Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – The self-immolation of Devi Sati in the Yogagni

Chapter – 63– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – The self-immolation of Devi Sati in the Yogagni

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “ Oh! Mune, the offensiveness to Lord Shambhu was unbearable for Dhakshayani, she could not control her anger against Dhaksha, and all those deities, sages, and Rishis assembled, rushed straight away to the assembly of sages, Rishis, and deities who were seated on the throne to witness the grand Yaga.  Dhakshayani was fuming with anger spoke “Oh! Illustrious Rishis, Sages, and deities, and elderly members of the assembly, listen to me carefully. You all will reap the fruits of your decisive plan against Lord Shambhu who is the ocean of mercy, Lord of Lords, and the essence of Universe, hence be ready to receive the fruit of your unfair practices, including my father Dhakshaprajapathi.  Whoever differentiates Hari and Hara or speaks ill about them should deserve severe punishment, if you have the courage either cut off their tongue or run away from the place closing both ears. The supreme Lord Tripurari who is the slayer of demons Tripura, is the Lord of the Universe, he is the father and mother of the Universe and its living and non-living things, and he is too compassionate and the source of welfare and auspicious to all. It is pitiful to watch my ignorant father made an attempt to bring disgrace to my Lord Shankara, I feel extremely shameful to carry this body benefited from the father who is wicked and deceitful, therefore I have decided to abandon this body once for all”.  Further, Jagathjanani Bhagavathi Paramba Devi Sati took a sanctified seat and announced “I shall contemplate upon that supreme Lord Mahadeva who is adorned in the crescent moon on beautiful reddish-brown matted hair locks, and abandoning this body attained from Dhaksha.” Thus, Devi Dhakshayani discarded her body in the Yogagni, as everyone was witnessing, brilliant energy rose from her body immersed in the sky.  Immediately huge cries rose from the grand assembly taken away all the attention.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – Devi Sati’s arrival causes displeasure in the palace of Dhaksha – Devi Sati’s fury after witnessing insult to Lord Shambhu

Chapter – 62– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Devi Sati’s arrival causes displeasure in the palace of Dhaksha – Devi Sati’s fury after witnessing insult to Lord Shambhu

“Lord Mahadeva understood Dhakshakumari is all prepared to meet her destiny, hence it is futile to argue with her, Lord Mahadeva Thripurari called out for his prominent Ganas and advised them to follow Devi Sati to her parental home with all the respect. Thus, Devi Sati was sent off from Mount Kailash escorted by the chief of Ganas to her parental home. Goddess Bhavani followed by the Ganas arrived in the Dhaksha’s palace where the deities, Rishis, and Sages in large numbers were assembled, she found there was no one to receive her with respect, all the attendants of Dhaksha turned away from the pathways were scared of strict orders from their Master, none has come forward to greet her, all that she could see displeasure in the face of people assembled after seeing her arrival. Her mother rushed on her feet and embraced Devi Sati and received her with great love, her sisters were greeted her with big smiles on their faces. Devi Sati’s arrival added fury of Dhaksha, he did not even take notice of her, kept busy commanding people in extreme anger, he was deliberately avoided any eye contact with Devi Sati, and he was extremely annoyed to see Devi Sati in the Yaga arena. Devi Sati Jagathjanani, Paramba, Bhagavathi did not bother to disturb him either, greeted him and went straight away to the Yaga arena, to take a look at the grand preparation for the rite, suddenly she noticed the oblations for the deities, was shocked to see there was no part of oblation kept for Lord Shambhu, all the deities have a fair share of their oblation except for Lord Shambhu. Immediately she remembered the advice of Lord Shambhu, her heart torn apart in a sudden rush of grief watching the insult to Lord Shankara, she was extremely tormented for being a part of the whole offense against Lord Shambhu. Devi Sati experienced the grief that was caused deep wound for several years has become nothing, but the most unfair and cruel deed from her father against the supreme Lord become unbearable, took away all her courage. Devi Sathi thought, Samsara is an unfathomable ocean of grief, Jeeva has to go through several kinds of agonies, and the decisive amongst is the humiliation from one’s own family, she could not control her anger. Devi Sati’s mother approached her with soothing words, but nothing was getting straight into her ears.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – Lord Mahadeva’s advice not to attend the grand Yaga of Prajapathi – Devi Sati rejects the advice of the Lord and proceed to meet her fate

Chapter – 61– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Lord Mahadeva’s advice not to attend the grand Yaga of Prajapathi – Devi Sati rejects the advice of the Lord and proceed to meet her fate

Devi Sati appealed to Lord Mahadev “Oh! Prabho, you are the ocean of mercy, I would like to attend the grand Yaga organized by my father Dhakshaprajapathi if you permit me to leave. It is one of the joyful occasions I would like to be with my family.” Lord Mahadeva replied thoughtfully “ Oh! Devi, your wish to attend on this auspicious occasion is justifiable, unfortunately, we haven’t received an invitation from your father. He has invited all of his daughters except you and me, considering us as his hostile. Once, he affronted me in the assembly of Lord Bhrama, and sharply criticized my behavior, hence he did not invite us for the Yaga. Oh! Bhavani, it is unwise to attend the place where you haven’t invited, if so all your grace, respect, and affection would fly with the wind. It is true that one should not wait for the formal invitation from father, Master, preceptor, and close friends. Oh! Devi, Dhakshaprajapathi has no concern about us, he is swollen with pride and anger, hence if you visit your parental home at this moment cannot reap any good, instead, it would bring inauspiciousness to you.” Further, Lord Shambhu made several attempts to convince Devi Sati to leave the very idea to visit her parental home was remained unnoticed, wisdom could not save her from the upcoming terrible fate. Devi Sati bluntly rejected all the advice of Lord Shambhu who was extremely anxious and concerned about her life, but Devi Sati was already prepared to leave the abode of Mount Kailash.”

The celestial singers and dancers/Gandharva, Kinnaras, Nagas, Siddhas, deities along with their consort traveled in magnificent celestial vehicles on skyway to the palace of Daksha Prajapathi, except Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva, all the deities with their beautifully dressed consorts in finest ornaments and attire departed in marvelous vehicles on the skyway caught the attention of Devi Sati. All those celestial singers were singing melodiously to the tune of divine musical instruments reverberated in the sky disrupted the attention of Sages and Rishis who were immersed in meditation. Devi Sati was curious to know about the festivities, Lord Shambhu explained to her the reason for the auspicious sounds in the atmosphere. Devi Sati was extremely delighted to hear about the grand Yaga going to be held at her father’s palace and she had an inclination to visit her parents and spend some time with them during the auspicious occasion, if Lord Shambhu permits. Devi Sati was already tormented by the solitude for several years, she kept quiet for some time, and began to speak enthusiastically, regaining all those lost charm and affection.”

Chapter – 59– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Eighty Thousand Years of Akhanda Samadhi of Lord Shiva – Dhaksha was elected as chief of Prajapathis

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks, “Devi Sati sincerely appealed to Lord Sri Ramachandra, “Oh! Samadharshi/impartial Lord, kindly help me to get rid of this body of Dhaksha Kanya, and protect me from this unbearable grief of separation from Lord Mahadeva.” The days in solitude spent in the abode of Kailasha were extremely painful for Devi Sati, in this way, eighty thousand years were passed, Lord Shiva who spent all these years in a transcendental state, leaving Devi Sati in utter desolation. Finally, the Supreme Lord got awaken from the deep meditation, reciting Sri Ramanama. Devi Sati listened to the utterance of Ramanama, rushed on her feet to meet Lord Mahadeva, and reverentially prostrated before him and stood before him with folded hands. Lord Shambhu instructed Devi Sati to be seated opposite to him, like any other disciple, and began to describe marvelous legends of Lord Sri Hari. In the meantime, Lord Bhrama designated Dhakshaprajapathi as the most eligible to perform the duties as the chief of Prajapathi made him immensely happy. There is no creature in the whole Universe free from Shadguna/jealousy, pride, ego, anger, lust, and desire, the new status as the chief of Prajapathi got into his head, Dhaksha became so arrogant.”

Chapter – 58– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Devi Sati’s pleas to get rid of the body as Dhaksha Kanya to Lord of Raghu

Lord Mahadeva immersed in deep meditation for several thousands of years and Devi Sati spend all those years in utter desolation in Mount Kailash, no one was known what was happening to her, she was grieving over her mistake committed to pushing the compassionate Lord Shambhu in utter grief, she felt days were like Yugas, sunk in deep sorrow. The wound in her heart remained all-new, without knowing how could she get over from the unfathomable ocean of grief. The repeated thoughts made her more susceptible “I have misbehaved to my Lord, I did not trust him and suspected the Sacchidhanandhaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam incarnated as Lord Rama to save the Earth, I have reaped the fruits of my sins, hence I deserved to be isolated. Oh! Lord of Raghu, is not that unfair for me to live after separated from that compassionate Lord Shambhu. I do not deserve to live without my Lord Shambhu, kindly save me from this miserable life.” The grief of Devi Sati was beyond description, she contemplated upon Lord Sri Rama and prayed with folded hands “Oh! Prabho, Lord of Raghu, the Veda, and the scriptures eulogize you as Dheenadhayala, Bhakthavathsala,/Lord of distressed Jeeva, you are the remover of grief and sufferings of worldly existence. Oh! Prabho, kindly shower your compassionate grace upon me, so that I can get rid of this body, with which I have forced to commit a grave sin. If I have true devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Shankara by word, mind, and deeds, kindly protect me from the unbearable grief and get rid of this body.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Bala Kanda – Devi Sati’s grief & Lord Mahadeva’s Tapasya/Akhanda Samadhi

Chapter – 57– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala Kanda – Devi Sati’s grief & Lord Mahadeva’s Tapasya

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Devi Sati understood that the compassionate Lord Shambhu have understood all that happened in the forest, she felt terribly remorseful for hiding the truth from Lord Shiva, and regretted being mischievous, accepted that the women are flickering and ignorant by nature. Generally, the trust and love shared with the married couple is like the milk added with the water in it, can be separated although it’s not visible, but definitely, it would spoil the real taste of the milk. Devi Sati become inconsolable thinking of her grave sin committed on Lord Shambhu, and her grief was beyond description. Devi Sati remembered the kindness of the supreme Lord Mahadeva who is the ocean of mercy did not utter a single world or criticized openly or hurt her for the mistake committed. Devi Sati could sense that Lord Mahadeva has abandoned her heartily as his consort, that put her in a deep sense of grief. The excessive guilt and shame did not let her speak or argue with him, all that agonies mounted in heart resembled blazing fire torn apart her peace. Lord Shiva could make out the unbearable grief of Devi Sati, he sincerely wanted to alleviate her sorrow and get rid of the mounting grief, and divert her mind from constant anxiousness, hence he began to narrate beautiful stories from various scriptures so that it could wave off her grief. Thus, the couple reached Mount Kailash, Lord Mahadeva remembered his vow, took a seat on Padmasana posture under the Banyan tree, contemplating upon the supreme Bhramam immersed in a transcendental state for several years.”
