Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The practice of singing in praise of Lord Rama removes the grief and sorrow of worldly existence – Viradhavadham – Rama visits the hermitage of Sage Sharabhanga

Chapter – 6– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The practice of singing in praise of Lord Rama removes the grief and sorrow of worldly existence– Viradhavadham – Rama visits the hermitage of Sage Sharabhanga

Sage Athri experienced the sudden rush of thrill through his limbs, fixed his gaze at the lotus feet of Prabhu Sri Ramachandra, and thought “What did I do to achieve the grace of the Supreme Lord, all those prayers uttered and austerities performed were brought the fortune to behold the beauty of the Lord, who is beyond perception, the essence of three Gunas/Rajasik, Thamasik and Sathvik, the single source of functioning of the body, mind, intellect, Chiththa, and Ahamkara. Ultimately, the observance of vows, austerities, the practice of Shamadhamadhis, Yoga, meditation, and devotion proved as the only source to perceive that supreme Bhramam/God-realization.” So does sage Tulsidas sing in praise of the glories of that supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra and remain in supreme bliss.

Singing in praise of the glorious myths of Lord Sri Ramachandra removes the impurities of the Kali era, it removes the Kama/lust, Krodha/anger, Lobha/jealousy, Moha/desire, Madha/arrogance, Mathshcharya/ego, Ahamkara/pride, and Mamakara/possession of the Jeeva which is the root cause of grief and sufferings of the worldly existence. Whoever recites and listens to the legends of Lord Sri Rama with great devotion would achieve all kinds of auspiciousness and bliss. The Kali era is a repository of sins, and impurities, hence the achievement of spiritual wisdom, Yoga, Japa, and Thapa remains impossible. The wise sing in praise of Lord Sri Ramachandra and attains perpetual bliss.

Lord Sri Ramachandra who is the Lord of animate and inanimate creatures bowed before Sage Athri and proceeded to the dense woods. Rama in the forefront and Lakshman on the rear side, attired in the saffron robes, adorned in prayer beads, matted hair locks, wielded in bow and arrow gracefully moved through the forest, Devi Sita who is inseparable Maya of the Mayapathi, was attired in a saffron robe and prayer beads walked gracefully following the footsteps of her beloved consort, resembled the Maya between the Paramathma/Supreme Bhramam/Rama and Jeevathma/Lakshman. The rough pathways, streams, rivers, mountains, and hills smoothened its surface knowing the visit of the Lord, the clouds provided shade to the Lord. On their way, the haughty demon Viradha got killed by Rama was achieved salvation. Further, Rama along with Devi Sita and Lakshman visited the hermitage of Sage Sharabhanga.

Chapter – 5 (2)– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Lord Sri Ramachandra seeking permission to leave Chithrakoot from Sage Athri

Devi Anasuya speaks “Oh! Devi, women are born impure by birth, she attains purity and bliss by serving her wedded husband. Devi Tulsi was beloved of Lord Hari, hence her glories are sung in praise in all the Yugas, even the Vedas highly eulogizes the virtues of Devi Tulsi. Oh! Devi Sita, the women may achieve faithfulness to their husbands and virtues mere remembering your name. Lord Sri Ramachandra is dear as life to you, it is good that I have detailed the Sthreedharma/Pathivratha Dharma to you for the welfare of the world.” Devi Janaki was extremely happy to listen to the discourse of Devi Anasuya, she repeatedly prostrated before her feet. The merciful Lord Sri Ramachandra spoke to Sage “Oh! Prabho, with your permission, I shall take leave from Chitrakoot and settle in some other part of the woods, kindly shower your perpetual grace on us, knowing me as your sincere servant, and never stop loving us.” The enlightened Sage who is a champion of virtues spoke fervently “Oh! Prabho, Sri Ramachandra, you are that supreme Bhramam which is unblemished, pure, dispassionate, neither birth nor death, changeless, free from afflictions, you are too kind and compassionate to your devotees. You are sought after by Lord Bhrama, Lord Shiva, Sanakadhis, and Bhramajjanis, yet you are humble and meek to me. Oh! Prabho, now I have understood why Goddess Mahalakshmi has chosen you as her beloved consort, leaving all the deities. Oh! Prabho, you are beyond comparison and perception as well. How could I say leave Chithrakoot, after knowing you as the all-pervasive supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva.” Sage Athri paused for a while staring at the charming appearance of Prabhu Sri Ramchandra, his body quivered in extreme bliss, eyes were overflown with the tears of love.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Devi Anasuya describes the wifely duties/Pathivratha Dharma/Sthree Dharma of a woman

Chapter – 5 (1)– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Devi Anasuya describes the wifely duties/Pathivratha Dharma/Sthree Dharma of a woman

Sage Athri bowed his head and began to speak with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, let this mind never abandon to meditate and contemplate upon your lotus feet.” In the meantime, Devi Sita went to meet Devi Anasuya/wife of Sage Athri, and prostrated before her. Devi Anasuya was highly pleased with the modesty of Devi Sita, blessed her and made her seated next to her, and provided the garments and ornaments that remain pure and tidy always, further she gave a lecture on ‘Pathivratha Dharma’/wifely duties of a chaste woman in a sweet tone to Devi Sita.  Devi Anasuya spoke affectionately “Oh! Princess, all the blood relations like father, mother, and brother can provide a limited joy to a woman, Oh! Devi, the husband is the only one who provides unlimited joy to a woman in the form of blessings. Oh! Vaidhehi, whoever refuses to serve and follow the duties and responsibilities to a husband is sinful. Courage, piety, companion, and wife are put to test at the time of adversity. Oh! Devi, whoever uncaring and disrespectful to their husband, even if he is deaf, dumb, disabled, wretched, ill, ignorant, blind, would suffer hellish torture in the abode of Yama. The penance of a woman is the devotion to her husband with body, mind, and deed is considered as the superior duty, and righteousness of a married woman. The Vedas and scriptures, Rishis, emphasizes there are four types of women in this world, they are 1) the superior among the one who can’t dream of anyone other than her wedded husband 2) the Madhyama/ second category of women who consider other men like her brother, or son, or father according to his age. 3) The women who are virtueless, uncaring of her own clan or husband, seek every opportunity for her welfare is considered as impure by Veda 4) The women who abandon her wedded husband, and enjoy physical pleasure with the stranger, and fall in love with the stranger of lowly clan shall endure the hellish torture in the Raurava for several thousand and millions of births. Oh! Devi, the woman who sincerely follows the duties and responsibilities towards her husband would easily achieve commendable rewards, if she was disloyal to her husband would take several births and get widowed at a young age.”

Chapter – 3– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Rama visits the hermitage of Sage Athri and Devi Anasuya

Jayantha committed a horrible sin out of ignorance was deserved the death punishment, but the compassionate Lord took one of his eyes and let him free from fear. Who is as compassionate and merciful as Lord Raghu? In this way, Lord of Raghu performed various passionate sport in the Chitrakoot that were sweet as nectar to listen to. Lord Raghu decided to leave the Chithrakoot when the hermits and villagers throng to visit him in a large number. Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita bade farewell to all the hermits, Rishis, and Sages of Chitrakoot and proceed to the hermitage of Sage Athri.  As soon as the Sage received the news of the arrival of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita, he rushed to invite them, his limbs were quivered in extreme bliss, the heart was brimming with love for the Lord, watching the Sage rushing in great enthusiasm, Rama too hurried to the Sage. The two brothers prostrated before the Sage was raised from the ground and embraced, his eyes were overflowing with tears of love, further he led Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita to his hermitage affectionately. Sage Athri offered seats for his guests, conversed with them in a sweet nectar-like voice, and offered fruits, fiber roots to his guests.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Jayantha’s/ son the Lord Indra mischievousness against Devi Sita

Chapter – 2– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– Jayantha’/son the Lord Indra   mischievousness against Devi Sita

The Supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra who is compassionate and kind, has always pleasing nature could not bear the mischievousness of the crow, when repeatedly played its trick. The arrow aimed at the crow chased it all the way to Indraloka. Indra’s son Jayantha assumed his real form and took shelter at his father, but Indra refused to protect him for his atrocity towards Lord Rama. Thus, he became disappointed like the Sage Durvass who was chased after by the fiery discus of the Lord. He rushed to the Bhramaloka all weary and tired, and Lord Shiva and other deities as well, but none of them were dared to protect him for the sin committed to Lord Rama, none of the deities want to give protection to the enemy of Lord Sri Ramachandra. Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, the Jeeva who keeps enmity to Lord Rama would experience his/her parents as Lord Yama, friends as thousands of enemies, and the nectar as venom, and the celestial river Ganga becomes Vaitharini for them and the whole world seems to be the furnace for them. Maharishi Narada found Jayantha in utter distress, the Sages are always kind and the savior of distressed people advised him to take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra. Jayantha rushed to Lord and fallen at his feet and cried “Oh! Prabho, you are the savior of the distressed soul, I shall surrender at your lotus feet, kindly protect me, Oh! Lord of Raghu, I am an ignorant Jeeva did not realize the incomparable might and matchless glory of you. I have reaped the fruit of my wicked deed, finally, I have taken shelter at your lotus feet, Oh! Prabho, kindly protect me.” Lord Shambhu speaks “Oh! Parvathi, the gracious Lord Prabhu Sri Ramachandra who is kind to Jeeva, released Jayantha from fear, further Jayantha lost one of his eyes as a punishment for his wickedness to Jaganmatha Paramba Bhagavathi Devi Sita.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – The initial Prayers – The passionate sport of Rama in Chitrakoot

Chapter – 1– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda– The initial Prayers – The passionate sport of Rama in Chitrakoot

I shall prostrate before Lord Shankara who is the essence of righteousness, piety, and wisdom, initiated from the clan of Lord Bhrama, beloved of Lord Sri Ramachandra, like the full moon provides bliss to the ocean, the sunlight that causes to blossom the lotus flower. He dispels the darkness of ignorance in the Jeeva, destroys the sins, and removes grief and agony of worldly existence.

I shall prostrate before Lord Sri Ramachandra along with Lakshman, who is the source of bliss, attired in majestic yellow silk garment, he has attractive blue limbs resemble the freshly formed rain clouds, he is wielded in powerful bow and arrows, and the quiver fastened on the waist, he has beautiful large eyes resembles blue lotus flower petals, he is adorned on matted hair locks.

The legend of Goddess Uma’s meeting with Lord Rama is mysterious, the Sages and learned developed dispassion/Vairagya appreciate it, while the ignorant Jeeva drenched in worldly matters, and chasing after physical pleasures, keep away themselves from the practice of devotion to Lord Hari would get bewildered listening to those glorious legends.

I have illustrated the pure love and devotion of Bharatha and the faith of the people of Ayodhya at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra to the best of my ability. I shall describe the glorious deeds of Lord Sri Ramachandra in the woods that was performed for the delight of deities, hermits, and Rishis. On one occasion, Rama picked up a handful of fresh alluring flowers of rich fragrance and created a garland for Devi Sita, who was seated on the crystal rock. Rama made a few flower ornaments too for his dearest consort and decked her with his own hands. At that moment, the dull-witted son of Lord Indra took the form of a crow, wanted to test the might of Lord Sri Ramachandra, like the ignorant dive into the bottomless ocean to measure its depth. The son of Lord Indra disguised as a crow jabbed on the feet of Devi Sita and flew away, Lord Raghu noticed only when the blood was oozing out of the wound on her feet, it infuriated Lord prepared to shoot an arrow aiming at the crow.
