Chapter – 219– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Sita describes her dream to Rama that makes the Lord uneasy

The joy and devotion of Bharatha was impossible to describe even for the thousand tongued Adishesha, and it was impossible for the poets who lack the Bhramajjanam, and the Jeeva drenched in impurities of Ahamkara, and Mamakara, lust, desire, ego, anger, jealousy, and pride. That day, they were overpowered by mixed emotions, hence they could cover only four miles before the sunset, they have halted on the riverbank, on the next morning they have begun the journey at the daybreak. On the other side, Rama was all awake in the night, Devi Sita dreamt of Bharatha who was tormented by the pain of separation from Rama, traveling with the people of Ayodhya to the forest, also found the people accompanied Bharatha was extremely miserable, she has noticed the change of appearance of her mothers-in-law as well. Rama shed tears listening to the dream of Devi Sita, the supreme Lord who wipe off the tears of the Jeeva soaked in tears of grief “This dream is not a good sign at all, somebody will break the unfavorable news.” Thus, Rama left with his young brother for early morning ablutions and offered worship to Lord Tripurari, offered obeisance to the hermits of Chitrakoot.

That night Bharatha and the people of Ayodhya halted in the forest, and began their journey in the early hours of dawn, contemplating upon the lotus feet of Lord Raghu, like Bharatha all those were eager to meet Rama. All their way, they have experienced various auspicious omens, their eyes and arms were quivering as a favorable sign, Bharatha and the people were too enthusiastic to meet Rama and get rid of their pain of separation from the Lord. All the people have rejoiced at heart, engaged in various activities, their limbs were out of control, overwhelmed with various emotions, and spoke words of intense devotion and love for Rama, as if they have consumed the intoxicating drink of love for Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita. Guha, the closest associate of Rama, pointed out the beautiful Mount Kamadhagiri, the crest-jewel of Chithrakoot to Bharatha, where the two brothers living with Devi Sita, located on the riverbank of Payaswini. The very sight of the mount Kamadhagiri kindled joy in the people, they prostrated in the direction of the Mountain and cheered “Hail Rama along with Devi Sita ! Hail Rama along with Devi Sita! Hail Rama along with Devi Sita ! Hail Rama, Lakshman along with Devi Sita!” The people accompanied were thrilled at heart as if they have landed in the  Kingdom of Ayodhya.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The villagers felt fortunate to meet Bharatha and Shathrughna

Chapter – 217– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The villagers felt fortunate to meet Bharatha and Shathrughna

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “ Oh! Mune, whoever witnessed Bharatha, Shathrughna along with the people of Ayodhya journeying through the dense wood felt the auspicious Prayaga made its way to the forest for their easy reach, for the people Simhala. Bharatha kept walking through the pathways contemplating upon Rama, listening to the praise of the people about him and Rama. He took bath in all the holy rivers on their way, prostrated before the shrines and hermitages on his way, with a single request of a boon to achieve pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama. Whoever he met with, be it Kola, Kiratha, hermit, disciple, people practicing austerities, Bharatha offered salutations to them and enquired the whereabouts of Rama, Lakshman and Devi Sita, in return they detailed the journey of Rama, Lakshman along with Devi Sita, and felt that they have achieved the reward of life meeting Bharatha. The people who met Bharatha in the woods were considered Rama and Lakshman as dear as their lives, hence they spoke in a sweet accent to the pleasant inquiries of Bharatha.”

Chapter – 216– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The villagers on pathways admire the virtues and blamelessness of Bharatha

The women assembled began to praise the virtues, amiability, nobility of Bharatha “Oh! Dear friends, Bharatha was entrusted with the ruling of the Kingdom of Ayodhya by his father, even though he is conducting a journey barefoot to the woods to take back Lord of Raghu, Rama to Ayodhya, he is living on fruits and rooted vegetables like a hermit, who can be equal to Bharatha? whoever listens or speaks about Bharatha’s love and devotion to his brother would dispel the grief of worldly existence. Oh! Dear friends, Bharatha is most venerable, words are not adequate to praise his virtues and discipline. It is no wonder that he has inherited all those virtues of Lord Rama. Oh! Dear friends, whoever behold the beauty and loveliness of Bharatha and Shathrughna would achieve the fruitfulness of their lives. The sinful Devi Kaikeyi does not worth the virtuous Bharatha as her son.”  Someone said “Devi Kaikeyi should not be blamed for all those mishaps; it was the willingness of Almighty Lord. The Veda and scriptures emphasize that the women are born with the impurities, they are not allowed to perform any Vedic rites, hence who will dwell in the region of the wretched village located in the accursed region, like the women? Oh! Friends, all these should be taken into notice before imposing blame on Devi Kaikeyi.” In this way, the villagers of their way rejoiced at heart witnessing Bharatha and the people of Ayodhya, like the auspicious Kalpatharu sprung on the desert.

Chapter – 215– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The villagers on the pathway to the Chitrakoot admire the beauty and the amiability of Bharatha and Shathrughna

The villagers on the pathways stood watching the splendor of the huge crowd, could not take their eyes off from the loveliness of Bharatha, Shathrughna, preceptors, and royal families accompanied by the people of Ayodhya, thus they achieved fruitfulness of their lives. They have abandoned their families and work, stood watching the crowd without blinking their eyes, were transported to a state of ecstasy. The women assembled conversed with each other affectionately “Oh! Dear friends, Is that Rama and Lakshman? They are extremely charming, great physique, one has the complexion of dark cloud and another one is fair complexioned, their age, amiability, companionship and the bond between them resemble Rama and Lakshman. Alas! their attire does not seem the same as when they were accompanied by Devi Sita to the forest. Oh! Friends, have you noticed Bharatha and Shathrughna are followed by the Chathurangasena/four folds of army men, chariots, elephants and horses, etc. they are not all cheerful or enthusiastic, all of them are gloomy that makes me think, whether they are Rama and Lakshman or not?” The group of the women was pleased to hear the comment of their friend, congratulated her with their sweet accent.  Further, she narrated the whole incident of the festivities in connection with the crowning ceremony, and how the coronation ceremony of Rama was postponed, she further praised the generosity, virtues, amiability, and devotion of Bharatha at the lotus feet of Rama.

Chapter – 214– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Bharatha and the people of Ayodhya journeying to Chitrakoot

Bharatha and the people of Ayodhya arrived on the riverbank of Yamuna, looked at the beautiful dark cloud water currents of the river that resembles the attractive limbs of Rama, pushed them to the ocean of grief from the separation of Rama, which could be relieved from the wisdom/Bhramajjanam/Athmavidhya. That day, Bharatha, and the people of Ayodhya halted on the riverbank of Yamuna and all of them were lodged into the comfortable shelter homes of their choices.  In the dark hours of the night, there were several ferries arrived on the riverbank, thus in the early daybreak, all the people boarded on the ferries and crossed the river, everyone was highly pleased with Nishadharaja Guha and his tribal people for their relentless services. The two brothers after reaching on the other side of the riverbank, took ablutions, and performed the morning rite, and followed Guha to the Chitrakoot. The chariots, palanquin, carts, vehicles, horses, elephants were arranged in a splendid manner, all those royal family members and preceptors on the forefront, followed by Bharatha and Shathrughna barefoot, attired in simple clothes and adorned in minimum jewels, further they were accompanied by ministers, sons of ministers, warriors, people of Ayodhya, etc. contemplating upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra and Devi Sita and Lakshman. They have offered humble salutations to the places where Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita taken shelter or paused their journey while traveling to Chitrakoot.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Sage Bhrihaspathi pacifies Lord Indra – Bharatha shedding tears of grief watching the dark water currents of Yamuna

Chapter – 213– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Bhrihaspathi pacifies Lord Indra – Bharatha shedding tears of grief watching the dark water currents of Yamuna

Sage Bhrihaspathi spoke “Oh! Lord Indra, Lord Rama’s devotees are kind and compassionate, always wish for the welfare and happiness of others, Bharatha is the Chinthamani/precious gem among the devotees of Lord Rama, therefore do not get afraid of Bharatha. Lord Rama is truthful and keeps up his promise to his devotees and deities. Bharatha sincerely follows the command of Rama, you are dominated by your self-interest, that’s why you are feeling uneasy. Bharatha should not be blamed for your self-interest, it is your ignorance causing grief and anxiousness to you.” The King of deities, Lord Indra overjoyed listening to the nectar-like words of Sage Bhrihaspathi, soon got rid of anxiousness and grief. The celestials and deities praised the devotion of Bharatha and rained flowers. Bharatha proceeded to wood spreading extreme delight and devotion, the Sidhdhas, Rishis, and Sages envied watching the love and devotion of Bharatha at the lotus feet of Rama. Whenever Bharatha whispered the word ‘Rama’ and relieved the sigh of grief, it was felt like the rush of love from the ten directions. Even the firm-minded and rocks melted watching the love of Bharatha for his beloved brother, the love of the people who followed Bharatha was beyond description. Finally, they halted on the riverbank of Yamuna, Bharatha stood watching the dark-colored water currents of Yamuna, his eyes filled with tears remembering the attractive dark cloud-complexioned limbs of Rama.
