holy dip in the river Mandakini on a regular basis, and behold Rama who is the symbol of supreme bliss and auspiciousness, conducting journey through the woods, circumambulate the propitious mountain Kamadhagiri contemplating upon Rama, visiting the hermitages of ascetics and Rishis, living on fruits, fiber roots, and vegetables available in the woods. They thought it would be blissful if they could spend another fourteen years with Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita in the woods, the days would go like minutes.

Chapter – 273– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The mother Earth showered warmth to the people of Mithila and Ayodhya by serving their needs in abundance

The forest dwellers brought several wicker baskets full of succulent fruits, vegetables, and fiber roots in large quantities. The very presence of Lord Rama in the Chitrakoot provided all that required items to meet the appetite of the people gathered, which was enough to satisfy their appetite with the mere sight of it. The lakes, streams, watercourses were filled with nectar-like water, brimming with joy and love. The trees and creepers were loaded with fruits and flowers, which provided a beautiful shelter home for the various species of birds, and humming bees. The entire forest of Chitrakoot was overflowing with joy, love, the sounds of birds and animals living in complete harmony, the cool and fragrant breeze enhanced the delight of the people. The loveliness of Chithrakoot was beyond words as if the mother Earth was showering warmth to King Janaka and the entire people of Mithila and Ayodhya. The people assembled finished holy dip and performed morning rite, and assembled before Sage Vashishta, King Janaka, and Rama to receive permission to retire to their shelter homes in the woods were presented with various kinds of fruits, fiber roots, vegetables, etc. in several wicker baskets.

Chapter – 272– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The people of Ayodhya and Mithila assembled before the illustrious Bhramins, preceptors, and Sages

During the early hours of daybreak, the King of Nimis, Janaka, and Rama took ablutions, soon the members of the two families followed them to have a holy dip in the river Payaswini, after that they all assembled under the shade of Peepal tree, all of them were emaciated with grief and exhaustion of long journeys. The illustrious Bhramins of Mithila and Ayodhya, preceptors Sage Vashishta, Vamadeva, and Shathanandha the priest of King Janaka took a seat on the altar and started giving lectures on various legends, which is full of wisdom, dispassion, and devotion, for the people of Mithila and Ayodhya to get rid of grief of worldly existence. The illustrious Sage Vishwamithra highly praised the assembly of Sages and advised “Oh! Noble souls, all of you have spent several hours without a meal, it is almost past noon, the Lord of Raghu wishes all of you have something to satiate your appetite.” The King Janaka replied “Oh! Mune, it is not advisable to have a usual meal at this moment” all the sages assembled were highly pleased with the idea of King Janaka, soon all assembled men were departed to perform midday sun worship after receiving the permission from the Sage.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The family of King Janaka and King Dhasharatha observes fast and takes a dip in the holy river Payaswini

Chapter – 271– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The family of King Janaka and King Dhasharatha observes fast and takes a dip in the holy river Payaswini

The men and women were plunged into great anguish, the deities, hermits, Yogis, and preceptors cried out watching the pitiable state of Janaka and the two families “Alas! It was the cruel fate that played its role!” Sage Tulsidas affirms that the grief of the ocean can be crossed only with the ferry of pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama. Sages and preceptors pacified the people of Mithila and Ayodhya with compassionate words, the preceptor Sage Vashishta advised King Janaka “Oh! Rajan, be calm!”. Will the darkness of ignorance overwhelm king Janaka who is Rajarishi, a renounced soul, learned and wise whose dispassionate speeches steal the hearts of hermits, and Yogis? Alas! the affection for his daughter Janakanandhini, and the devotion to Lord Rama plunged him into a deep sense of dejection, that won over the wisdom of King Janaka. The Veda emphasizes there are three types of Jeeva, the superior form of the Jeeva is the one who has achieved the knowledge of self/Athma is Paramathma, well respected in the assemblage of Rishis and Sages, wise and full of love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra. The wisdom without love at the feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra is like the vessel that has no use. Sage Vashishta pacified King Janaka in many ways, and all of them went to have a holy dip in the river Payaswini, the Ram Ghat/beautiful stairs constructed for Rama on the riverbank to take a dip on a regular basis. All the women and men were overwhelmed with sorrow and grief, that day everyone observed fast, no one has the heart to consume a meal or drink even a drop of water. The animals such as deer, cows, birds, etc. in the woods engulfed in sorrow, refused to eat anything, hence nothing to talk about the two families.
