Chapter – 42– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sundara Kanda– Ravana orders to throw out Vibheeshana and the elderly minister Malyavan from the assembly

Vibheeshana spoke fervently “Oh! Ravana, I shall repeatedly prostrate before you, kindly leave your arrogance and pride, and worship Lord of Kosala. Our grandfather Sage Pulasthya has sent this message to you through one of his disciples. Oh! Dear brother, make use of this auspicious opportunity.” Ravana had a wise and elderly minister named Malyavan who was immensely delighted to hear the pious words of Vibheeshana. Malyavan spoke “Oh! Prabho, your elder brother is an ornament of wisdom, kindly follow the words of Vibheeshana that would bring all the auspiciousness to you.” Ravana shrieked in rage “These two fools are praising my enemy in my own assembly, is there anyone to throw them out of my sight?” The elderly minister Malyavan felt humiliated, immediately went out of the assembly. Vibheeshana continued to pray before Ravana with folded hands “Oh! Dear brother, the Puranas and Veda highly emphasize that goodness and evilness exist in all the Jeeva, wisdom brings prosperity and welfare, and immoral deeds bring constant suffering and grief. Oh! Brother, at this moment, you are dominated by evilness, hence you consider enemies as friends, and vice versa. I shall tell you the truth, Devi Sita represents Kalarathri/darkest hours of the night, your fondness for Devi Sita would bring the destruction of an entire demon clan.”

Chapter – 40– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sundara Kanda– Vibheehana’s advice to Ravana

The ministers spoke “Oh! Prabho, as long as a minister, preceptor, and physician speak pleasant words, it would remove the trepidations, ignorance, and fear of illnesses and death.” It was a grave situation before Ravana, but the ministers were praised his might and overlooked the upcoming danger. Vibheeshana who has thoroughly sensed the situation bowed before Ravana and prostrated at his feet. Vibheeshana began to speak “Oh! Lord, you have asked the opinion of ministers, hence I take the opportunity to express my views, Oh! Brother, whoever seeks welfare, fame, wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune, while living on the Earth and afterlife should not set their eyes on a stranger’s wife, like the moon on the fourth night of Lunar month. Oh! Prabho, whoever hostile to living beings, even if he is the Lord of fourteen spheres would meet destruction. No one will speak good about a person, even though he is an ocean of virtues and brilliant, has a little bit of greed in him.”

Prabho, kindly leave your stubbornness, utilize some safety measures before the Ramabana devour the frog-like demons.” Ravana who is arrogant and foolish by nature gave out a deafening laugh and spoke sarcastically “Oh! Devi, it is true that women are timid by nature, they are weak and get anxious even on the auspicious occasion. If the host of Vanaras enter in the city would become the feast for the demons, the guardian of fourteen spheres gets frightened of my valor, how ridiculous is that my wife is anxious about my enemies?” Ravana embraced Devi Mandodhari affectionately and left to the Assembly Hall. Mandodhari felt troubled at heart and thought that the fate of her beloved Lord has turned against him. As soon as Ravana was taken a seat on the majestic throne, the news has arrived from his emissaries that the enemies have reached on the other side of the ocean. Ravana sought the opinion of illustrious Ministers who were laughed out and spoke “Oh! Prabho, you need not worry at all, you have skillfully conquered all the deities and demons, hence do not get anxious about the humans and Vanaras who are naturally weak compared to us.”
