Chapter – 8– Sri Ramacharitha Manas – Bala
Kanda – The influence of Kala/Time, Karama/deeds, Guna/virtues, and
Swabhava/attributes cause grief and sufferings
The Universe is the place of good and evil,
living and non-living things. The Santh Mahathmas/noble- souls abandon the
impurities, Ahamkara, Mamakara, interest in worldly matters are compared to
Hamsa/Swan, that has the tremendous skill to separate the milk from the water,
hence these Mahatmas always live in supreme bliss. The Kala/Time,
Guna/virtues, Karma/deeds, Swabhava/attributes necessitate the Jeeva to get
shackled in Maya/illusion and ignorance, even the goodness in the Jeeva gets
tarnished by the above-mentioned elements. The Jeeva who have taken shelter at
the lotus feet of Lord Hari, get rid of the impurities of anger, ego, lust,
desire, pride, and jealousy, Ahamkara, Mamakara, interest in worldly matters get
relieved from the sufferings and grief of Samsara. The Jeeva drenched in the
material matters/Prakrithi gets inspired to perform righteous deeds due to the
association with the noble and saintly men, take pride in it, and remain
deceitful as always, and they will have the fate of the demon Kalanemi appeared
as an ascetic before Hanuman at the command of Ravana, while Hanuman was in
search for the medicinal herb to restore the life of Lakshman in the
battlefield. Kalanemi purposefully played
a trick on Hanuman to distract him and create obstacles to his task. The mere
appearance as an ascetic of Kalanemi caught the entire attraction of Hanuman,
ultimately met miserable death in the hands of Hanuman. The demon Ravana who was
disguised as an ascetic appeared before Devi Sita met a terrible death in the
hands of Rama on the battlefield and the demon Rahu who disguised as a deity
while serving the nectar of immortality got his head severed by Lord Vishnu,
all these demons presented as noble with their uncanny appearance, met
disastrous end. The virtuous were the Jambavan who was a mighty bear in the army
of Sugriva, famous for his bravery and Hanuman/Kapeeshwara who is the Lord of
Vanaras were highly honored and praised for their generosity and fearlessness.
Therefore, the Veda and scriptures emphasize the association of the Sadhu
Santh, Mahathma who have abandoned the Samsara, interest in worldly matters,
Ahamkara, Mamakara, and impurities of the mind as a Trina/grass, would inspire
the Jeeva to perform austerities, vow, and strictly follow truthfulness,
kindness, compassion, humanity, celibacy, non-violence, hygiene/mental as well
as physical etc. The Jeeva who have achieved the purity of mind won’t get
malignant even if they get stuck in the middle of the wicked, and they would
remain unblemished, like the dust particle raised on the atmosphere can’t taint
the sky. The parrot nurtured in the houses of virtuous would mimic the sacred
name of Lord Rama and the unfortunate ones are taken care by the wicked keep mimic
abuses. The fire burns all those in
contact with it, turn to coal that can be utilized as an ink to write
scriptures and sacred texts. The essential elements such as water, air, and fire
immensely contribute to flourishing life on the Earth.
