Chapter - 64– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The conversation between Kumbhakarna and Vibheeshana on the battlefield

Kumbhakarnna remembered the stunning form and virtues of Lord Sri Ramachandra and forgot himself for a moment, in the meantime, Ravana made arrangements to feed his brother with jars of wine, and vessels of meats, after having meals of huge quantities, Kumbhakarna roared like a flash of lightning, he was heavily drunk and passion for war forced him to drive to the battlefield without an army of demons. Vibheeshana saw his elder brother Kumbhakarnna on the battlefield, prostrated before him, remained in the embrace of each other for a while, and much appreciated him for his devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra and Vibeeshana spoke “Oh! Brother, I was humiliated in the assembly of our elder brother Ravana, he has thrown me out of the palace for giving him appropriate advice, I was helpless, took shelter at the lotus feet of compassionate Lord Sri Ramachandra, and immediately got rid of my fear and anxiousness.” Kumbhakarnna spoke “Oh! Vibheeshana, Ravana is out of mind, he is under the clutches of death, cannot listen to the best advice at this moment. Oh! Brother, you are truly fortunate, you are an ornament to the demon race, you have brought glory to the demon clan by your pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra who is supreme bliss personified.”

Chapter - 63– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The conversation between Ravana and Kumbhakarnna

Kumbhakarnna felt very sorry for Ravana after listening to the destruction of armies of demons and great warriors on the battle against Rama, he shrieked at Ravana “Oh! Fool, are you out of mind? you have abducted the mother of the Universe, Jagathjannani, Paramba, Bhagavathi, Devi Sita while her husband was away, after all these do you expect anything good in your life? Oh! King of demons, you have not been fair to Lord Sri Ramchandra, then why did you come and wake me up? Leave your arrogance and pride and worship Lord Sri Ramachandra and thereby get rid of your troubles. Oh! Dhashanan, do you think Lord Rama, Lord of Raghu is mortal even after witnessing the might of his emissary Hanuman? Alas! Oh! Brother, you did not discuss it with me before committing a sin, you have invited hostility to that supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra whose favorites are Lord Virinchi and Lord Shambhu. I would have enlightened you with the knowledge of that Bhramam which I have attained from Maharishi Narada once, anyway you have crossed all the limits. Oh! Brother, come and give me a hug, I am leaving to witness that marvelous form of Lord Sri Ramachandra, who has dark cloud complexion, beautiful lotus-like eyes, capable to remove the Thapathraya/Adhidheivik, Adhibhauthik, and Adhyathmika of the devotees.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Ravana approaches Kumbhakarnna who was in deep slumber

Chapter - 62– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Ravana approaches Kumbhakarnna who was in deep slumber

The huge number of Vanaras and bears surrounded by Lord Rama shed tears watching the Lord in utter misery, suddenly Hanuman appeared before them, spreading hope and joy. Rama embraced Hanuman, expressed his gratitude and affection towards him. The physician of Lanka Sushena applied the herbs on the wound of Lakshman, immediately he rose on his feet. Lord Sri Ramachandra embraced him in tears, the army of Vanaras and bears rejoiced. Hanuman restored Sushena along with his house in Lanka, in the same way, he has brought the Physician to Mount Suvela. Ravana came to know the progress in his enemy’s camp, could not control his jealousy, bet his head in utter distress. He rushed to his younger brother Kumbhakarnna who was in deep slumber, he tried all means to wake him up, Kumbhakarnna woke up from a deep sleep and took a seat that resembled death, he asked Ravana “Oh! Dhashanan, why are you so troubled?” Ravana described all that had happened to him, after abducting Devi Sita and brought to her Lanka, he continued in extreme despair “Dear brother, The Vanars and bears have destroyed a huge part of our army, they have killed mighty warriors like Dhurmukha and Devanthaka/enemies of deities, Naranthaka/slayer of human, Athikaya/enormous sized, Akampana/fearless, Mahodhara/potbellied, who are all unconquerable on the battlefield met their death in the hands of Vanaras and bears.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Rama lamenting over the misfortune on Lakshman

Chapter - 61– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Rama lamenting over the misfortune on Lakshman

Hanuman prostrated at the feet of Bharatha and spoke with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, contemplating upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra, I shall make my way back to the Lord swiftly.” While returning to Lanka, Hanuman thought of the might of Bharatha, amiability virtues, and devotion, and praised him abundantly.

At mount Suvela, Rama uttered the words of anxiousness like an ordinary human watching the miserable state of Lakshman “Hanuman has not returned yet, what would happen if he didn’t come back before the daybreak? The half of the night has passed.” He wrapped Lakshman on his chest and shed tears of grief “ Oh! Dear brother, you can’t watch me in distress, you have been always pleasing and kind to me, you have abandoned the stately luxuries, and your parents for myself, and adapted to live in the extreme climate of the woods, Oh! Thatha, where is that love for me? Why don’t you wake up after listening to my cries? I have never expected that my brother would lose his life in the woods, if so, I would have refused to follow the command of my father. The children, richness, money, fame, possessions, relatives, and companions would come and go, but a sincere and devoted brother like Lakshman is difficult to achieve. Oh! Brother, keep my words in your mind and wake up, life of a serpent without the precious gem on its forehead, a bird without wings, an elephant without a trunk, is miserable as my life without you. If fate force me to live without you, what would I say to Mother Sumithra? How did I return to Ayodhya after sacrificing life for the sake of my wife? I do not consider losing my wife as a big issue, I would bear the criticism of the world, but how did I survive with the grief of your loss and criticism of the world? You are the only solace to Devi Sumithra, and you are the delight of her, yet she has entrusted you in my hand hoping for your happiness and joy, she has believed that I would take good care of you, she trusted me as your well-wisher, how did I face Devi Sumithra in your absence? Why don’t you get up and advise me?”. Thus, Lord of Raghu dispeller of sorrow and grief, shed tears. Lord Mahadeva speaks “Oh! Devi Uma, the Lord of Raghu is absolute Bhramam, which is omnipresent, has expressed grief as an ordinary human being to reveal the compassionate nature of him to his ardent devotees.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Hanuman describes the life of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Vaidhehi to Bharatha

Chapter - 60– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Hanuman describes the life of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Vaidhehi  to Bharatha

Bharatha experienced a sudden rush of thrill through his limbs, eyes overflowing with tears, embraced Hanuman, his heart was overflown with the love for Rama while in the embrace of Hanuman.  Bharatha spoke affectionately “Oh! Thatha, kindly tell me all about Rama who is the delight of Raghu's, younger brother Lakshman, and Devi Sita, mother of the Universe, daughter of King Janaka. Are they doing well in the woods?” Hanuman described all about Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Vaidhehi, after listening to it, Bharatha turned miserable, his heart went on grieving for them “Oh! Almighty Lord, why did I take birth in the illustrious clan of Raghu, or why did I take birth in this world, if I am not able to do any service to my Lord Sri Ramachandra?” soon Bharatha regained his normal self and spoke to Vanara “Oh! Hanuman, do not make any delay to return to Lord Raghu, if it gets daybreak all your effort will go in vain, hence ascend on my arrow, I shall send you to the Lord of Raghu in no time.” Hanuman’s pride stirred up and thought “how did it become possible for an arrow to hold my weight”, immediately he contemplated upon Lord Raghu, prostrated before Bharatha, and addressed him with folded hands.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Lanka Kanda – Bharatha shot an arrow on Hanuman while crossing Ayodhya in the night hours

Chapter - 59– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Bharatha shot an arrow on  Hanuman while crossing Ayodhya in the night hours

Bharatha who was wide awaken during the dark hours witnessed a colossal form crossing across the Kingdom of Ayodhya, he stretched his bow up to ears and shot a safe arrow against the colossal form thinking it as a demon. The arrow hit Hanuman, fallen unconscious on the ground calling out “Ram! Ram! Oh! Lord of Raghu”, as soon as Bharatha heard what he wanted to hear all his life, rushed to the Vanara and took a seat beside him. Bharatha took Hanuman close to his chest and tried all means to bring him to consciousness was ended up in vain. Bharatha could not control his grief, eyes overflown with tears, spoke “I am experiencing the same grief and agony as the Vanara after I got separated from Lord Sri Ramachandra, If I have sincere devotion and pure love at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra by word, mind and deed, if I have achieved the grace of Lord, may this Vanara get relieved from pain and grief.” Soon Hanuman woke up, and taken a seat before Bharatha shedding tears “Hail Lord of Raghu! Hail Kosaladheesa! Hail Lord Sri Ramachandra!”
