Chapter – 248– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Vashishta eulogizes the real nature of Supreme Bhramam personified as Rama

Bharatha went to meet Sage Vashishta, prostrated before him, and took a seat after obtaining permission from him. There was a large member of the assembly, councilors, ministers, Bhramins, and prominent people of Ayodhya already seated before the Sage. The illustrious Sage Vashishta began to speak “Oh! Noble souls, the people of Ayodhya, prominent members of the assembly, listen to me carefully, Bharatha is wise, righteous, and virtuous, he is the delight of the solar race, and Rama is the heir to the throne, King of Ayodhya, the righteousness personified, he is the Lord of Lords. Rama is true to his words, he is the ideal Purusha who is eulogized by Veda and scriptures, sincerely follows the moral values, he is the source of auspiciousness and welfare to the world. He is obedient to his preceptors and parents; he is the destroyer of wicked and most favorable to deities and noble souls. Rama is the essence of virtues, discipline, truth, compassion, love, and piousness. The supreme Bhramam personified as Rama is the essence of Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, Surya, Chandra, Dhikdhevathas,  and inseparable from his female counterpart Maya, he resides as a soul in the Jeeva, he represents Karma/deeds, Time, Adhishesha, rulers of Earth, he is the essence of Yoga and fruitful results of Yoga, he is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, he is Sarbagya eulogized by Veda and scriptures, he is the supreme authority.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The anxiousness of Bharatha

Chapter – 247– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The anxiousness of Bharatha

Bharatha had no sleep in the night or appetite in the day, he was extremely worried like the fish in the muddy water gets anxious about the paucity of water. Bharatha was uneasy about “how to perform the coronation ceremony of Rama, the wickedness of my mother brought miseries and grief to everyone, like the fully-grown paddy field destroyed by the flies, I was helpless to do anything at that moment, I did not make an effort to protect the fully-grown paddy field. My beloved brother Rama is obedient, definitely follows the command of our preceptor, that too not sure, if the preceptor asks for Rama to return to Ayodhya, then only we will come to know about it. The Lord of Raghu's will not ignore the requests of his beloved mother, but will Devi Kausalya ask for it? Will she insist Rama return to Ayodhya? I feel worthless, I have considered as the part of the conspiracy of my evil mother, my fate has turned against me, If I insist Rama to return to Ayodhya for my sake and thereby break his promise to our father, that would be a grievous sin. As a servant of My Lord Rama, it would be more punishable sin than elevating the Mount Kailash, the supreme abode of Lord of Lords Lord Mahadeva.” Bharatha could not find an answer for his qualms, thus the whole night was spent in assumptions. At the early hours of daybreak, Bharatha took a dip in the river Payaswini and prostrated before Lord Rama, while he was prepared to take a seat beside Rama, there was a call from the preceptor for Bharatha.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Devi Kaikeyi regrets her wickedness to Rama, Lakshman and Devi Sita

Chapter – 246– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Kaikeyi regrets her wickedness to Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita

The people of Ayodhya praised the fortune of forest dwellers, rejoiced their sweet accent, humility, polite manners, and pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Rama and Sita, the men and women belittled watching their devotion at the lotus feet of Rama. Sage Tulsidas says it was the grace of the Supreme Lord Rama, the forest dwellers have achieved intense devotion, even the rod of iron would float with the grace of that supreme Bhramam. The people of Ayodhya enjoyed journeying to every quarter of the forest, the frogs and peacocks of the wood energetically croaked and danced after the first shower of the season. The people of Ayodhya were immersed in love and devotion, hence the days passed were seemed moments to them. Devi Sita assumed several forms and relentlessly engaged in the service of her mother’s-in- law, no one knew but Rama knows it all. Jagathjanani Paramba Bhagavathi Devi Sita is an inseparable part of that Lord Rama observed the mysteries performed by his consort, thus Devi Sita won over the hearts of all with her sincere service, and they have blessed her abundantly in return. Devi Kaikeyi perceived the two brothers and Devi Sita’s love and affection, good nature, and felt embarrassed and repented for her evilness to them. Devi Kaikeyi became desperate watching the nobleness of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita sought shelter from Mother Earth and Lord of Death, but none was favorable to her. The Vedas and scriptures, Sages and Rishis highly spoke that whoever hostile to Lord Rama won’t find a shelter place even in the hell. There was one qualm remind in the hearts of everyone “Will Rama returns to Ayodhya or not?”

Chapter – 245– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The pure love and devotion of forest dwellers at the lotus feet of Rama

The Kiratha spoke “Oh! Mahathma, kindly accept the fruits, vegetables, shoots, offered with great affection and shower your compassionate grace upon us. Oh! Noble souls, you have come to visit the woods, you are most welcome guests of us, kindly let us serve you all at our heart's content, what else we could offer to you? Kindly accept the fruits and spices as a symbol of friendship from Kiratha. Oh! Noble souls, we don’t steal your clothes, or vessels, even though we hunt animals for food, born in the lowly clan, and wicked natured. Our days and night are in pursuit of pleasure and meal, yet we don’t get enough meal to fill our stomach, or we are not used to wearing clothes to cover our body from the harsh climates of chillness and heat. How could we dream to meet the Lord of Raghu, the delighter of the clan, and serve noble souls like you? Ever since we have achieved the great fortune to meet the Lord of Raghu, and serving the lotus feet of the Lord, all our terrible woes and sorrows have disappeared.” The people of Ayodhya praised the fortune of the forest dwellers and were overwhelmed with emotion watching their devotion and love at the lotus feet of Lord Rama.

Chapter – 244– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The beauty of Chitrakoot and the hospitality of the forest dwellers

The rivers, ponds, and streams were packed with the various colors of water lilies, the sounds of the swarm of the buzzing of bees, chirping of birds of various species, and the sounds of various kinds of wild animals roaming free from hostility. The Kola, Bhilla, Kirathas, and forest dwellers prepared bowls and plates out of the leaves and bark of the trees, and filled them with the honey, succulent fruits of various types, and offered to the people of Ayodhya walking all over enjoying the beauty of the woods. The forest dwellers greeted their guests with great respect and handed them variety of fruits, and vegetables detailing its name, taste, quality and the usage to them. The people of Ayodhya offered a fair price for the fruits, vegetables, spices offered were denied by the forest dwellers and requested their guests to take them all as a gift in the name of Lord Rama, and overwhelmed with emotion, they spoke in chorus “The virtuous people respect true love and compassion, you all are noble souls, we are Nishadha, living in the forest, hunting on animals for livelihood and vile natured, it was the blessings of Rama, we have met noble souls like you. The noble souls are like the celestial river Ganga, inaccessible to the desert of Maru, the merciful Lord Rama showered great love and mercy on the Nishadharaja Guha, hence we are duty-bound to serve the kith and kin of our King.”

Chapter – 243– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Vashishta insists Rama allow the people of Ayodhya to enjoy his presence and get relieved from their grief

Sage Vashishta spoke “Oh! Rama, you are the symbol of righteousness and mercy, that was made you speak in such a way, but the people of Ayodhya are grieving for a long time at your separation, let them get relieved from grief and sufferings and enjoy your presence for another couple of days.” Rama felt auspicious windblown on his favor listening to the most appropriate words of the preceptor, they bathed thrice in a day in the holy river Payaswini, the mere sight of this holy river is capable to remove the host of sins. The people assembled took feast on the marvelous appearance of the Lord of Raghu who is the essence of auspiciousness and welfare, prostrated before Rama repeatedly.  They collectively went to see the loveliness of Chitrakoot, but the beauty of wood was not so impressive in the absence of Rama who is the remover of grief and sufferings of the Jeeva. All the crystal-clear watercourses in the hills had the sweetness of nectar, could take away the miseries and grief of the people. The cool and fragrant breeze taken away their exhaustion of the journey soon revitalized their body and mind. The loveliness of the woods, the plants, trees, creepers, of various kinds loaded with alluring flowers of rich fragrance and succulent fruits, the lush green land, beautiful shelter homes on the pathways, was beyond description.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Rama appeals to Sage Vashishta to take his mothers and the people back to Ayodhya

Chapter – 242– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama appeals to Sage Vashishta to take his mothers and the people back to Ayodhya

At the daybreak Raghunandhan performed all those rites instructed by his preceptor, Rama meticulously performed homage to ancestors prescribed in the Veda and scriptures. The supreme Bhramam, blameless, pure, free from afflictions, neither birth nor death, free from changes, performed all those ancestral rites to remove the blemishes. The Supreme Lord whose name ‘Rama’ capable to remove the host of sins, resemble fire to the cotton balls, whose very name is the source of all the auspiciousness, even the celestial river Ganga was consecrated at the touch of his feet, performed the ancestral rite for removing the sins. After two days of homage to ancestors, Rama affectionately spoke to the preceptor “Oh! Mune, all the people of Ayodhya are miserable and tired of a long journey to wood. They are living on fruits, rooted vegetables, and water in the forest. Bharatha, Shathrughna, and all the mothers are extremely dejected, when I see them in a troubled state, I feel every second as Yuga. Therefore, I request you to kindly return with them to Ayodhya, my father attained the abode of deities, and you are the one who could take care of the Kingdom and its subjects. Oh! Prabho, I have spoken too much on this occasion, I have mentioned whatever I have felt in my mind, kindly do what is appropriate at this moment.”
