Chapter
– 82– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Dhasharatha’s conversation with
Sumanthra
King Dhasharatha spoke in a soft tone “Oh!
Sumanthra, the two princes are too steadfast, and Devi Janaki is too young and delicate,
hence take them in your chariot, show them the beautiful woods, and bring them
back in three or four days. I am certain that the two princes are unwavering,
firm-minded, true to their promises, they may refuse to return to Ayodhya, you
have to approach them with wise words with folded hands and request them to allow
Devi Sita to return to the palace. Oh! Sumanthra, whenever Devi Sita gets
alarmed listening to the sounds of wild animals, or at the sight of dreadful
creatures, takes the opportunity to advise her and repeat my words to her “Oh!
Devi Sita, your parents have already sent messages to you, they have advised returning home, and choose to be either in the Kingdom of Ayodhya or the City of
Mithila, as you please. The forest is not an appropriate place to live in, if
you return to your husband’s palace it would be a great help for your elderly
father and mothers-in-law. Otherwise, your father-in-law may meet terrible
death at the pain of separation from all of you.” Immediately, the King lost
his consciousness, wailing “Bring home Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita. I want to
see them all.”
