Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Uththara Kanda –Sage Kakabhusundi describes his previous birth to Garuda

Chapter - 105 - Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj –Sage Kakabhusundi describes his previous birth to Garuda

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Byalari, the Maya of the Mayapathi represent good and evil, hence the Jeeva cannot protect themselves from evil without the worship of Lord Sri Hari, leaving the impurities such as lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, arrogance, ignorance, anger, etc. Oh! Garuda, In the Kali era I have taken birth in the sacred city of Ayodhya and lived for many years until the terrible famine engulfed the Kingdom, I had to abandon the city of Ayodhya for my survival. Oh! Uragari, I have settled in Ujjain, I found that place is miserable with full of the penniless, distressed, desolate,  and lowly clan of people. I have spent some time in this place, earned money, and started to worship Lord Shambhu. There was a twice-born/Bhramin, pious, learned, virtuous worshiped Lord Shambhu according to Vedic rite, he is a fervent devotee of Lord Shambhu and had a devotion to Lord Sri Hari as well. I served this Bhramin so long selflessly, he was so kind and loving to me, he taught me the rites performed to please Lord Shambhu, imparted the greatest of knowledge considering me as his own son. I used to visit the shrine of Lord Shambhu, and practice the Manthraupadhesha/the highly powerful secret verses to please the Lord for my own personal benefits.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Uththara Kanda –The characteristics of the four Yuga/Kritha, Thretha, Dwapara, and Kali Yuga can be experienced in one's own heart

Chapter - 104 - Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj –The characteristics of the four Yuga/Kritha, Thretha, Dwapara, and Kali Yuga can be experienced in one's own heart

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, there is no Yuga highly meritorious as the Kali Yuga, there mere recitation of sacred names of Lord, singing in praise of the Lord would remove the sufferings and grief of worldly existence, eventually, it would liberate the Jeeva from the Garbhavasadhukham/repeated births. Dharma has four pillars, and one among them is Charity, hence the performance of charity brings an abundance of piousness in the Kali era. Oh! Garuda, it is the Maya of the Mayapathi that influences the Jeeva to experience the characteristics of four Yugas in one’s own heart on a regular basis. The Sathvik nature in the Jeeva resembles the Sathya Yuga, the qualities of selflessness, innocence, virtues, honesty, sense of oneness in all, spiritual insight, etc. were predominant in the Kritha Yuga. The abundance of Sathvik nature with a tinge of Rajasik nature such as passion, dedication, and enjoyment are the characteristics of Thretha Yuga. The abundance of Rajasik nature along with the Thamasik and a bit of Sathvik nature represents the Dwapara Yuga, the Jeeva swelled with the pride, jealousy, lust, desire, ignorance, and arrogance, and a little bit of selflessness and fear, anxiousness and joy resemble the characteristics of Dwapara Yuga. The abundance of Thamasik nature, selfishness, deceitfulness, wickedness, lust, desire, ego, jealousy, anger, pride, ignorance, arrogance, etc. represent the Kali Yuga, the Jeeva drenched in worldly matters, overpowered by the impurities of mind represent Kali era. Hence, the wise and noble souls would choose the righteous path, get rid of impurities and sufferings of worldly existence, forsake the Rajasik and Thamasik nature by practice of devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Khagaraya/Garuda, the ‘Time’ won’t take control of the Jeeva who is devoted at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra, like the tricks of the Master of magician won’t surprise his disciple, while the whole crowd watches it in awe.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Uththara Kanda – The commendable deeds in the Kali era

Chapter - 103 - Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj –The commendable deeds in the Kali era

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Byalari/enemy of serpent, the Kali era would be the storehouse of impurities such as Kama/lust, Krodha/anger, Lobha/greed, Moha/desire, Madha/desire, Mathshcharya/ignorance, Ahamkara/arrogance, Mamakara/pride, etc. Although it has some marvelous merits too, the Jeeva can get rid of sufferings of worldly existence, and liberation from the repeated births/Garbhavasa Dhukham, easily without much austerities and penance. Oh! Garuda, the Jeeva can achieve the state of liberation from repeated cycles of birth at ease, compared to the Sathyayuga/Kritha, Threthayuga, and Dwaparayuga which is well known for Tapasya, the performance of fire sacrifices, and worship of deities respectively. In the Kali era, Jeeva could achieve the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari easily with the practice of pure love and devotion, and the utterance of his sacred names. Oh! Khagapathi, in Sathyayuga the Jeeva were extremely intelligent and possessed mystic skills, hence they had adopted meditation and contemplation as the tool to achieve the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. In the Thretha Yuga, people engaged in fire sacrifices to please the deities, thereby achieved liberation from the repeated cycles of births. In the Dwaparayuga, people conducted the worship of Lord Sri Ramachandra and achieved the fruitfulness of their lives. In the Kali era, the Jeeva could easily attain the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari by singing in praise of his glories and reciting his sacred names. Oh! Garuda, in the Kaliyuga, the intelligence and life span of the people would be considerably low, they won’t be able to conduct Thapasya, austerities, vows, etc. due to lack of concentration, or they can’t perform Yaga, Yagna, etc. due to lack of purity of ingredients used for the Yaga, absence of purity of place and person, hence mere uttering the names of Lord Sri Hari would bring fruitfulness in their lives. Oh! Garuda, in the Kali era whoever recites or listens to the glories of Lord Sri Ramachandra with pure love and devotion, would easily cross the unfathomable ocean of worldly existence and repeated births as well. The recitation of scriptures and utterance of sacred names of Lord Sri Ramachandra are enough to protect the Jeeva from Samsarasagara and Garbhavasadhukham, another commendable virtue of the Kali era is the noble deed by word, mind, and deed are highly admirable, and the sins committed by mind/Manasika Papa won’t bring evil effects on the Jeeva.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Uththara Kanda – The evil influence of the Kali era in the life of Jeeva

Chapter - 102 - Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – The evil influence of the Kali era in the life of Jeeva

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Khagesa, the Kali era would be dishonorable, and famous for all the wrong reasons, there would be hypocrisy, wickedness, pride, malpractices, perversity, malice, infatuation, arrogance, etc. in the whole Universe. Jeeva would take up Japa, Thapa, performance of fire sacrifices, austerities, charity, Shamadhamadhi, vows, rites, etc. to accomplish personal benefits. There would be Athivrishti /heavy rainfall and Anavrishti/lack of rains and makes life miserable on the Earth, hence the cultivation, farming, agriculture of food grains would face terrible consequences, which leads to starvation. Women would abandon ornaments and Mangaladhravya, just adopt clothe to cover their nakedness, and will have an uncontrollable appetite. The greed to amass wealth would be overwhelming, and their attachment on worldly matters, possession, richness, wealth, money, fame, wife, children, relatives, and companion would go beyond measure, hence the sufferings and grief would be unimaginable. The Jeeva would take great pleasure in worldly matters, dull-witted will have no kindness or compassion,  constantly hurl themselves to various ailments, and find no peace, they would be swollen with pride and jealousy. The life span of the Jeeva would be very short, but their pride and arrogance would have no limits as if they are going to survive till the end of the Pralaya/deluge. The Kali era would drive the Jeeva insane, men will not have respect for mother, daughter, sister, wife, etc. there will not be contentment or serenity. All classes of men would go begging without shame, adopt harsh and abusive language on each other, there won’t be any sense of ‘Oneness-in-all’ or equality. Jeeva would be besieged by sorrow and bereavement, as a result, there won’t be Varnna or Ashrama Dharma. The austerities, performance of religious and spiritual rites, vows, Shamadhamadhi would disappear, while the wickedness, arrogance, ignorance grow to a large extent. The men and women would be immersed in taking care of their physique and beauty, there won’t be no respect or honor among the people for each other.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Uththara Kanda – The evilness of the Kali era

Chapter - 101 - Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj –The evilness of the Kali era

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, In the Kali era the people will not follow Varnna or Ashramadharma, thereby the marriage between the people of different faith and beliefs create confusion in the performance of rites, the Jeeva constantly suffer from various illness, grief, sorrow, troubles, and utter desolation. The Jeeva drenched in illusion keep themselves away from the worship of Lord Sri Hari, and spiritual and religious practices, Shamadhadhi, austerities, does not follow the path approved by Veda and scriptures, instead, they would choose to create their own beliefs and disciplines. The Jeeva drenched in worldly matters, indulges in sensual pleasure, constructs luxurious homes, and adopts sophisticated lifestyles, eventually forget the meaning of dispassion/Vairagya. The Sannyasins/ascetics would be rich and the Grihastha would go penniless so there would be no spiritual or religious rites in the families. Oh! Garuda, the sarcasm of the Kali era cannot be described in words. Men abandon virtuous and devoted wives and bring maidservants as wives. Sons will not respect or take care of his parents once he gets married, he dances to the tune of the in-law’s family and considers his own parents and siblings as hostile. The rulers will not follow righteousness or truthfulness, indulge in various sins, will not perform any auspicious deeds, they would turn out to be manipulative, impose heavy punishment on the innocent, and exploit them. The wealthy people would be considered as noble, the Bhramin will have Janeau/sacred thread as a symbol, and ascetic is known for wandering naked. In the Kali era person who have no knowledge of Veda and the Scriptures would be known as the devotee of Lord Sri Hari, there would be a number of poets without real poetic skills. There will be countless to criticize and disgrace others’ virtues, but there would be fewer people who are virtuous. Oh! Garuda, Kali era would bring the frequent suffering from famine, epidemic, natural calamities, and people would die without a meal.”

Chapter - 100 - Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj –Sage Kakabhusundi describes the evilness of the Kali era

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, in the Kali era the women and men speak more about Bhramagyana/knowledge of supreme Bhramam reside as a soul in the Jeeva, but they would engage in all immoral deeds like Bhramahathya/killing Bhraman, cow and even the spiritual preceptor to accomplish their personal gain. Shudhra engages heated debates with the twice-born, and try to prove themselves superior to the Brahmans, question the twice-born about their knowledge in Veda and scriptures, and try to disgrace them in all possible ways. People take great pleasure in the company of other’s wives and consider themselves as clever, steeped into worldly matters, attached to possession, wife, children, wealth, fame, richness, money, etc. portrait themselves as Bhramajjyani/consider themselves as absolute Bhramam, they would bring destruction to themselves as well as the noble souls who follows the path of virtues. The Jeeva who find fault in the Veda and scriptures would hurl to hell and live in the entire Kalpa in the hellish torture. The people from the lowest clan, potters, Kiratha, Kola, Bhila, sellers of spirituous substance and oil would shave their head and embrace Sanyasa, after the death of their partner and loss of wealth, these lowest clan of people embraced Sanyasa would be worshiped by twice-born, thereby bring destruction to all. In the Kali era, the Brahmins would be the least knowledgeable of Veda and scriptures, they remain uneducated, ignorant, unskilled, they would marry women from the lower clans of ill character. The Shudras take up the study of Veda, and scriptures, practice Japa and Thapa austerities, etc. and they give lectures on the sacred scriptures seated on the revered Dias of Vyasa/Vyasaghaddhi.  The people would follow austerities and conduct as per their own choices, Oh! Garuda, the atrocities in the Kali era would be countless, cannot be described in words.”

Chapter -99 – Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Uththara Kanda –Sage Kakabhusundi describes the evilness of the Kali era

Sage Kakabhusundi speaks “Oh! Garuda, In the Kali era people attired in an inauspicious garment, adorned in unique ornaments, eat whatever get into their hands, consider themselves as a perfect ascetic, and they would be worshiped by all. The most cunning and wicked people get respect in society and the dull-witted inconsiderate people who blabber by word, deed, and thought portray themselves as poets. Men would remain under the control of women, and dance like monkeys in the hands of trainers. The Shudras portraits themselves as superior in knowledge, consider themselves superior to Bhramin, adopt Janeau/sacred thread, Shikha, and attire, they would accept any type of gifts by sharing false knowledge. The unfortunate Jeeva takes great pleasure in the material things, swollen with pride, will have no faith in scriptures, Veda, deities, or Bhramins, or Santh, Mahathma. The unfortunate wife would abandon her virtuous and handsome husband and take shelter in strangers in the name of love. The Suhasini/wife whose husband alive would abandon jewels and Mangaladhravya, the widow/Amangali dress up herself as most fashionable would appear in public. The preceptor and disciple would behave like a blind and deaf, whatever advised by the preceptor would fall in the deaf ears of the disciple. Oh! Garuda, The preceptor who is attired in saffron robes aims to milk money from his disciple and fails to remove their grief by imparting spiritual knowledge/Paramarththa Thaththva would fall into terrible hell. Oh! Khagapathi, the parents in Kali Yuga teach their children how to amass wealth and fill their belly, they won’t impart the truthfulness and righteousness for their spiritual benefit.”
