Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Kishkindha Kanda – The peace agreement between Rama and Sugrivah

Chapter – 5– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Kishkindha Kanda– The peace agreement between Rama and Sugrivah

Hanuman related all the troubles of both the sides of Rama and Sugriva, he constructed a sacred fire as a witness before them and thus Rama and Sugriva entered a peace agreement to help each other in trouble. Lakshman narrated all that happened in the life of Rama, listening to that Sughrivah spoke with teary eyes “Oh! Prabho, we will find out Devi Janaki the daughter of Janaka, I still remember on one occasion I was sitting with my ministers, I have heard the loud cries of Devi Janaki shrieking for help calling out “Oh! Rama, Oh! Rama, Oh! Rama”, and she has dropped some clothes.” Rama asked for the clothes Devi Sita has dropped from the air, immediately Sugrivah handed them, Rama kept closer to his chest and wept bitterly. Sugriva spoke “Oh! Lord of Raghu, do not grieve over the separation from Devi Janaki, be confident and courageous, I shall invest all my efforts, and will make sure to bring back Devi Sita safely to you.”

Chapter – 4– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Kishkindha Kanda– The King of monkey worriers Kapipathi Sugrivah greeted Rama and Lakshman

Rama spoke “Oh! You are an ardent devotee of mine, you are steadfast, you are the sincere servant of that supreme Bhramam who is the Lord of animate and inanimate things in the Universe.” Hanuman, the son of Lord Vayu, got rid of all his apprehensions and grief, rejoiced at heart, and began to speak “Oh! Prabho, your servant the chief of Monkeys, King Sugrivah lives on the peak of Rishyamukha, kindly make friendship with him, he is too grieving, kindly protect him from afflictions. He will appoint millions of his army of monkeys to all directions in search of Devi Janaki.” Thus, Hanuman explained all about Sugrivah, and carried Rama and Lakshman on his shoulders, and proceeded to Rishyamukha Parvatham.  As soon as Sugrivah witnessed Prabhu Sri Ram, he felt he has achieved the fruitfulness of his eyes, he reverentially greeted the Lord and prostrated before him, Rama raised Sugrivah from the ground and embraced, and Lakshman also embraced Sugrivah. The Kapipathi, chief of the Monkey King Sugrivah thought “will they make friends with me?”

Chapter – 3– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Kishkindha Kanda– Hanuman eulogizes the splendor of supreme Lord Rama

Hanuman speaks “Oh! Prabho, I am ignorant and dull-witted, you are none other than the supreme Lord who is the protector of distressed Jeeva, you are almighty Lord kind and compassionate to Jeeva, you had forgotten me. Oh! Prabho, I am an impure Jeeva, do not ignore me. Oh! Prabho, the Jeeva drenched in your Maya, can be protected only with your grace, I do not know how to worship you or sing in praise of you, or I don’t know how to please you. Oh! Lord of Raghu, the child taken shelter in mother’s lap and the servant taken shelter in his Master gets freed from fear and anxiousness.” Hanuman fallen at the feet of Lord Raghu overwhelmed with various emotions and assumed his own real form as a monkey. The Lord of Raghu raised Hanuman from the ground, and embraced him tightly, and comforted him wiping off his tears running down his cheeks.  Rama spoke “Oh! Hanuman, listen to me carefully, do not get distressed, you are twice as dear as Lakshman to me, I am impartial to all Jeeva, but my devotees are dearer to me because they have none other than me to protect.”

Chapter – 2– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Kishkindha Kanda– Rama introduces himself to Hanuman and enquires his whereabouts

Hanuman speaks “Oh! Prabho, are you the very cause of the Universe and its living and non-living things personified as humans? Are you the supreme Bhramam who is the destroyer of the ocean of mundane existence and reliever of the burden of the Earth?”.  Lord Rama began to speak pleasingly “Oh! Bipra, we are the sons of illustrious King Dhasharatha of Kingdom of Ayodhya, we have arrived in the woods to follow the command of our father. We are Rama and Lakshman, we have been accompanied by the beautiful princess of Mithila, Devi Sita who is the daughter of King of Vidheha was abducted by the demons. Oh! Brahmin, we are in search of my beloved consort Devi Vaidhehi. Oh! Bhramin, we have detailed all information about us, now describe everything about you.” Hanuman recognized it was none other than his beloved Lord, soon he prostrated before Rama and clasped his feet. Lord Mahadeva speaks “Oh! Devi Uma, the joy of Hanuman was beyond description, a sudden rush of thrill ran through his limbs, his voice stuck on the throat, he gazed at the lovely appearance of Rama and Lakshman without blinking eyes in a state of ecstasy, shortly regained his consciousness, realized that he has found his Lord and sang in praise of him.” Hanuman spoke fervently “Oh! Prabho, I was under the influence of your unconquerable Maya, so I have illusioned, questioned you like an ordinary living being, hence I have failed to recognize my beloved Lord.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Kishkindha Kanda – The initial prayers – Hanuman disguised as Vipra meets Rama and Lakshman at the Mount Rishyamukha

Chapter – 1– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Kishkindha Kanda– The initial prayers – Hanuman disguised as Vipra meets Rama and Lakshman at the Mount Rishyamukha

I shall prostrate before the supreme Lord Rama who has great effulgence, he has the luster of Jasmine flower and blue lotus, he is the repository of wisdom, wielded in bow and arrow, eulogized by Shruthi/Veda, he is beloved of Go/cow, and Vipra/Brahmin, personified as the son of Dhasharatha with his inseparable Maya, in the illustrious clan of Raghu, in order to reinstate Dharma, he wandered all over the woods in search of his beloved consort Devi Sita, like an ordinary human, may that supreme Lord provide intense devotion at his lotus feet!

I shall meditate upon the Supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra, the fortunate are the ones who relentlessly meditate and contemplate upon the sacred name ‘Rama’ resembles the nectar, the supreme Bhramam personified as Rama in order to eradicate the impurities of the Kali era, the sacred name ‘Rama’ dwells in the lustrous moon-like face of Lord Shambhu, it is the remover of anxieties and fears of worldly existence and repeated births, it provides welfare and happiness, and Ramanama is the life source of Devi Janaki.

Oh! Mind, why do not you take shelter in the sacred Varanasi, which is the supreme abode Lord Shambhu and Devi Bhavani, knowing that it is the final beatitude, an ultimate asylum that provides liberation from worldly existence, and the storehouse of wisdom and knowledge? Oh! Ignorant Jeeva, why don’t you worship Lord Shambhu along with Goddess Bhavani, who drank the toxic poison that emerged while churning the milky ocean for the nectar of immortality, and thereby protected the entire Universe? Who else is merciful as Lord Shankara?

Lord of Raghu proceeded towards Mount Rishyamukha, where Sugreevah, the King of Monkey warriors lived with his ministers. Sughrivah noticed the two valorous and charming youths, one in dark cloud complexioned and another one in golden complexion, approaching the Rishyamukha Parvatha, he was exceedingly alarmed and spoke to Hanuman “Oh! Hanuman, the two youths are the embodiment of valor and beauty approaching Rishyamukha, you assume the form of a young Bhramin disciple and meet them, find out their intention to arrive in this part of the wood, and inform me with your usual gestures. If they have been assigned by Vali, I should leave the Rishyamukha Parvatha immediately.” Shortly, Hanuman disguised as Vipra, appeared before Rama and Lakshman and spoke “Oh! Prabho, who are you? Why are you Kshathriyas disguised as hermits and wandering all over the woods? Oh! Prabho, why are taking so much trouble to walk on the hard pathways in the woods? Oh! Prabho, you both are having a charming appearance, and beautiful limbs, why are you taking pain in wandering in the harsh climates of the woods? Oh! Prabho, do you belong to trinities, Lord Bhrama, the creator Lord Vishnu, the preserver, and Lord Shiva, the destroyer? Or Are you that illustrious sage Nara and Narayana?”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Aranya Kanda – Rama continues to describe the characteristics of an asectic - Phalashruthi:

Chapter – 45– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Aranya Kanda–Rama continues to describe the characteristics of an ascetic - Phalashruthi:

Rama continues to describe the characteristics of an ascetics to Maharishi Narada “Oh! Mahathma, 1) the ascetics are the abode of virtues, moralities, disciplines, truthfulness, free from the Dhvandhabhava/dualities of sorrow and happiness, grief and joy, pain and pleasure, gain and loss, good and evil, etc. These ascetics are my ardent devotees, undertake Shamadhamadhi, austerities, Japa and Thapa, etc. lack body consciousness, abandon their body, worldly matters, attachment to possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives as Thrina/grass. 2) They would love to hear the praise of others, but gets bashful if anyone praises their virtues 3) They are serene and blissful, always follow righteousness 4) They are innocent, kind, and compassionate by nature 5) They undertake strict austerities, Japa, Thapa to achieve complete control over senses 6) They are devoted at the lotus feet of preceptors/Guru, Govind, and Bipra/Brahmins.  7) They are forgiving nature, extremely kind and compassionate, blissful at all circumstances, and a true devotee of mine. Oh! Maharishi 8) These ascetics are the repository of virtues, modesty, deep knowledge in Veda, Shastra and Purana, and Paramarththa Thaththva. 9) They are free from the impurities of mind such as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, do not set their foot in immoral deed not even by mistake. 10) They are free from the interest in worldly matters, singing and listening to my glorious myth, and perform charities without expecting any personal gain. Oh! Maharishi, the virtues of ascetics are endless, which cannot be eulogized even by Goddess Sarada or Vedas.”

Maharishi Narada fallen at the lotus feet of the Lord and clasped his feet, listening to the conclusion of his speech ‘even Goddess Sarada and Veda are incompetent to praise the splendor of ascetics’.  In this way, the most compassionate Lord described the virtues of his ardent devotees with his own lips. Maharishi Narada repeatedly prostrated at the lotus feet of Lord Raghu and returned to Bhramaloka. Sage Tulsidas says ‘The fortunate are the ones who take complete shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Rama.”

Whoever sings or listens to the glorious legend of the enmity of Ravana, would be rewarded with steadfast devotion at the lotus feet of Rama, without undertaking the Bairagya/dispassion, Japa, Thapa, austerities, etc. The lust for physical pleasure with the woman brings the fate of butterfly died in the burning flame, the women represent the blazing fire and the lust for women brings the fate of moth died in the flame. Oh! Mortals, abandon the lust, desire, and pride, and meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra.
