Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Guha gets anxious about the arrival of Bharatha with the people of Ayodhya

Chapter – 182 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Guha gets anxious about the arrival of Bharatha with the people of Ayodhya

During their journey, some of them survived on milk, and others on fruits, and consumed meals once in a day, that too in the night. The people have sincerely followed austerities, abandoned the finest clothes and ornaments, undertook fast for the welfare of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita. They halted on the riverbank ‘Sai’ in the night, and in the early hours of morning proceeded their journey to the village of Guha – Shrungabheripura. Guha came to know about the arrival of Bharatha along with the people of Ayodhya, he was immersed in various thoughts “What would be the intention of Bharatha’s journey to woods? Or he must have structured some evil plans against Rama? If not, why should he bring the huge army of men with him? He must have some evil plans to put Rama and Lakshman in trouble so that he can peacefully rule the Kingdom of Ayodhya. If Bharatha was on evil intentions, definitely he will not succeed in it, even if all those warriors, deities and demons, collectively fight against Rama, no one can conquer Rama in the battle. I wonder why should Bharatha conceive an evil plan against Rama? After all, the fruits from venomous plants cannot bear the ambrosia.”

Chapter – 181 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha and Shathrughna refused to mount on the chariot and begins their journey barefoot

Sage Yajjavalkya spoke “Oh! Mune, thus the two brothers Bharatha and Shathrughna set out to woods, along with the preceptors, family, people of Ayodhya, sincere attendants, etc. the two brothers keeping all those people in the forefront, followed them remembering the lotus feet of Lord Rama and Devi Sita. The women and men, children, and elderly members of the city rushed behind them, like the thirsty elephant searching for water in the woods. Bharatha and Shathrughna refused to travel by horse, they walked barefoot remembering the hardships of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita in the woods. Soon, the people accompanied were refused to travel by cart, elephant, horses, etc. and they too walked barefoot watching the devotion and pure love of Bharatha and Shathrughna. Devi Kausalya who was traveling in a beautiful palanquin went close to Bharatha and spoke affectionately, “Oh! Dear son, do not walk barefoot, board on a chariot, and proceed to woods, otherwise, all your near and dear ones will refuse to travel by chariot and cart, they are already shrunken with the grief and sorrow at the separation from Rama. If you walk barefoot, they will follow the same, if so, I am anxious they can’t make it to woods by foot.” Bharatha and Shathrughna reverentially bowed before Devi Kausalya and mounted on their chariots and continued the rest of the journey. On their first day the huge group accompanied by Bharatha and Shathrughna was halted on the riverbank of ‘Thamasa’, and on the second day they have stayed on the riverbank of Gomathi.

Mahatma, although I have been born to a wicked mother, and consider myself as evil and deceitful as my mother responsible for all the troubles, I am confident that the Lord of Raghu Rama will not abandon me.” All those ministers, preceptors, prominent members in the Kingdom assembled in the huge Hall were overwhelmed with various emotions at the pure love and devotion of Bharatha. The people who had been burning with the pain of separation from Rama assumed the innocent and wise words of Bharatha as Beejamanthra/sacred syllables.  The members of the assembly, mothers, and preceptors praised Bharatha for his pure love and sincere devotion to Rama “Oh! Beloved son, you are the embodiment of devotion and pure love at the lotus feet of Rama/Bhakti, you are dear as life to Rama, hence it is not surprising that you have spoken such a marvelous word revealing your devotion to Rama. Oh! Dear son, the ignorant may suspect you because of your mother’s crookedness. Oh! Son, whoever blame you for the adversities that taken place in the Kingdom of Ayodhya would reap the hellish torture for hundreds of Kalpa, with their several generations. The gem on the forehead of a snake is not impure as it was carried by the venomous serpent, in fact, the gem is capable to remove the poison and destroy the burns into ashes.”

Mahathma, I shall bow my head before your lotus feet, I have poured out my distress in words before you, therefore until and unless I behold the feet of Lord Rama, I won’t get relieved from the distress. I have found no other way to get relieved from my grief, the Chief of Raghu Lord Rama knows the state of my mind, hence no one could provide peace to me other than him. At the daybreak, I shall proceed to the woods to meet my Lord Rama. Even though I have born to a wicked mother, and the root cause of all the troubles, I am certain that the compassionate Lord Rama would forgive all my fault and shower an abundance of grace. The Lord of Raghu is the essence of kindness, compassion, love, amiability, and innocence, he does not hurt even his enemies, I am merely a child of Rama and a sincere servant of him.
