Chapter - 56– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The demon Kalanemi advises Ravana to leave hostility towards Lord Sri Ramachandra

 

Sushena rushed to Rama, and prostrated before the lotus feet of the Lord. He advised the herb and its availability as well; he spoke to Hanuman “Oh! Vayuputhra hurry to the Mountain and bring the herb immediately” soon Hanuman darted to the direction of the Mountain, contemplating upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra. In the meantime, the spies of Ravana understood the state of affairs in the camp of Rama was duly reported to Ravana, who in turn summoned the demon Kalanemi  and informed the journey of Hanuman to collect herbs to save the life of Lakshman, but Kalanemi was not willing to follow Dhashanan, he bet his head in regret, and advised Ravana “Oh! Friend, no one can obstruct the mighty Vanara, Hanuman who burnt your city Lanka into ashes before your eyes. Therefore, leave your animosity against that Lord Sri Ramachandra and restore peace in your kingdom, otherwise all your efforts will go in vain. Oh! Friend, leave your hostility towards Lord Sri Ramachandra who is the source of supreme bliss, has marvelous appearance, lotus like eyes, and beautiful limbs, Oh! Friend, leave your lust, desire, anger, ego, pride, jealousy, Ahamkara and Mamakara, leave your interest in worldly matters, body consciousness, and bondage, can you conquer the supreme Lord who is the essence of Time, devour the Universe and its animate and inanimate things?”

A huge number of demons took a closer look on the Lakshman, and tried all the means to lift him from the ground, is it possible for demons to lift the Lord Adhishesha who carries the entire Universe on its single hood? Eventually all the mighty demons returned in utter shame. Lord Shambhu speaks “Oh! Devi Parvathi, no one can conquer the mighty Lord who is personified as Lakshman, whose wrath is capable to consume the fourteen spheres that cause universal dissolution, and worshiped by deities, humans, animate and inanimate things. I shall tell you the truth, no one knows the mystery behind it, other than Lord himself. As the hours of dusk has approached, the two armies were prepared to leave the battlefield led by their chief.  The supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra who is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent, asked “Where is Lakshman?” at that moment Hanuman brought Lakshman before the Lord, watching the miserable state of his younger brother, Rama could not control his grief. Soon the elderly Jambavan ordered “There is an eminent physician Sushena lives in Lanka, somebody has to bring him immediately.” Instantly, Hanuman hurried to pick Sushena, and brought him back along with his house.

Chapter - 54– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – The description of battle between Lakshman and Indhrajeeth

 

The battlefield crammed with the large number of corpses, the hollows on the surface of the Earth covered in flood, the ashes like the dust covered up the blood dried on the ground, the wounded warriors resembled flowers of Kimshuka tree, the two heroes Lakshman and Indhrajeeth fought each other in extreme fury, and the battle continued for a long hour. The demons resorted to evil tricks and illusionary powers, Lakshman who is none other than Adhishesha who holds the weight of the entire Universe on its hood, whose wrath resemble the dissolution of the Universe, smashed the chariots and tore the demons into pieces, at a certain point of time, Indhrajeeth realized that it is difficult to withstand the might of Lakshman, he hurled a spear aiming on the chest of Lakshman, and it hit the target soon Lakshman fell unconscious on the battlefield, Meghanath went to closer to have a look at Lakshman and thereby got rid of his fear.

Chapter - 53– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Lakshman proceeds to the battlefield along with Vanaras and bears

 

Lakshman wielded in bow and arrow, received permission from Rama and proceeded to the battlefield followed by Angadha and several mighty warriors, his eyes were reddened in anger, broad chest and strong shoulder resembled the snow-clad Mount Himalaya with a hue of golden color. At the other end, there were several mighty demons of dreadful appearance wielded in vicious weapons ready to fight against their enemies, soon several Vanaras and bears holding rocks and huge trees rushed towards the demons, cheering “Hail Lord Sri Ramachandra! Hail Lakshman!” eventually a huge battle broke out between the demons and the Vanaras of equal might. Vanaras used their sharp nails and teeth as weapon, they tore off the demons, crushed them under feet, hurled themselves upon them and created a huge chaos on the battlefield. There were shouts and cries of panic reverberated in the three worlds, several headless bodies flee aimlessly on the battleground, the deities witnessed the vicious battle between the demons and the army of Vanaras led by Lakshman in joy and surprise.

The wicked Indhrajeeth utilized illusionary power against the Lord who is the Lord of Mayapathi, and whose Maya/illusion is capable to influence all the creatures in the Universe, even Lord Bhrama and Lord Shambhu. Lord Rama took a flight on the air and showered arrows on the enemies, not leaving a space for pin drop. Indrajeeth shot arrows caused to shower blood, bones, flesh etc.., he covered the brightness of the Sun with his illusionary power, soon the whole battlefield crammed with dust and darkness, the Vanaras and bears were alarmed, the compassionate Lord Rama saw his army in panic, immediately shot an arrow that broke the illusionary web created by Meghanatha, like the Sun tear off the veil of darkness. The supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra showered compassionate grace on the Vanaras and bears on the battlefield, soon they have regained their enthusiasm and became uncontrolled on the battlefield.

Chapter - 51– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Lanka Kanda – Meganatha faces tough battle against Rama

 

The mighty Meghanatha showered arrows on the Vanaras, that killed and wounded several Vanars, fell on the ground with a large thud, he stood gigantically on the battlefield and roared like a lion. Son of Lord Vayu, Hanuman saw his warriors are in trouble, needed to be protected, he rushed to the battlefield in a rage resembled death personified. He plucked a huge rock and hurled on Meghanatha who took a flight from his chariot, eventually the chariot and charioteer crushed under the rock. Hanuman initiated dual fight with Meghanatha was evaded for a while as he was known the might of the Vanara. Meghanatha turned towards Rama and poured out harsh words, he utilized all those weapons/Asthra and Shathras against the Lord, but all those weapons were nullified and failed to intimidate the Lord, moreover it was easily destroyed before it could reach him.  Meghanatha realized the might of Lord Rama, none of his Asthras or Sasthras were working against the Lord, so he began to utilize the illusionary powers that was successfully retaliated by the Lord, as if the snakes attack Garuda was brought under control as  a mere sport.

The mighty demons hurled the mountains and vicious weapons on the Vanaras and bears, the battlefield crammed with loud noises of rattling of weapons, cries and shriek of demons and Vanaras, resembled the clouds at the time of deluge. The fierce Vanaras and bears seized the demons on their leg ripped off their bodies wounded them brutally, they hurled huge mountains on the fortress that killed several demons who were stood as guardian of the fortress. Meghanatha understood that the army of Raghu has invaded the palace and destroyed most of their warriors, he rushed out to meet his enemies on the battlefield. Meghanatha shrieked in fury “Where is that two hermits? Where is that two brothers of Kosala who are spoken highly in the three worlds? Where is Nala, Neela, Dhvidha, Sugriva, Angadha, and Hanuman, and the powerful warriors? Where is Vibheeshana, a traitor to his elder brother? I will kill all of them.” He drew his powerful bow and stretched up to ears, and shot several arrows resembled serpents aiming at the Vanaras. Soon, all the Vanaras taken a flight to different directions, some of them were brutally injured, none of the Vanaras or bears was seen on the battlefield and it turned empty.
