Chapter – 109– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama leaves the hermitage of Sage Bharadhwaja after receiving permission from the Sage

 

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Mune, that day Rama halted in the hermitage of Sage Bharadhwaja, at the early hours of daybreak, he took ablutions in Theertharaj Prayaga on the auspicious confluence of Ganga and Yamuna offered humble salutation to the Sage, and spoke in a soft tone “Oh! Mahathma, kindly advise me which route should I proceed my journey?’ The Sage smiled at heart and replied “Oh! Prabho, all routes are familiar to you, and everything is accessible to you.” Soon Sage Bharadhwaja called for his disciple and instructed them to lead Rama to the woods, a fifty of them gathered before Rama, each one was thrilled to follow Rama to the woods, everyone replied in chorus their willingness to join with Rama. Finally, Sage Bharadhwaja has chosen four virtuous disciples who has practiced several austerities and achieved immense piousness in their several births to follow Rama to the woods. Rama prostrated before the Sage, after receiving his permission proceeded journey with great pleasure along with Devi Sita, Lakshman, and Guha to the woods. While they were crossing villages, the men, women, children, and elderly people of the village gazed at them in deep admiration, thus, they have achieved the fruitfulness of their birth, and returned to their homes unwillingly.

Chapter – 108– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The people of Prayaga arrives to meet Rama and Lakshman in the hermitage of Sage Bharadhwaja

 

Sage Bharadhwaja spoke fervently “Oh! Prabho, Jeeva cannot experience happiness or dream of it until and unless they are devoted to you by words, mind, and deeds. Oh! Prabho, any deeds or Kriya without pure love and devotion at your lotus feet is unfruitful." Rama felt shy listening to the praise of Sage Bharadhwaja, felt immensely happy at the devotion of the Sage. The chief of Raghu spoke amiably “Oh! Highly revered sage, he is the essence of virtues, he is the reservoir of auspiciousness and happiness.” In great joy, they put a pause to the praise of the supreme Bhramam personified as Rama. Soon the whole of Prayagaraja spread the news of the arrival of two charming princes of King Dhasharatha, shortly the people of Prayaga, ascetics, elderly people, children, men, and women gathered to meet the princes of Ayodhya in the hermitage of Sage Bharadhwaja. Lord Rama greeted the crowd with a pleasing smile, and the crowd assembled were achieved the fruitfulness of their eyes. The ascetics, noble souls have blessed the princes with great joy, and devour the beauty of the two princes with their fortunate eyes.

The illustrious Sage Baradhwaja perceived that the supreme Bhramam personified as Rama arrived to meet him in the woods, as a reward for his several years of penance and austerities. Sage Bharadhwaja reverentially invited Rama, Sita, and Lakshman to the hermitage offered seats to them. The compassionate Sage enquired about the welfare of Rama and served the guests with fruits and fiber roots of nectar-like sweetness. Rama, Lakshmana, Devi Sita and Guha partook the fruits served by the Sage, thus Rama felt relieved from the tiredness of the journey, the Sage addressed Rama in a soft tone “Oh! Rama, I have achieved the meritorious rewards of austerities, Tapasya, celibacy, pilgrimages, etc. I have achieved the fruit of meditation in the form of dispassion/Bairagya, all my religious practices and rites have been given a reward in the form of your visit to my hermitage. Oh! Rama, your visit to my hermitage made my Thapasya fruitful, there is no joy or achievement more than this in my life. Oh! Prabho, kindly provide me a boon to achieve pure love and devotion at your lotus feet.”

The fortunate Sadhus and Sant Mahathma serve the King and attain the Purusharththa, the Vedas and scriptures highly eulogize the glories of Theertharaja Prayag. The splendor of Prayaga is beyond description, how can the herd of elephants like sins withstand before the lion Theertharaja? The chief of Raghu is an ocean of bliss was highly delighted to visit the Theertharaja, further described the greatness of Prayag to Devi Sita and Lakshman and Guha. Rama offered obeisance to Theertharaj and looked around the beautiful lush green land and woods, at once they have achieved the grace of the Lord. He arrived at the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna, the very thought of it would provide auspiciousness, Rama took a holy dip in the Triveni, worshiped Lord Shiva and the presiding deity Bindumadhava in a prescribed ritual. Rama took a visit to Sage Bharadhwaja, fallen at the feet of the Sage was raised from the ground and he embraced Rama with intense love. The joy of Sage Bharadhwaja at the visit of Rama was beyond description, he achieved Bhramanandham watching the splendor of Rama.

Lord Rama invoked Lord Ganesha, Lord Shambhu with the prayers and prostrated before river Ganga, and proceed to dense wood followed by Devi Sita, Lakshman, and Guha. That day, Lord Rama slept under the tree, Guha and Lakshman provided all the available comforts to the Lord. At the daybreak, Lord Rama performed the morning rites and proceeded to the King of holy Theertha Prayaga, this King has beloved consorts Sathya and Shradhdha, and promising friend Lord Bindumadhava. The Theertharaja Prayaga is the provider of Purusharththa,/Dharma, Arththa, Kama, and Moksha, the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna makes it more beautiful. The Theertharaja is inaccessible to the wicked, and all those sacred places surrounded by the Prayagraj are the valiant warriors of the Theertharaja, capable to destroy all the sins of the Jeeva. The confluence of Ganga and Yamuna represent throne, the Akshaya Vatavruksha represents the umbrella on the top of the throne, captivate the heart of Sages. The water current of Ganga and Yamuna are Chowries, the very sight of the Prayagaraja removes the sins and the interest in worldly matters.

Devi Ganga spoke “Oh! Vaidhehi, all your wishes shall come true, you shall safely return to Ayodhya with your beloved Lord and his younger brother, after successfully accomplishing the task and your glories shall spread across the Universe.” Devi Sita was delighted to hear the most promising nectar-like blessings of Devi Ganga. Lord Rama advised Guha to return to his village Shringaberipura, Guha’s face turned pale, all his joy vanished from the heart, felt distressed. Guha with folded hands addressed the Lord in pitiful words “Oh! Prabho, kindly listen to my prayers, Oh! Raghuvamsamani, kindly allow me to live with you, I shall take you through the dense woods, and let me serve you for another few days, I shall construct a beautiful hut of creepers and leaves for your stay in the woods. Oh! Lord of Raghu, after constructing a hut, you can ask me to leave or stay according to your wish.” Rama was highly pleased to watch the pure love of Guha and permitted him to stay in the woods for another few days. Guha felt immensely happy, called for his kinsmen, and advised them to proceed to their homes.

Devi Sita and Lakshman prompted the ferryman to take his fare, but he refused to accept anything in return, the compassionate Lord provided him pure devotion as a boon and send him off. Lord Rama took a bath in the river Ganga, and a Shivalinga made out of the sand, they worshiped Lord Shiva. Devi Sita earnestly prayed to Devi Ganga “Oh! Mother, kindly accomplish our desires and bless me for a safe return with my beloved Lord and his younger brother, so that we can worship you.” After listening to the nectar-like prayers of Devi Sita, a divine voice originated from the water currents of Ganga “ Oh! Vaidhehi, the beloved consort of Lord of Raghu Sri Ramachandra, who is not aware of your glory? Whoever worships you achieves the greatest of fortune, achieves the status of master of heavens quarters at your auspicious glance, and they inherit all supernatural powers at your divine glance. Oh! Vaidhehi you have offered humble prayers and raised my glories. Oh! The most venerable one, bless you in return.”
