Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Sage Vashishta instructs King Janaka to take a decision good for the people of Mithila and Ayodhya

Chapter – 285– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Vashishta instructs King Janaka to take a decision good for the people of Mithila and Ayodhya

Sage Vashishta spoke fervently “Oh! Rama, you are Prana/soul in the Jeeva, you are the source of happiness and auspiciousness, Oh! Dear child, whoever afar from you is unfortunate, it was their bad luck. Oh! Rama, performance of rites without pure love or devotion at your lotus feet is worthless. The Yogic practices, knowledge in scriptures and Veda, austerities, vows, etc. without devotion at your lotus feet is unfruitful, you are the source of happiness to Jeeva, hence whoever devoted at your lotus feet with the knowledge of self/Athma is Paramatha, lives in bliss, on the other hand, whoever drenched in ignorance, soaked in worldly matters and chasing pleasures are destined to be unhappy. Oh! Rama, you are the knower of all, you reside as a soul in the Jeeva, you are that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam, the wise and learned are Bhramajjani, like the well brimming with the water, hence they immerse in the supreme bliss always. You may return to your hermitage now.” Sage Vashishta was overpowered with various emotions and paused for a while, Rama prostrated before the sage and left. Sage Vashishta summoned King Janaka, and both of them engaged in pleasant conversations, Sage Vashishta spoke “Oh! Maharaj, do whatever good for the people of Ayodhya and Mithila according to the Dharma.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Rama finds it difficult to watch the troubles of two families surviving in the forest

Chapter – 284– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama finds it difficult to watch the troubles of two families surviving in the forest

King Janaka spoke “ Oh! Devi, Bharatha cannot even dream of overthrow the command of Rama, Oh! Devi, we need not be anxious at all.” King paused for a while searching for words, his voice broken due to affection for Bharatha. Thus, King Janaka and Devi Sunayana spoke about the virtues, amiability, and love of Rama and Bharatha for long hours did not notice the passing of time. At the daybreak, the people of Ayodhya and Mithila proceeded to perform ablutions and worship of the deities. Rama performed the morning rite and met his preceptors Sage Vashishta and Vamadeva, prostrated before them, and began to speak after receiving permission “Oh! Prabho, Bharatha, my mothers, and the people of Ayodhya are grief-stricken, spending days in the woods in limited comfort. The King of Mithila, his family, preceptors, and his people are surviving in the woods for the past few days, are tired of a long journey. Therefore, kindly do whatever feasible to reduce their mental and physical afflictions, the welfare of all lies in your hands.” Rama stood before the preceptors amiably. Sage Vashishta and Vamadeva were highly impressed with the kind disposition of Rama, began to speak “Oh! Rama, without your presence the amenities in the royal palaces are hell for both the families.”

Chapter – 283– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka praises the pure love and devotion of Bharatha

King Janaka spoke thoughtfully “Oh! Devi, Bharatha is incomparable, his virtues, nobleness, amiability, are beyond comparison. Is it possible to compare the intellect of a poet with Mount Sumeru? Oh! Devi, whoever makes an attempt to describe the virtues would get baffled, like the fish that cannot dive on the dry land. Oh! Rani, Bharatha’s enormous glories are known to Rama, although he could not describe them in words.” King Janaka spoke lovingly watching the Queen “If Lakshman returns to Ayodhya, it would be appropriate for Bharatha to follow Rama to the woods, it would be good for all and that is what everyone desires. Oh! Devi, the mutual affection and confidence shared between Bharatha and Rama is beyond perception, even though Rama is the essence of calmness, Bharatha is the essence of pure love and devotion. Oh! Devi, Bharatha is guileless, what I have understood that Bharatha is free from spiritual, material, or worldly desires, he believes pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama is the one and only ultimate object of life.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – King Janaka describes the splendor of Bharatha to Devi Sunayana

Chapter – 282– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka describes the splendor of Bharatha to Devi Sunayana

Devi Sita remained in the embrace of her parents for some time and bade farewell to them. Devi Sunayana found it is the appropriate moment to have a word with the King about the state of Bharatha which was earlier discussed by Devi Kausalya. King Janaka heard the amiable and virtuous disposition of Bharatha, and his pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama from Devi Sunayana which made his eyes overflow with tears, transported to a state of ecstasy, King Janaka began to speak passionately “Oh! Sumukhi, Oh! Sulochani, listen to me carefully, the legend of Bharatha and his commendable virtues, devotion, and love are capable to release the Jeeva from the grief of worldly existence. Even though I have acquired in-depth knowledge in political science, knowledge of self/Bhramam and scriptures, alas! none of my knowledge would be able to touch the shadow of Bharatha’s glory, hence I could not describe the splendor of Bharatha. The glory of Bharatha surpasses the purity and nectar-like the sweetness of celestial river Ganga, it is highly revered and considered as meritorious by Lord Bhrama, Lord Shesha, Goddess Sharadha, Lord Ganesha, Lord Shambhu, learned, wise, Bhramajjanis, ascetics, and noble souls.”

Chapter – 281– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka praising the virtues of Devi Sita

Devi Sita was deeply moved to watch her parents in anxiousness, soon the mother of the Earth has regained her normal self and remembered her noble duties to her consort and in-laws. King Janaka behold his dearest daughter in a saffron robe, overwhelmed with anxiousness and love, spoke affectionate words “Oh! Puthri/daughter, you have brought sanctity to both the families, everyone highly praises your virtues and amiability, your fame has outshone the celestial river Ganga, penetrated through the clan of Raghu’s and spreading light to the millions of Universes, while the celestial river Ganga exalted her glories in three worlds, the stream of your fame has added glories to the several ascetics, and noble souls.” King Janaka abundantly praised the virtues of Devi Sita that made her drown in the sea of bashfulness. King Janaka and Devi Sunayana embraced Devi Sita, advised her duties and responsibilities as the consort of Rama and her mother’s-in-law once again, and showered an abundance of blessings. Devi Sita did not speak a word.  Devi Sita felt it not advisable to stay with them leaving her consort and mothers-in-law at these inauspicious hours of mourning, she became uncomfortable to stay in the hermitage of her parents that night. Devi Sunayana read the mind of her daughter, and discussed the same with King Janaka, both of them admired the generosity and noble disposition of Devi Sita.

Chapter – 280– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Janaka meets Devi Janaki attired in saffron robe in his hermitage

Devi Sunayana repeatedly prostrated at the feet of Devi Kausalya and asked permission to take Devi Sita with her that night, thus Devi Sunayana and Devi Sita returned to their hermitage of Janaka after obtaining permission from Devi Kausalya. Devi Sita greeted all her family members, friends, and attendants with great affection, everyone was heartbroken watching Devi Janaki attired in a saffron robe, and adorned in prayer beads. In the meantime, King Janaka obtained permission from Sage Vashishta and returned to his hermitage where he found his beloved daughter Janaki, his eyes welled up in tears, with the heart full of love, resembled the sacred Prayaga. Janaka’s affection for Janaki grown like a huge banyan tree, with lots of branches like love for Rama. The immortal Sage Markandeya like the wisdom of Janaka was bewildered, going to drown in the ocean of love for Janaki, was fortunately protected by the love for Rama, thus the affection for Rama and Devi Sita won over the wisdom of the King.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Devi Sunayana recollects the predictions of Sage Yajjavalkya

Chapter – 279– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Sunayana recollects the predictions of Sage Yajjavalkya

Devi Kausalya spoke in a soft voice “Oh! Devi Sunayana, kindly return to your hermitage, the Almighty Lord is the shelter to us, and Lord of Mithila is most promising to us.” Devi Sunayana prostrated at the feet of Devi Kausalya, listening to her kind and affectionate speech, she clasped the feet of Devi Kausalya and spoke “Oh! Venerable queen, you are kind and compassionate as the wife of great King Dhasharatha and the mother of Rama. The virtuous people treat the servants with kindness and respect like fire always followed with the smoke, huge mountains bear the grass on their bosom. Oh! Devi, King Janaka is your sincere attendant by word, mind, and deed, while the supreme Lord Shambhu and his consort Bhavani is your eternal savior. Who is on this Earth worthy to serve your clan? An ordinary lamp may spread light, but cannot compete with the Sunlight. Oh! Devi, Rama, and Devi Sita will successfully complete the exile period of fourteen years in the forest, thereby accomplish the tasks of the deities, after that, they will return to the Ayodhya safely. Oh! Devi, Sage Yajjavalkya has already prophesied about Rama’s exile, after proving the strength of his arms to the deities, Nagas, and humans, Rama will take up the regime as the King of Ayodhya, and peacefully live in his abode. The predictions of the illustrious Sage Yajjavalkya never go untrue.”
