Ayodhya Kanda– The heated conversation between Bharatha and Devi Kaikeyi
Bharatha after listening to the exile of
Rama, Devi Sita to the forest from Devi Kaikeyi, for a moment, he forgot the
grief inflicted by the demise of his father, instantly he realized that he is responsible
for all the disaster taken place in Ayodhya, and he is the root cause for all
the evils. Devi Kaikeyi understood the distress of Bharatha, spoken words to
comfort her son was more like the salt added to the wounds “Oh! Dear son, you
are the King of Ayodhya, it is not the time for mourning. Your father has
achieved the merit of his righteousness after death by achieving the abode of
Lord Indra, while he was alive, he had enjoyed all the stately pleasures, in
the way, while he was alive, he has achieved great fame, achieved the
fruitfulness of human life, and afterlife he has achieved the celestial abode.
Oh! Son, stop mourning over the death and happenings in Ayodhya, rule the
Kingdom wisely, by taking good control over the safety and security of the
Kingdom.” Bharatha felt extremely painful listening to the words of Devi
Kaikeyi, it was like the blazing charcoal poured on the body. Bharatha shed
tears in grief, and relieved a deep sigh, and cried out “Oh! Wicked woman, you
have brought complete ruin to our family. If you have deep malice in your
heart, why didn’t you kill me at birth? Oh! Sinful woman, you have ruined a
tree to keep a leaf alive, you have drained the pond to nurture a fish.”
