Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The twice-born, illustrious members of the assembly, senior female members of the family, and companions meets Devi Kaikeyi

Chapter – 49– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The twice-born, illustrious members of the assembly, senior female members of the family, and companions meets Devi Kaikeyi

The people of Ayodhya began to speak “Bharatha is dear as life to Rama, hence Bharatha cannot be shrewd or he has never shown any interest against Rama, if anyone dreams ill about Bharatha would experience the rain showers as fire, and the nectar as poison.” Some people blamed the creator who offered nectar and served toxic poison in place of the latter. The whole city of Ayodhya was unrest, people were unhappy and miserable, the cheerfulness was disappeared and the shadow of grief overpowered the city. The twice-born, respectable members of the assembly and the elderly women who were close to the queen in the family spoke the true words praising her virtues, those were piercing the heart of Kaikeyi “Oh! Devi, everyone knows that you have a natural bond with Rama, you have mentioned several times that Rama is dear as your life, and Bharatha is not so dear as Rama to you. What happened to your love for Rama, you have decided to send him away from the Kingdom? What was the offense he had committed to exile him? You have never harbored jealousy towards the other Queens, your loving disposition and truthfulness are known all over the world. What was the sin committed by Devi Kausalya? What was the reason for hurling the thunderbolt like the message on the people of Ayodhya?”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The people’s reaction to the idea of Devi Kaikeyi

Chapter – 48– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The people’s reaction to the idea of Devi Kaikeyi

The people of Ayodhya conversed in utter grief “What is that the fire cannot consume? What is that the ocean cannot swallow up? What is that the powerful woman who is misjudged and mispronounced as ‘Abala’/weak, fragile can’t accomplish? What is that the material matter that does not meet ruin or death? The creator ordained the most fortunate thing in our lives was reversed it later.” Some others said “The King is not doing well. He has provided boons to a wicked woman at her request and unknowingly brought disaster to this world. He was ruled by a deceitful woman, hence he has lost wisdom and goodness as well.” Others did not blame the King for his act, they praised the virtues of the King which were equivalent to King Sibi, Sage Dhadhichi , and Harishchandhra. Some people cursed Bharatha as cunning, and others stood motionless, was listening to their companions passively. Some others were flabbergasted, closed their ears, bit their tongue, and shrieked “No. No. It won’t be true. Bharatha is dear as life to Rama. Bharatha can’t be inconsiderate, he is highly devoted to Rama and pure-hearted, if anyone utters ill words about Bharatha would get nullified their merits.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The intellectuals and learned has truly observed the women are mysterious and unimaginable

Chapter – 47– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The intellectuals and learned has truly observed the women are mysterious and unconceivable

The people of Ayodhya were grief-stricken, could not speak, eyes flooded with tears was in a miserable state, as if the enemies have taken control of the beautiful city. They cursed Devi Kaikeyi “all of us were eager to witness the propitious hour of Rama’s coronation as the King of Ayodhya was spitefully destroyed by the deities. The good sense of Devi Kaikeyi has disappeared, that wicked woman set fire to the newly thatched house, she has plucked her eyes with her own hands and desired to taste the poison, leaving the nectar of immortality. Alas! Her evil-mindedness and cruel heart set fire to the beautiful bamboo thatched home like the Raghu's clan. Alas! she was cutting the twig where she was already taken a seat, she has raised the structure of deep sorrow in the middle of joy. Rama was dear as her life, what was that forced her to take the evil step? The intellectuals and nobles are truly observed that the woman’s mind is incomprehensible, bottomless, and full of mystery, unlike the men who are clear and candid, but it is always difficult to understand a woman.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – The people of Ayodhya sunk in deep distress after hearing the orders of Devi Kaikeyi

Chapter – 46– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– The people of Ayodhya sunk in deep distress after hearing the orders of Devi Kaikeyi

Rama spoke affectionate words “Oh! Thatha, kindly do not grieve at this auspicious hour, kindly order me in a good spirit to follow your command.” Rama felt extremely joyful and continued “Oh! Dear father, it is blessed to become a virtuous son who multiplies the pride of a father. The son who considers parents as dear as life receives Dharma, Arththa, Kama, and Moksha/Purusharththa in his life. Oh! Dear father, I shall carry out your command sincerely thereby achieve the fruitfulness of my life, after that I shall come back to you, hence kindly allow me to follow your orders. In the meantime, I shall go and meet mother Kausalya and ask her permission to leave, and I will return to you, shortly I shall proceed to woods with your permission, and blessings.” Rama left the chamber briskly before the King could speak anything, once again the King was overpowered with grief and agony. In a short period of time, the most unpleasant message was spread across the city like the poison from the scorpion rushes through the limbs. The subjects of Ayodhya were besieged with sorrow, even the trees and creepers lost their charm and freshness, it was extremely difficult for the people to believe, they were inconsolable, soon the city of Ayodhya sunk in deep grief.

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – King Dhasharatha prays to Lord Shambhu to stop Rama from leaving to woods

Chapter – 45– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Dhasharatha prays to Lord Shambhu to stop Rama from leaving to woods

King Dhasharatha heartily prayed to Lord Shambhu “Oh! Prabho, you are supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva/Jeevathma, you are the source of the functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa Prana, Karma, Gnanendhriya, hence kindly persuade Rama not to follow my words or withdraw to woods, let him live in the city of Ayodhya for the happiness of all. Oh! Prabho, let the good reputation of mine disappear, let my fortune to achieve the heaven may disappear, let the troubles fall upon me, but do not let Rama disappears from my sight. I can’t bear the separation from Rama.” Lord of Raghu, Rama realized the overflowing affection as well as the grief of his father whose limbs were quivered, lips were dried and words were reluctant to come out. Rama began to speak appropriate words at that right moment to put a halt to Devi Kaikeyi’s harsh words. “Oh! Dear father, I have something important to speak, you may consider them as childishness, no matter kindly forgive me to speak before you. You are grieving on the trifling matter, which was not known to me, I have asked mother Kaikeyi about your worrisome mental and physical health, I was pacified by her with the reason of your troubled health.”

Chapter – 44– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– King Dhasharatha meets Rama at his bedside and regains cheerfulness

King Dhasharatha regained his consciousness, remembered Rama, and changed his position on the bed. Sumanthra informed the King about the presence of Rama and advised him to use appropriate words on this occasion. Soon, the King got himself seated on the bed with the help of Sumanthra, recovered from his exhaustion, opened his eyes, and looked at Rama who prostrated before his father. King overwhelmed with various emotions, tightly embraced Rama, as if the serpent regained its precious gem, he looked at Rama, while watching Rama his eyes were flooded with tears, once again overpowered with the grief, could not utter a word, he repeatedly embraced Rama and kissed on his forehead. King heartily prayed to Lord that Rama should not proceed to the woods. He sincerely prayed to Lord Shambhu “Oh! Ashuthoshi, kindly listen to my prayers, you get easily pleased with your devotees, and you are benevolent, kindly relieve me from the distress.”

Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Sri Tulsidas Maharaj – Ayodhya Kanda – Devi Kausalya speaks pleasantly to Rama

Chapter – 43– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Ayodhya Kanda– Devi Kausalya speaks pleasantly to Rama

The words spoken out by Raghuvara were true and appropriate, yet the evil-minded Devi Kaikeyi was not able to absorb them all, like a leech that sloping on the watery surface. The queen rejoiced at heart to understand the willingness of Rama to leave the Kingdom, immediately she assumed a false affection on her face, and began to speak “ Oh! Rama, I feel the affection to you and Bharatha is the cause for the grief of the King. Oh! Dear son, you are the source of delight to your parents and brothers, should not do anything that makes others unhappy. You are true to your words; you have truly adhered to the words of your parents. I wish you should speak to your father, later it should not bring soreness in your relationship with him. Oh! Rama, your father is righteous and truthful, that was the reason he has achieved you as his son.” The affectionate words rushed out of the mouth of Devi Kaikeyi resembled the sacred river Gaya, on the cursed land of Magdha.  The sweet words adopted by Devi Kaikeyi were sounded pleasant to Rama, like all the watercourses confluence in the sacred river Ganga.
