Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Sage Yajjavalkya describes the loveliness of Rama, Devi Sita, and Lakshman walking to the woods

Chapter – 122– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Sage Yajjavalkya describes the loveliness of Rama, Devi Sita, and Lakshman walking to the woods

Sage Yajjavalkya speaks “Oh! Mune, Lord Rama who is the sun to the solar race, spreading joy all over the places proceeded to the woods with Devi Sita and Lakshman/Saumithri. Rama and Lakshman attired in saffron robes walked in such a way, as if the Paramathma walking along with the inseparable Maya, followed by the Jeevathma.  Rama walking on the forefront and Devi Sita thoughtfully following the footprints of Rama, and Lakshman was walking carefully without crossing the footprints of Devi Sita and Lord Rama. As if the Supreme Bhramam followed by his inseparable Maya/Devi Sita, and Lakshman the Jeevathma/soul following that supreme Bhramam and Maya. The beauty of Devi Sita was beyond words, excelled the beauty of Devi Rathi consort of Lord Manmatha, she has shone between the Lord and Vasantharithu, she has shone between Rama and Lakshman, like Devi Rohini between Budha and Chandra. Devi Sita meticulously followed Lord Rama, placing her feet between the footprints of Lord, and Lakshman walked alongside keeping a fair distance on the right of Rama and Devi Sita. How can I describe the affection shared between them? The birds and animals were transported to a state of bliss, watching the pair beautifully walking through the woods.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The villagers praising the splendor of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita

Chapter – 121– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The villagers praising the splendor of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita

The women, children, and elderly people who failed to behold the beauty of Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita were lamented, felt miserable and unfortunate. In this way, wherever Rama visited during his journey to wood, the villagers were greatly attached to the Lord, overwhelmed with pure love and devotion to him. The people who have witnessed Rama crossing their villages rejoiced at the sight of the beautiful princes and Devi Sita, thus Lord Rama who is the moon to the solar race like lilies spread joy across the Earth. Those who have received the piece of information about the exile of Rama from the Kingdom were blamed the King Dhasharatha and the Queen, while others praised the King for their good fortune to have a glimpse of Lord Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita, and they abundantly praised the King for the great reward of their life. The men and women conversed in a most agreeable manner “The parents are truly blessed to achieve Rama and Lakshman as their sons, and the most beautiful princess as a daughter-in-law and the Kingdom of Ayodhya is fortunate to have the handsome princes. The Earth, forest, hills, mountains, rivers, etc. are fortunate to bear their footprints. The villages and villagers are lucky to behold their beauty. The creator must be delightful in creating the dear and near ones to these princes and princess.” Thus, the legend of Rama spread all over the Earth, people rejoiced to speak the virtues and loveliness of the princes and Devi Sita.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The women lamenting over the separation from Rama, Lakshman, and Devi Sita

Chapter – 120– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The women lamenting over the separation from Rama, Lakshman and Devi Sita

The villagers assembled were shed tears in grief, and spoke: “The two charming princes and the young and beautiful princess are too delicate to walk through the rough pathways on the forest, how shall they conduct journey through the impassable roads and mountains in the woods?” They became restless thinking about the danger involved in the woods, shed tears, and grieved like the female Chakravaha birds at the hours of dusk. The women spoke in extreme grief “These two charming princes and princess are too delicate; the Earth may get pained as our hearts while they walk with their red lotus-like soft and supple feet on the harsh pathways. If the Lord of the Universe ordained them to live in the woods, why can’t he spread the pathways of these princes with the flowers of rich fragrance? Oh! Friend, we can pray to that Almighty Lord to give us a boon for the safety and welfare of them, and protect them like eyeballs.” The villagers who did not make it, failed to witness the Lord and behold the beauty of Ram, Lakshman, and Devi Sita, became heartbroken, rushed to the place, and enquired anxiously “Where did they go? How far they would have traveled?” The strong ones flee to the woods to get a glimpse of the Lord returned triumphantly, as they have achieved the liberation from the grief of worldly existence.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The villagers blaming Lord Bhrama for his ordinance on the charming princes and the beautiful princess

Chapter – 119– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The villagers blaming Lord Bhrama for his ordinance on the charming princes and the beautiful princess

The villagers grieved at the fate of the two charming princes Rama and Lakshman and the beautiful princess Devi Sita “Oh! Friends, these two handsome princes, and the gorgeous princess are destined to live like a hermit, attired in a saffron robe, adorned in matted hair locks, and prayer beads, then why the Almighty Lord has created the stunning clothes, gems and precious ornaments, aren’t they pointless? If these two princes have to depend on the fruits and vegetables from the forest, that too available in the particular seasons, then all those nectar-like lavish meals and ingredients created by Almighty Lord isn’t that worthless?” some others cried “These princes are too compassionate and charming, must be born on Earth at their will, cannot be the creation of Lord Bhrama. Honestly, it is impossible to find such a most graceful youths and lovely woman in the fourteen worlds, or in the creation of Lord Bhrama or among the deities described in the Vedas and scriptures. Lord Bhrama must have felt jealous watching the loveliness of these princes and princess, none of his creation would match with the virtues, grace, and beauty of these princes and princess, that is why he has ordained them to live in the woods.” The other villagers exclaimed “We do not know anything, one thing for sure, we are fortunate, achieved the fruitfulness of our eyes. Whoever witnesses these two princes and princess would achieve an abundance of piousness in their lives.”

Chapter – 118– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The villagers lamented on the separation from Rama, Devi Sita and Lakshman

Rama along with Devi Janaki and Lakshman proceeded to the woods after obtaining detailed information of the easiest pathways from the villagers, but the men, women, children, and elderly people were reluctant to leave Rama, followed him to a fair distance was send back by the Lord with the comforting words. The people while returning homes lamented on their fate, and blamed the King and the queen in their heart, they spoke to one another in utter distress “The creator is heartless, difficult to perceive his actions, he tainted the moon causing waning and waxing, wish-fulfilling creepers/Kalpatharu considered as mere creepers, the ocean filled with the salt waters. The creator destined these two charming princes to live in the woods, he has chosen dense forest as an appropriate dwelling place for them, then what’s the necessity to create luxuries and comforts in the world?  He has destined the charming princes to walk on the rough pathways of the forest, then what’s the need for the palanquin and sophisticated vehicles?  He has destined these charming princes to take shelter under the shade of a tree, sleep on the grass and leaves, then what’s the necessity to create fortresses and luxurious chambers? If the Almighty Lord ordained these princes to live in the forest, what’s the use of the creation of stunning palaces of milk-white?”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Rama, Devi Sita and Lakshman prepares to leave the villagers

Chapter – 117– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Rama, Devi Sita, and Lakshman prepares to leave the villagers

The women assembled prostrated at the lotus feet of Devi Sita, and showered blessings “May you enjoy blissful happy married life as long the Earth rests on the head of serpent Adishesha! Oh! Sumukhi, be a chaste and dutiful wife like Devi Parvathi to Lord Shambhu!  Oh! Devi, kindly shower your compassionate grace on us, we earnestly pray with folded hands, while you return through this route, kindly allow us to get a glimpse of you, remember us as your female servants.” Devi Sita was highly pleased with the pure love and devotion of the women assembled, she comforted them with pleasing words like the lilies achieve the freshness from the moonlight. Shortly, Lakshman enquired the villagers about the route to the woods after reading the mind of Lord Rama, the villagers became gloomy and tears welled upon their eyes. Suddenly, their joy has disappeared, like the treasure bestowed was snatched away, soon they regained their courage and were given the details of the easiest pathway to the dense wood.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Devi Sita introduces the women about Rama and Lakshman

Chapter – 116– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Sita introduces the women about Rama and Lakshman

The elderly woman spoke “Oh! Devi, the two princes one in dark cloud complexioned and the other in golden complexioned are extremely charming, they have possessed lustrous faces of the autumn moon, and their beautiful faces resemble the lotus flower, the loveliness of these two charming princes excels the beauty of millions of Kamadeva. Oh! Sumukhi/ beautiful faced one, how do you relate to them?” Devi Sita became shy, turned purple, and smiled at heart. Devi Sita looked at Rama and Lakshman, instantly head hung down looking on the Earth, the bashfulness multiplied the loveliness of her. Devi Sita replied coyly, with the sweet-nectar-like voice that resembled cuckoo “The fair and graceful one is my brother-in-law Lakshman.” Further Devi Sita took hold of the end of her saffron robe and covered half of her moon-like lustrous face, looking at her beloved Lord, with a sidelong glance, and bending eyebrows, beautiful eye resembles the Kanjana bird famous for its rapid movement of eyes, followed by a gesture informed the elderly women that the dark cloud complexioned handsome prince is her beloved Lord. The women were highly delighted to know the details of their guests like the pauper allowed free access to the treasure box.
