Guha after a short while ordered his men “Oh! Dear friends, be alert and ready to meet any kind of adversities, take out your boats in large numbers, and create a blockade on the riverbank so that the enemies cannot cross the river without our knowledge. Be prepared to meet death if needed, I will not let Bharatha cross the river Ganga, if his intentions were not right, I will fight against him all alone until my life lingers in me. Oh! Dear friends die on the bosom of mother Ganga, that too for the welfare of Rama is a good fortune to me. Bharatha is the younger brother of Rama and King of Ayodhya, I am just a sincere servant of Rama, I shall fight for the welfare of my master Lord Rama, and spread glory in the fourteen spheres. I shall sacrifice my life for the Lord of Raghu, and thereby achieve fruitfulness in my life. If I win the battle with Bharatha, I will consider I have served my Master, if not I may achieve the abode of Lord and engage in the worship of him, hence in, either way, I shall achieve the fortune in my life. Oh! Dear friends, the Jeeva who is not fond of virtuous, noble, Mahathma, or fond of devotees of Lord Rama, or does not have the devotion at the lotus feet of Lord of Raghu, their lives are considered as worthless, and that kind of Jeevas are a mere burden on the Earth, and they are born as an ax to cut off the youth of their mother.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Guha gets anxious about the arrival of Bharatha with the people of Ayodhya

Chapter – 182 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Guha gets anxious about the arrival of Bharatha with the people of Ayodhya

During their journey, some of them survived on milk, and others on fruits, and consumed meals once in a day, that too in the night. The people have sincerely followed austerities, abandoned the finest clothes and ornaments, undertook fast for the welfare of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita. They halted on the riverbank ‘Sai’ in the night, and in the early hours of morning proceeded their journey to the village of Guha – Shrungabheripura. Guha came to know about the arrival of Bharatha along with the people of Ayodhya, he was immersed in various thoughts “What would be the intention of Bharatha’s journey to woods? Or he must have structured some evil plans against Rama? If not, why should he bring the huge army of men with him? He must have some evil plans to put Rama and Lakshman in trouble so that he can peacefully rule the Kingdom of Ayodhya. If Bharatha was on evil intentions, definitely he will not succeed in it, even if all those warriors, deities and demons, collectively fight against Rama, no one can conquer Rama in the battle. I wonder why should Bharatha conceive an evil plan against Rama? After all, the fruits from venomous plants cannot bear the ambrosia.”

Mune, thus the two brothers Bharatha and Shathrughna set out to woods, along with the preceptors, family, people of Ayodhya, sincere attendants, etc. the two brothers keeping all those people in the forefront, followed them remembering the lotus feet of Lord Rama and Devi Sita. The women and men, children, and elderly members of the city rushed behind them, like the thirsty elephant searching for water in the woods. Bharatha and Shathrughna refused to travel by horse, they walked barefoot remembering the hardships of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita in the woods. Soon, the people accompanied were refused to travel by cart, elephant, horses, etc. and they too walked barefoot watching the devotion and pure love of Bharatha and Shathrughna. Devi Kausalya who was traveling in a beautiful palanquin went close to Bharatha and spoke affectionately, “Oh! Dear son, do not walk barefoot, board on a chariot, and proceed to woods, otherwise, all your near and dear ones will refuse to travel by chariot and cart, they are already shrunken with the grief and sorrow at the separation from Rama. If you walk barefoot, they will follow the same, if so, I am anxious they can’t make it to woods by foot.” Bharatha and Shathrughna reverentially bowed before Devi Kausalya and mounted on their chariots and continued the rest of the journey. On their first day the huge group accompanied by Bharatha and Shathrughna was halted on the riverbank of ‘Thamasa’, and on the second day they have stayed on the riverbank of Gomathi.
