Chapter – 136– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The beautiful and blessed land of Chithrakoota

The Supreme Lord Ramachandra, who is eulogized by Veda and sacred scriptures, and the illustrious Rishis and Sages undertake extreme penance and austerities to perceive that supreme Bhramam, listened to the kind words of the Kola and Bhila, like a parent listen to their baby talks. Oh! Jeeva,  the pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra only attracts that Scchidhanandhaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam. Rama addressed them with the most affectionate words, they disbursed peacefully bowing their head before the Lord, they abundantly praised the virtues and the kindness of the Lord on all their ways and returned to their homes. Devi Sita and Lakshman pleased the minds and hearts of the hermits, deities, and foresters with their kindness and virtues. Ever since the Lord of Raghu settled in the Mount Chithrakoota, the entire forest has become the source of blessings to all the living and non-living things. The trees and plants loaded with the fruits and flowers, the creepers, shrubs remained fresh and green all the time, the entire forest looked like a heavenly abode as if the plant life in the heavenly abode abandoned the celestial abode and settled in the forest, where the swarm of buzzing honey bees, the cool breeze of rich fragrances multiplied the serenity and the beauty of the atmosphere.

Chapter – 132– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The deities disguised as Kola and Bhila and constructs a beautiful hermitage for Rama at the foothill of Chitrakoot

The illustrious Sage Valmiki described the splendor of Chithrakoota and river Mandakini, to the two princes and Devi Sita, finally, they have received permission from the Sage and left the hermitage.  They have approached the river Mandakini and took a holy dip in the river. Lord of Raghu spoke “Oh! Lakshman, this is an auspicious place to live close to the river Mandakini, make arrangements for our stay in this place.” Lakshman looked at the northern bank of river Payasvini and spoke “The twisting watercourse gives out the appearance of the string and the riverbanks as a bow, the control of mind and sense are its arrows, the sins of Kali era resemble those repositories in the water, and the mount Chitrakoot appears as a huntsman wielded on bow and arrow prepared to conquer enemies.” Rama was delighted to watch the site shown by Lakshman, soon the deities, and the celestial architect proceeded to the place where Lord Rama decided to stay in the Chitrakoot. These deities disguised as Kola and Bhila, and constructed a beautiful hermitage with the leaves, creepers, Bamboo and shrubs, thus they have constructed two pairs of cottages, one is small in size and another one is larger in size.

Chapter – 131– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Maharishi Valmiki instructs Rama to reside in the heart of the devotees who have no desires to fulfill, as his permanent abode - and advice to proceed to the hills of Chithrakoota

Sage Valmiki concludes “Oh! Prabho, lastly the Jeeva who is grown affectionate to you without expecting anything in return, instantly make his heart as your dwelling place.” Lord Rama was highly pleased listening to the compassionate words of illustrious Sage Valmiki, further, the Sage took the two princes to the most beautiful places in the forest, and the Sage continued “Oh! Rama, Lord of the solar race, the hills of Chithrakoota is the most beautiful place where you can live and continue austerities. Its most attractive hill, surrounded by streams and rivers, forest and wild animals and birds. There is a sacred river close to it, which was highly spoken in the scriptures, that was brought on Earth by the consort of Sage Athri as a result of her extreme penances. It is a watercourse that originates from the River Ganga known as Mandakini which destroys all the sins of the worshiper like the evil spirit suppresses the infants. This is one of the sacred lands where Sage Athri and many illustrious Sages and Rishis undertake extreme penances, meditation, perform Yoga and fire sacrifices. Oh! Rama, proceed to the hills of Chithrakoota, and thereby provide the reward to the labor of all those noble souls contemplating and meditating upon that supreme Bhramam, and honor the hills of Chithrakoota.”
