Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – Rama absorbed at the thoughts of the loveliness of Devi Janaki

Chapter – 230– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Rama absorbed at the thoughts of the loveliness of Devi Janaki

Rama reiterates “How can be Devi Sita compared to the moon who is born from the salty ocean, undergoes eclipse caused by the demons Rahu and Kethu, grow weak and has several dark spots on it, cannot be compared with the loveliness of the Janakanandhini who is the epitome of beauty, virtues, wisdom, and fortune. The moon undergoes the process of waxing and waning, afflicted by the demon Rahu, and constantly pushes the Chakravaha into despair, and causes to wither the lotus flower in the night. Moon has several impurities and faults in it; hence I cannot compare its beauty with the splendor of Devi Janaki. If anyone does that would reap the fruits of grave sin. Vidhehanandhini is incomparable and beyond description.” Thus, Rama was engrossed in various thoughts about the beauty of Devi Janaki, the night has advanced without his knowledge, Rama arrived in the chamber of the preceptor, prostrated before him, and withdrawn to his chamber. Rama woke up at the early break of dawn, looked at his brother, and spoke “Lakshman, the early hours of the sun has brought delight to the lotus flowers, Chakravaha, and to the whole world.” Lakshman began to speak gently with folded hands.

Chapter – 229– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda - Rama and Lakshman return to Maharishi Vishwamithra and spend the rest of the day in various activities

Devi Girija spoke “Oh! Devi Sita, the dark cloud-complexioned charming prince would be your wedded husband, you both are destined to be together, and the all-pervasive Supreme Lord Rama highly appreciate your love, virtues, and beauty.” Devi Sita and her companions were left surprised to hear the nectar-like voice from the face of Goddess Girija. Devi Sita prostrated before the Goddess, again and again, returned to the palace with a heart full of joy and contentment. Devi Sita’s joy has no bound, after hearing the verdict from the lips of Goddess Gauri, her left limbs began to quiver like a sign of auspiciousness. Oh! Mune, the two brothers highly praising the marvelous beauty of Devi Sita returned to Maharishi Vishwamithra. Soon, Rama related all those that happened in the garden to his preceptor. Sage Vishwamithra was highly pleased to watch the pure nature of Rama, and he received flowers collected from the garden and blessed Rama wholeheartedly “Let all your wishes come true.” Rama and Lakshman returned happily from the chamber of Preceptor. Rama and Lakshmana partook meals with the Sages, ascetics, Rishis, twice-born, and they all began to discuss various legends from the scriptures. It was almost the hour of dusk, the two brothers got permission from the preceptor and went to perform the evening rites. Eventually, the darkness of the night has arrived, Rama spends hours watching the loveliness of the full moon that resembled the beauty of Devi Sita, immersed in her thought made him extremely joyful, shortly he regained his normal self and corrected himself to the darkness of night can’t be Devi Sita.

Devi Sita eulogized Goddess Gauri “Oh! Devi, you are supreme Goddess, highly devoted to your consort, you are the mother of Universe, you have endless glories, even Devi Sarada/Goddess of speech and the thousand tongued Adhishesha is incompetent to describe them. Oh! Devi, pure love and devotion at your lotus feet would bring Purusharththa/Dharma, Arththa, Kama, and Moksha to your worshiper. Oh! Devi, you are the source of welfare and happiness of Sura, Muni, Manushya, and all the living creatures. Oh! Devi, you are beloved of Lord Tripurari, and the bestower of boons to your devotees. Oh! Devi, you are the knower of all, resides as a soul in the Jeeva, hence I shall refrain from revealing my desires.” After praying so, the Vidheharajakumari clasped the feet of Goddess Girija. Soon, the flower garland adorned on the idol slipped out and fallen on the neck of Devi Sita, she could perceive the pleasing smile on the face of Goddess Girija. Devi Sita placed the flowers on the idol; Goddess Girija spoke in extreme delight “Oh! Devi Sita, my perpetual grace on you, and very soon all your wishes get fulfilled. Maharishi Narada’s words never go untrue, you are destined to be with your beloved Lord, hence you will unite with your consort very shortly.”

Devi Janaki was heading towards the palace with her companions, she was uncertain and restless, keep looking backward as if searching for peacocks, deer, birds in the garden, each time her eyes locked with the dark blue eyes of Lord Rama. Devi Janaki immersed at the thought of unyielding Shivadhanuss, that pushed her too nervous, unwillingly followed her companions placing the marvelous image of Lord Rama in her heart. Lord Rama was highly impressed with the Jagathjanani who symbolizes beauty, virtues, wisdom, and fortune, he portrayed her lovely image in his heart with the ink of love. Devi Sita approached the shrine of Devi Bhavani worshiped her lotus feet and sincerely prayed with folded hands “Oh! Devi Girija, daughter of Mount Himavan Oh! Bhavani, Victory to you! You represent the Chakora that yearningly look at the lustrous moon like the face of Lord Shiva. Oh! Bhavani, mother of elephant-faced Lord Ganesha, who is the remover of obstacles, and the mother of six faced Karithikeya who is the chief of the warriors of deity, you have great effulgence, you have neither beginning nor end, you are primeval deity, you have the resemblance of lightning, Vedas are incompetent to describe your glories. Oh! Devi, you are the cause for creation, preservation, and destruction, you entice the whole Universe with your marvelous beauty, you incarnate at your own will and perform various amusements.”

Chapter – 225– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda– Devi Janaki’s initial reaction after witnessing the supreme Lord Rama

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Mune, Rama who was enamored by the loveliness of Devi Sita, conversed in a soft tone to his dear brother Lakshman and revealed his unique feeling for Janakasutha, which was never experienced before, after watching the prettiness of the Janakanandhini Rama was completely absorbed in her thoughts, developed an unstoppable yearning as the honey bees that take pleasure in the freshly blossomed lotus flower. Devi Sita’s eyes were flickering, constantly searching for the presence of the blue-complexioned charming youth, her mind was agitated and was yearning to have a glimpse of that marvelous form again and again. One of her companions pointed out the two charming youths, one in dark cloud complexioned adorned in exquisite ornaments, attired in marvelous yellow silk, attractive limbs, broad chest, strong shoulders, conch shaped neck adorned in pearl ornaments, armlets, Kankan, waist ornament, etc. and another one in fair-complexioned equally charming like the elder one, both of them were absorbed in collecting flowers. Devi Janaki could not take eyes off from them, wished to achieve a glance from the dark-complexioned Rama, her eyes were already set on him, forgot to blink for a while. Devi Janakasutha forgot her very existence, stood motionless, like the Chakora bird yearning looking at the autumn moon. She devoured the charisma of that supreme Lord Rama with her beautiful wide eyes, and safely deposited his marvelous appearance in her heart, and cleverly shut her eyes as if the eyelids are the doors to her heart. The female companions realized the strong feelings of Devi Sita for the dark cloud complexioned prince, they stood speechless watching her.”
